~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

PPI Releasing said it has a firm go in the US for the syndicated daily talk show Steven and Chris. The series was also granted a fourth season renewal on the CBC with production beginning this September shot entirely for the first time in hi-def. Produced by CBC Television, Steven and Chris will feature the current segment Ask Steven and Chris as well as an interactive segment called Better Choice Challenge.

FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) picked up the worldwide distribution rights to the US series Kell on Earth featuring PR expert Kelly Cutrone. The series has eight one-hour episodes and is currently airing its first season on Bravo. Magical Elves produces Kell on Earth with Jane Lipsitz and Dan Cutforth serving as executive producers.

Peter Rodgers Organization (PRO) made an exclusive deal with ZPI – Zorro Productions Incorporated to represent the ZORRO series globally. The series has 88 half-hour episodes produced by New World Television from 1990-1994. PRO has hired The Fremantle Corporation to secure international sales while PRO will distribute across all media throughout North America.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Jack Black made an exclusive two-year production agreement with Reveille involving TV and online scripted comedies and unscripted and animated projects. The deal allows Black’s production company Electric Dynamite to set up an office at Reveille involving Priyanka Mattoo and Black’s partner Ben Cooley. Shine International will manage international distribution for any series and other formats emanating from the deal.

Prior to its upfront presentation this week, TLC said it is bringing back the American Chopper franchise. The series ran for six seasons on Discovery Channel, then later on TLC and had supposedly aired its final episode on February 11. TLC made a fresh deal with the Teutul family to gear up for another run.

BET approved a scripted comedy pilot titled Let’s Stay Together. The relationship comedy stars Malinda Williams (Soul Food) and Bert Belasco and is described as an update, urban version of Mad About You about a newly engaged pediatrician Stacy (Williams) and contractor Charles (Belasco) who attempt to merge their independent lives into a traditional marriage. BET is expected to announce it is ordering a new season of The Game, the former CW sitcom and Let’s Stay Together would likely be paired with that sitcom.

Showtime gave a series pick-up with 12 episodes to the series Shameless headlined by William H. Macy and produced by Warner Bros. Television and John Wells Productions, cites Variety. Based on a British drama, Macy will play an alcoholic patriarch of a large, blue-collar family living in Chicago.  Production is expected to begin later this summer though Showtime has not yet set a premiere date.

Casting Call: Doron Ofir Casting is working with 495 Productions, the production team behind MTV’s Jersey Shore to cast for a Persian version. The show seeks Persian-Americans living in Los Angeles who dominate nightlife in Hollywood and Beverly Hills. Candidates must be at least 21 years old and appear younger than 30 years with personalities that are outrageous, outspoken and proud. Interested applicants should send an email to [email protected].
