~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

A new telenovela premieres in primetime next Monday on Univision.  Starring crossover actor Cristian de la Fuente (Dancing with the Stars, In Plain Sight) and Mexican actress Silvia Navarro, Amor Bravio (Fierce Love) debuts August 13 at 10p and will air Monday-Friday in this time slot.  Amor Bravio is a love story about revenge and betrayal centering on Daniel Diaz (de la Fuente) who is unjustly accused of something he didn’t do.  He’ll stop at nothing to clear his name until he meets beautiful veterinarian Camila Monterde (Navarro) whose life was shattered by a tragic accident that killed her fiancé.

NBC News and TV One are teaming to offer coverage of the 2012 presidential election with a unique perspective aimed at the African American audience.  The coverage will encompass the final night of both the Republican National Convention (RNC) and the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in addition to the night of the presidential election.  The three nights of coverage will be branded as TV One: One Vote Matters.  This partnership marks the first time the two organizations are working together as well as TV One presenting national convention coverage.  The announcement was made jointly by NBC News President Steve Capus and TV One President/CEO Wonya Lucas.  TV One will air a four-hour block of coverage on the final night of the RNC on August 30 starting at 8p and for the DNC on September 6 beginning at 8p.  NBC News’ Craig Melvin will anchor all three evenings of coverage from NBC’s Washington, D.C. studios and TV One’s Washington Watch host Roland Martin will also offer further coverage and contribute segments and analysis.  TV One’s 2012 presidential election night coverage will be live on November 6 beginning at 7p and will include the final victory speech of the newly-elected President of the United States.

Ramping up its presidential election reporting plans, Current TV will have Vice President Al Gore, who is also the network’s co-founder, lead its coverage of the Republican National Convention (RNC) beginning August 27 from 7p to 11p over four nights as well as coverage of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) beginning September 4 from 7p to 11p and concluding on September 6.  Joining Vice President Gore for Current TV will be former Michigan Governor and The War Room host, Jennifer Granholm, former New York Governor and Viewpoint host, Eliot Spitzer and host of The Young Turks, Cenk Uygur.  California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom will also join the panel for the RNC coverage.  Current TV’s convention headquarters is based in New York with David Shuster and Michael Shure reporting from both convention sites.  Current TV hosts Joy Behar and John Fugelsang will both contribute.

Yesterday, Liberty Media revealed its aim to spin off Starz LLC into a separate publicly-traded company.  Liberty Media executives indicated the move will give investors “a better view of Starz’ operations while creating added liquidity at Liberty Media.” Starz is currently at 20.7 million subscribers while Encore has 34.2 million subscribers at the end of second quarter.  Furthermore, Starz’ revenue remains stable at $403 million for second quarter, based on Liberty Media’s earnings statement. The spinoff of Starz will not require a stockholder vote and is expected to happen later this year.

Animal Planet’s new six-episode series, Hell on the Border, follows an elite force from the Nogales, Arizona police department who use their K-9 unit to help protect their town and border.  The police officers and their canines must battle drug cartels and human traffickers and more.  Hell on the Border launches with a special premiere episode on August 19 at 11p following Call of the Wildman and then moves to its regular time period of Fridays at 10p on August 24.  Hoff Productions produces the series for Animal Planet.

A fourth season of Run My Renovation debuts on DIY Network August 16 at 9p.  With hosts Joanie Dodds and John DeSilvia, the series showcases homeowners who allow a room in their house to be completely transformed using directions from online fans who vote on everything from the flooring to lighting fixtures.  When the votes are tallied, Joanie and John, with help from the homeowners have to pull all the components together to make over the room.  RIVR Media produces the series for DIY Network.

SCIENCE reported it tallied 1.3 million unique viewers Monday night at 10p for its coverage of the Mars Landing 2012: The New Search for Life, a co-production between SCIENCE and Discovery Canada.

ION Television picked up the off-net rights to all ten seasons of Law & Order: Criminal Intent from NBCUniversal Cable and Media Distribution.  ION will add the crime series, which originally ran on NBC for six seasons and concluded on USA Network in 2011, to its Positively Entertainment lineup.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

FX Productions forged an agreement with The Hunger Games’ producer Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson and their production company, Color Force for an exclusive first-look production deal with FXP for cable television programming.  Color Force will develop series from other writers/producers in addition to securing rights to published material that can be adapted into television series.  Jacobson and Simpson under their Color Force banner also produced the film Diary of a Wimpy Kid and its sequel, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules.  A third firm, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days is being released this month.

Fox Television Studios made an overall deal with Academy Award-winning director and producer Robert Zemeckis and producing partner Jack Rapke to develop and produce original content for cable television.

Lou Reda Productions and former heavyweight champ, Larry Holmes are working together on the development of an unscripted series starring Holmes who as an entrepreneur, wishes to expand his restaurant, gym and entertainment empire.  Cynopsis Media spoke with Marc Reda about the future series  with the working title What’s Up Holmes, and Reda said production has begun with the promotional trailer now shot and edited.  He went on to say the timeframe for the finished show is dependent on which network picks it up and currently networks are being pitched.  Reda further said his company is aiming at general entertainment networks for the show though no deals have been confirmed. “We’re very excited to be working with Larry,” said Reda, the VP/Development at Lou Reda Productions.  “Having grown up in the same town as him we know what a great guy and character he is, and we want America to fall in love with him.”

The third season of IFC’s series Portlandia is currently in production and will return on the network in January 2013.  For a sneak peek into the new season which pertains to the Olympics, visit the show’s website at: http://www.ifc.com/portlandia/videos/portlandia-no-olympics.

Former 24 actress, Shohreh Aghdashloo is joining FOX’s new series The Mob Doctor, reports EW.  Aghdashloo will play the recurring role of Dr. Jayana Baylor in the drama that premieres September 17 and is headlined by Jordana Spiro as a young surgeon working to pay off her debt to Chicago mobsters.

Ben Falcone, co-star of Bridesmaids along with his wife-actress, Melissa McCarthy, was tapped to star in TV Land’s comedy pilot, I’m Not Dead Yet.  The single-camera comedy is about Sandy Lazarus (Falcone), a guy who discovers he has a rare heart condition that could cause him to die at any moment which prompts him to start speaking his mind and living life to the utmost.  Ben Silverman and Jon Sherman of Electus are both serving as EPs on the project while Sherman is penning the script; Jimmy Fox is a co-executive producer.  Production on the pilot will commence in September.

Casting Call: An Emmy Award-winning production company is casting for a new docu-series and looking for curvaceous and attractive ladies who are fun and wild.  The ladies should be 20-something, located in Los Angeles and be sized 14-18 and beyond.  The premise of the show is like Sex & The City featuring girls with curves who are single, love to date handsome men, party, dress sexy and have lots of confidence.   If this describes you or your friends, send an email to:  [email protected] and include your contact info, a brief bio with your name, age and occupation and explain why you and your friends will be great on the show along with photos.
