~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Earlier this week, the Commission on Presidential Debates released the list of moderators for the presidential debates which spurred some criticism from some minority groups.  Randy Falco, President/CEO of Univision Communications responded by sending a letter yesterday to CPD Executive Director Janet Brown.  Falco began his letter expressing his disappointment “on behalf of the millions of Hispanics who do not have a voice in the upcoming presidential debates as evidence by the selected moderators.”  More than 20 million US Hispanics will be eligible to vote in the November elections representing 8.7% of all voters.  The Commission announced PBS’ Jim Lehrer, CNN’s Candy Crowley and CBS News’ Bob Schieffer will serve as this year’s presidential debate moderators.  Falco also said in the letter to Brown that Univision would be interested in hosting a forum for the presidential candidates to address the Hispanic audience, led by Univision anchors Jorge Ramos and Maria Elena Salinas.  To read Randy Falco’s letter in its entirety, please visit our website at www.cynopsis.com and look under Additional Industry News.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CARRIAGE & CLEARANCE ~

As of yesterday, Meruelo Media launched a new over-the-air channel, Super 22 in Los Angeles targeting Spanish language viewers.  KWHY-TV Channel 22 has become MundoFox 22 and the flagship affiliate for the MundoFox network.  Programming for Super 22, includes a mix of classic Spanish language movies, entertainment news programs and local news, Noticias 22 in addition to other shows such as Viva El 22 Los Angeles, Super Cine, Operacion Repo, No Lo Cuentes and Mikorte Informativo among others.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Michael J. Fox is working with writer Sam Laybourne (Cougar Town) and director Will Gluck (Easy A) on a single-camera comedy where he would star.  All four major networks, ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX are vying for the project.  Details about the series are limited though it is being developed by Sony Pictures Television for a planned 2013 launch and the plot is inspired by Fox’s own life.

FOX picked up a project from Parenthood showrunner Jason Katims and writer/producer Sarah Watson, reports THR.  FOX gave the one-hour project a put-pilot commitment that is produced by Universal Televisions.  The plot is described as an “edgy, twisted romantic dramedy set in a Chicago law firm.” Watson is writing the pilot with Katims overseeing and both will serve as EPs in addition to Katims’ new head of development, Michelle Lee.

Just days after Kristin Chenoweth departed CBS’ The Good Wife due to an injury she sustained on the set last month, the series is adding her former GCB cast mate Miriam Shor.  Shor joins The Good Wife in the recurring role as a reporter.

NBC’s midseason drama Hannibal from Bryan Fuller tapped Lara Jean Chorostecki (Camelot) to play the disreputable tabloid reporter, Freddie Lounds.  In the past this part has been played by Stephen Lang in 1986’s Manhunter and Philip Seymour Hoffman in 2002’s Red Dragon.

Saturday Night Live on NBC is losing regular cast member Abby Elliott.  After four seasons, Elliott has decided to not return for the shows 38th season.

The CW’s upcoming new superhero series Arrow added former Torchwood star John Barrowman to play a character known as Well Dressed Man, a rich friend of the Queen family and a prominent figure in Starling City.  Arrow makes its debut on The CW October 10 at 8p as a lead-in to Supernatural.

Former Xena and Spartacus star, Lucy Lawless is joining NBC’s Parks and Recreation in a multiple episode run.  Lawless will play a single mom in Pawnee named Diane who has a small problem in her neighborhood and Ron and Andy are sent to help.  While there, Andy notices some sparks fly between her and Ron.  Parks and Recreation premieres its new season on NBC September 20.
