A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE FROM COMCAST SPOTLIGHT
Good morning. It’s Thursday, August 17, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing.
Following the abduction of two Fox News crew on Monday, there has been no word from any faction taking credit for the kidnapping and/or making demands in exchange for their return. Steve Centanni and cameraman Olaf Wiig were taken when their marked TV news vehicle was blocked by two other cars, and then an armed masked man took away Centanni and Wiig. Since then the New Zealand ambassador to Israel and Turkey has met with the Palestine President, and US consulate officials are also working with the Palestinian officials toward identifying the captors and locating the newsmen. Palestine officials say they have no firm leads. Olaf Wiig’s wife, Anita McNaught made a formal plea on Palestinian and Israel TV for her husband’s and Centanni’s safe return, saying “[These men] are friends of the Palestinians. They are here telling the Palestinian story for weeks now, when the rest of the world’s media has not been here.”
NBC: America’s Got Talent at 9p
MTV: Run’s House at 930p
FX: It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia at 10p

The first program available for sale through the recent partnership of Foster/Tailwind Entertainment is a new courtroom series called Jury Duty. Available for fall 2007, as a half-hour, 50/50 barter strip, the series combines real small claims cases and a jury comprised of three celebrity jurors. Bruce Cutler, 30-year defense attorney veteran, will host.
TBS will introduce a new micro-series called Lovebites starting September 13 that follows the romance of Katie and Max, a couple in their mid-20s. Each of the 82 episodes will be two-and-a-half minutes in length and will air weeknights after Sex and the City and after the 10p programming block on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays as well as during the day Monday through Friday. 65 of the episodes will air over 13 weeks, while the remaining 17 minis will be distributed by JWTwo on non-traditional platforms via retail and online. Lovebites, sponsored by Unilever’s Sunsilk hair product, is produced by Paul Reiser’s Nuance Productions, JWTwo Entertainment and Greif Productions. In addition, viewers can blog with the actors, view new and different episodes and tour Katie’s apartment at either lovebites.com or gethairapy.com.
The Meredith Corporation will sell its low-power FOX affiliate, KFXO-CA in Bend, OR to NPG of Oregon, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of News-Press & Gazette Company and owner of KTVZ, the NBC affiliate in Bend. The terms of the deal were not given. KFXO VP/GM Jerry Upham has resigned his post, and will be replaced by Sales Manager John Edwards until the transaction is finalized.
Juniper Partners Acquisition Corp. will acquire the privately-held company, Firestone Communications, Inc. which owns and manages ¡Sorpresa!, a children’s TV network and digital company targeting Hispanic youth. The deal will be final in fourth quarter, and once completed, Juniper will change its name to Juniper Content Corporation. ¡Sorpresa! is the first 24-hour network dedicated to Hispanic children ages two to 17 years old, with content ranging from educational, sports and live-action animation.
Barry Diller’s IAC/Interactive Corp. has acquired a controlling interest in collegehumor.com. Diller’s other online sites include Expedia and Match.com, in addition to the Home Shopping Network.
