TBS said yesterday it will not go forward with a third season of late night talk show, Lopez Tonight starring George Lopez.  Tonight’s episode will also be the finale of the show.  Lopez Tonight premiered on TBS in November 2009 and last year was moved back to air at midnight following Conan.  The show averaged 546,000 total viewers according to Live + 7 ratings data during season two, a 40% decline from the first season.  The network released a statement and said in part: “We are proud to have partnered with George Lopez, who is an immensely talented comedian and entertainer. TBS has valued its partnership with George and appreciates all of his work on behalf of the network, both on and off the air.”

In a radio interview on Ryan Seacrest’s program, American Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe said Jennifer Lopez will return as judge for the competition show’s eleventh season rejoining Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson as well as host Ryan Seacrest.  Lythgoe admitted an official announcement is yet to come.

Season three of National Geographic Channel’s series Border Wars debuts September 4 with stacked episodes at 9p.  Starting September 11, the series settles into its regular time slot of 10p on Sundays.  Border Wars follows embedded officers and agents of the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as they defend the border crossing between the US and Mexico.  Border Wars is produced by National Geographic Television for Nat Geo Channel.

Starting this Friday, Syfy’s series Haven will weave a seven-episode storyline that flows from the show to Twitter.  Haven characters Vince (Richard Donat) and Dave (John Dunsworth) managers of the Haven newspaper join Twitter as newbies.  Viewers can follow the characters (@VinceHaven and @DaveHaven) and see them interact with a mysterious Twitter user (@ColdInHaven) who knows more about Haven than anyone else.  The Twitter storyline will reach its conclusion in the second season finale scheduled for September 30.

The Layover, the recently-announced new Travel Channel original series starring Anthony Bourdain will premiere November 21 at 9p.  In each of the 10 one-hour episodes, Bourdain has 24-48 hours in a city to explore and find the insider places to visit and eat.  The first season will take Bourdain to New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Hong Kong, Singapore, London, Rome, Montreal and Amsterdam. Zero Point Zero produces the series.

Yesterday, Cablevision Systems Corporation and Viacom Inc. agreed to resolve litigation filed in the Southern District of New York pertaining to Cablevision’s Optimum Apps.  As a result of the agreement, the two companies issued a joint statement:

“Viacom and Cablevision have agreed to resolve their pending litigation, and the Viacom programming will continue to appear on Cablevision’s Optimum Apps for iPad and other IP devices. In reaching the settlement agreement, Cablevision and Viacom were able to resolve the iPad matter and an unrelated business matter to their mutual satisfaction. Neither side is conceding its original legal position or will have further comment.”

Last Monday’s season 1A finale of Switched at Birth on ABC Family at 9p attracted 1.7 million/1.3 rating among A18-49, becoming the series’ top-rated telecast with this demo.  The concluding episode also tallied 1.1 million/1.6 rating with A18-34.

CBS harks back to the past by ordering a script for an updated version of the classic sitcom Bewitched from Sony Pictures Television.  Married executive producers Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher, behind the 2005 Bewitched film, will executive produce through their company Red Wagon.  Marc Lawrence will write the script and also serve as executive producer.

ABC approved a game show pilot, The Exit List from Michael Davies, the former executive producer of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.  The Exit List, produced by Sony Pictures Television and Davies’ Embassy Row will follow contestants traveling through a maze of rooms filled with money. To collect the money, players must remember what they learned along the way as they attempt to find their way out.  The project is based on a Dutch format from David Grifhorst and is in development in at least one other territory.  The pilot will be filmed in New York next month.

Lifetime is developing a new one-hour series, The Client List based on the network’s successful 2010 original movie of the same name.  Jennifer Love Hewitt will star in and executive produce the series which is scheduled to premiere next year with 10 episodes.  Lifetime additionally signed a first-look development deal for other series and movies with Hewitt’s production company Fedora Films.  Hewitt will further get to direct a future movie for the network.  The Client List centers on a housewife from Texas (Hewitt) who after being deserted by her husband and left with deep debts, takes a job at what appears to be a traditional day spa in a nearby town.  She quickly realizes more than massages are on the menu and she partners with the disorganized owner to run the business.  Hewitt’s character then leads a double life as a single mom in a conservative town struggling to provide for her family and another life as a savvy and ambitious businesswoman.  Hewitt’s Fedora Films is producing the series with Hewitt as executive producer along with Dannielle Thomas, Howard Braunstein, Michael Jaffe, AJ Rinella and Jordan Budde.

Spike TV okayed four new series in addition to renewing its original series Repo Games for a second season with twenty new episodes for 2012.  According to Spike TV, the four new series all contain “a distinctive theme of genuine men in high pressure situations where the stakes are real.”

  • World’s Worst Tenants follows professional evictor Todd Howard as he deals with the dirtiest and most insane tenants in more than 150 residential, commercial and retail units.
  • American Digger is about former pro wrestler turned relic hunter Ric Savage as he convinces homeowners to allow him and his American Savage team dig up treasure in their backyards.
  • Big Easy Justice tags after bounty hunter Tat-2 as he tracks elusive criminals based in his native New Orleans.
  • Undercover Stings, from the producers of Cops, will give viewers an inside view of orchestrated busts and undercover police sting operations.

Former Friday Night Lights cast member LaMarcus Tinker joins FOX’s Glee this fall as a love interest for Amber Riley’s character, Mercedes.  Tinker begins work on the series immediately.

Nick Zano (Cougar Town, Melrose Place) will next appear on CBS’ new comedy 2 Broke Girls in a recurring guest role playing a street artist who goes by the name of Jpeg.  2 Broke Girls stars Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs and premieres on CBS September 19 at 830p.

Fresh off his role as Balthazar in The CW’s Supernatural, Sebastian Roche stays with the network and moves to The Vampire Diaries in a recurring guest starring role, cites EW.  Roche will play a mysterious guy who appears to be hunting vampires and specifically targets Klaus.

Casting Call: A production company is casting nationwide for identical twins between the ages of 21 to 40 for a new documentary airing on a major cable network.  If you are an identical twin or know identical twins that are very close, live together, work together and have all the same interests, the producers want to hear from you.  The documentary will give twins the chance to tell the story of their relationship and bond.  Please email a photo and brief description of your twin relationship to:  [email protected].
