Spike TV debuts its new unscripted original series Auction Hunters on November 9 at 10p. Over eight half-hour episodes, the series highlights two prospectors, Clinton “Ton” Jones and Allen Haff as they win auctions and acquire abandoned treasure in storage units then sell it for a profit. Gurney Productions is producing.
NBC says it is delaying the premiere of its new fall reality series School Pride, reports THR. NBC will shift the school makeover series three weeks to now debut on October 15. In its stead, NBC will air two-hour Dateline episodes on Friday nights.
TLC is further relating stories of multiple births, this time with a new reality series featuring America’s first Latino sextuplets. The eight-episode series, Sextuplets Take New York premieres September 14 at 10p. In each episode, cameras follow challenged parents Victor and Digna Carpio as they juggle six toddlers at 22-months old and one active 9-year-old son in their modest house in Queens, NY. Figure 8 Films produces the series for TLC.
After eight years, FOX News’ chief White House correspondent, Major Garrett is leaving the cable news channel as of September 3 to join the National Journal. At FOX News, Garrett’s position in Washington, D.C. will be filled by White House correspondents Wendell Goller and Mike Emanuel.
Shalom TV, the free VOD Jewish cable network currently available in more than 38 million homes, will broadcast the Jewish High Holiday services via national cable TV for the first time. Designed for those who cannot attend a synagogue service, the Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur congregational programs will air beginning the week of September 5. The different parts of the services will be presented as individual programs such as liturgy, Torah readings, Shofar Service on Rosh Hashanah and more led by Rabbi Mark S. Golub, president of Shalom TV from his home community in Connecticut. Shalom TV is available through Comcast, Time Warner, Cablevision, Verizon FiOS, Cox, RCN, Bright House, Armstrong, Service Electric Cable vision, Buckeye CableSystem, MetroCast, Blue Ridge Communications, Frontier and Rogers Cable (Canada).
Universal Sports is set to broadcast live the Vuelta a Espana (Tour of Spain) cycling coverage starting this weekend. Universal Sports’ coverage begins with the half-hour 2010 Vuelta Preview Show tonight at 9p followed by the stage 1 live from Seville, Spain at 4p on Saturday preceded by a re-airing of the preview show at 330p. Universal Sports will cover more than 176 total hours throughout the three-week race everyday at 10a with rebroadcasts in primetime nightly at 8p until the cyclists roll into Madrid on September 19. During the two rest days on September 6 and 14, the network will air special Vuelta Recap Shows at 10a. Vuelta is the third and last of the three Grand Tours of Cycling including Giro and Tour de France.
In September, ExerciseTV is offering the world television premiere of full workouts available on two new DVDs: Jillian Michaels: Shred-It with Weights and Billy Blanks Jr: Dance with Me Cardio Fit, both from ExerciseTV and Lionsgate. Also available are the first-ever downloadable workout video classes from Crunch. ExerciseTV On Demand is available for free in 38 million digital television homes.
MTV’s frosh season finale of The Hard Times of RJ Berger on Monday at 10p, delivered the best ratings of the show’s season in key demos including a 1.35 rating among P12-34 as well as 1.3 million total viewers. During its first season, Hard Times was the network’s #2 series among M12-34 behind Jersey Shore and also tied with Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory.
Dr. Maura Clancey, 50, a media research veteran with Knowledge Networks, died last Monday. Ms. Clancey earned three degrees at the University of Maryland including a BA in Government and Politics; a MA in Speech Communication; and a PhD in Public Communication. For the last 20 years, she worked at Knowledge Networks-SRI as a SVP and prior to that was part of the Media Analysis Project at George Washington University and a Director/Research at C-SPAN. She is survived by her husband and two sons. Per her family’s request in lieu of flowers, donations in her name are requested and appreciated to the American Cancer Society or the Jefferson Foundation (benefitting Thomas Jefferson University Hospital), 925 Chestnut St., Suite 110, Philadelphia, PA 19107.

Twentieth Television said the sci-fi animated comedy Futurama from Matt Groening is now sold into broadcast weekend syndication to the Tribune television stations starting in fall 2011. To date, Futurama will be seen in the top five markets including New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Dallas as well as on Weigel Broadcasting’s WCIU in Chicago. Futurama is cleared on 30% of the US for weekends on Tribune’s WPIX/New York, KTLA/Los Angeles, WPHL/Philadelphia, WDCW/Washington, D.C., KDAF/Dallas, KIAH/Houston, KCPQ-KMYQ/Seattle, WSFL/Miami, KRCW/Portland, WXIN-WTTV/Indianapolis, WTIC-WCCT/Hartford, WGNO-WNOL/New Orleans; and Weigel Broadcasting’s WCIU/Chicago. The sixth season of Futurama is currently airing on Comedy Central.
A spinoff of ABC’s daytime talk show The View, sporting a more male point of view is in the works, reports Daily News. Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie, creators of The View are developing the new talk show based in Los Angeles aiming for an afternoon time slot. Similar to The View, the new show would feature five co-hosts discussing a variety of topics. Reportedly, Walters and Geddie hope to tap former Today show host Bryant Gumbel, Filipino-American comedian Alec Mapa, former BET news anchor Jacque Reid and former FOX News host E.D. Hill.
FX has a new comedy in development titled 13th Grade from Derek Waters who is partnering with actor Michael Cera and writer Emily Kapnek, cites Variety. Waters is behind the Funny or Die web series, Drunk History. The trio will executive produce the comedy about a high school graduate who is happy where he is until his girlfriend rejects him for being stuck between childhood and adulthood. Waters will also star in 13th Grade who created the concept along with Paige Gullivan; Cera is co-writing the script with Gullivan. Naomi Odenkirk and Mosaic will also executive produce with FX Productions producing the series in-house.
NBC ordered a put pilot for a new single-camera comedy from the creators of the recently canceled Starz sitcom Party Down, per Variety. The new project Temps is from Rob Thomas, Jon Enbom and Dan Etheridge who are executive producing with Jennifer Gwartz and Danielle Stokdyk who all worked for two seasons on Party Down. Temps will center on a group of recent college grads who have to take temp jobs to pay their bills. Warner Bros. Television is producing.

Tuesday A18-49 Analysis: NBC hit a high note Wednesday night with a 2.7/8 among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. ABC took out the competition during 8p with Wipeout at 2.7/9 followed by NBC’s Minute to Win It at 1.9/6. At 9p, NBC was successful with America’s Got Talent at 3.1/9 while UNIV remained in second place, this time with Soy Tu Duena at 2.2/6. NBC was rock solid through 10p as the second half of America’s Got Talent won with 3.1/9 and ABC was next with a Primetime: What Would You Do? repeat at 1.4/4.
