Syfy set out its summer schedule highlighted by the network’s first-ever reality block on Thursday nights and the premiere of its new scripted drama series, Haven. Premiere dates for new and returning series include:

  • Ghost Hunters Academy – New episodes premiere June 2 at 9p. Produced in association with Pilgrim Films and Television.
  • Warehouse 13 – Season two opens July 6 at 9p and is produced for Syfy by Universal Cable Productions.
  • Eureka – Returns for a fourth season on July 9 at 9p and is produced and distributed by Universal Cable Productions.
  • Haven – Syfy’s new scripted drama series launches July 9 at 10p following Eureka and is based on the novella by Stephen King, The Colorado Kid. Produced by E1 Entertainment in association with Pillar, Segan and Shepherd, Haven is the first project to be produced for Syfy in the US and NBCU Pay channels worldwide (excluding Canada and Scandinavia). Canwest Broadcasting in Canada co-commissioned the series with international distribution managed by E1.
  • Ghost Hunters International – New episodes premiere on July 14 at 9p. Produced in association with Pilgrim Films and Television.
  • New Thursday night reality block debuts July 15 with new series Mary Knows Best (wt) at 9p followed by Paranormal Investigators (wt) at 10p. Atlas Media Corp. produces Mary Knows Best and Base Productions produces Paranormal Investigators.

Emmy Award-winning writer and producer, David Mills, 48, died suddenly Tuesday night in New Orleans of a brain aneurysm. Mills was living in New Orleans and working as a writer and co-executive producer on the upcoming HBO drama series, Treme scheduled to premiere on April 11. Mills’ previous credits include HBO’s miniseries The Corner which earned him two Emmys; as a co-producer of NBC’s ER; and was a writer/co-producer on ABC’s NYPD Blue. He also created and wrote for the HBO series Kingpin and won WGA Awards for Wire and Homicide and a Humanitas Prize for NYPD Blue in 1997. Mills also penned the blog called Undercover Black Man. HBO released this statement yesterday: “HBO is deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our dear friend and colleague David Mills. He was a gracious and humble man, and will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him, as well as those who were aware of his immense talent.”

ACI Licensing was named the sole licensing agent for the ABC’s series Dancing with the Stars and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. ACI is charged with securing licensing deals involving products and opportunities geared to consumers utilizing traditional and new platforms.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Planet Green approved a new eight-episode series titled Shareen Vintage set to premiere in early 2011. The half-hour series, produced by World of Wonder, follows vintage fashion designer Shareen Mitchell who takes worn-out articles of clothing and turns them into fashion-forward, stunning creations that are one-of-a-kind. Shareen Vintage will air in the network’s new primetime programming block, VERGE.

Julianne Moore, better known today as a film actress, will return to her acting roots as she appears on CBS’ daytime drama As the World Turns on April 5. Moore will reprise her role as Frannie Hughes who shows up in Oakdale to celebrate her father and stepmother’s wedding anniversary. Moore was on AWT from 1985-1988 playing half-sisters Frannie and Sabrina Hughes, which won her an Emmy Award in 1988.

Ryan Hansen (Veronica Mars, Party Down) will next appear as the lead in NBC’s comedy pilot Friends With Benefits, cites THR. Hansen will play Ben an “everyman” type looking for Ms. Perfect who also enjoys a “friends with benefits” relationship with Sara (Danneel Harris), a doctor seeking Mr. Right. Furthermore, Orlando Jones was cast in a leading role in FOX’s comedy pilot Tax Man playing a co-worker in an IRS district office where the auditor (David Krumholtz) is hounded by the boss (Martin Short).

Casting Call: CBS is hosting an opening casting call for Big Brother 12 in New York City on April 10, beginning 12 noon at Roy Arias Studios, 300 W. 43rd St., NYC, 5th Floor, Suite 505. Producers are seeking males and females, age 21-60 who are attractive, fun, outgoing, energetic with personality-plus. Also, having a New York accent is considered a plus. During the on-camera auditions, be prepared to talk with producers for about two minutes on why you would be a great house guest and what makes you unique. Tuesday  A18-49 Analysis: FOX was #1 Tuesday night at 7.7/21 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. FOX wowed viewers with American Idol during 8p at 7.2/21 while the first Dancing with the Stars Results Show on ABC came next at 3.0/9. American Idol on FOX remained strong through 9p at 8.1/22 with ABC’s Lost finding its way to second place with 4.1/11. ABC took over in first place at 10p with V at 2.8/8 with NBC’s Parenthood taking second place at 2.5/7.

McCann Erickson added Eric Bowe as EVP/Director of Strategic Planning for the company’s Birmingham, MI office as well as Amy Palmer Messinger as SVP/Director of Strategic Planning for the company’s Los Angeles office. Effective immediately, Eric will supervise strategic planning for McCann Erickson’s Detroit office and will work with agency clients such as ALDI, Colonial Williamsburg, GM and more. Eric will report to Garry Neel, CEO, McCann Erickson’s Detroit office. Madison Square Garden appointed Casey Coffman in the newly-created position of EVP/Business Development and Operations for Madison Square Garden (MSG) Sports. Casey will report and work closely with Scott O’Neil, President, MSG Sports overseeing the daily operations of the MSG Sports business encompassing NBA’s New York Knicks, NHL’s New York Rangers, WNBA’s New York Liberty as well as the Sports Properties division including college basketball, boxing, tennis and other sports events held at Madison Square Garden-owned venues.

Elizabeth Ogilvie joins WFN: World Fishing Network as Director/Partnership Marketing. Prior to this appointment, Elizabeth served as Corporate Marketing Manager with Trout Unlimited. At WFN, Elizabeth will be involved with implementing marketing efforts with the network’s various partners and will additionally be charged with developing new partners in specific regions with the goal to increase distribution.

Media agency MEC is launching a new integrated Analytics and Insight practice in North American headed by Theresa LaMontagne in the newly-created role as Managing Director. Based in New York, Theresa will manage the integration of all of MEC’s various businesses and will work in tandem with the agency’s client teams to develop programs benefitting clients. She will report to Lee Doyle, CEO North America.

Allison Lort was tapped as Senior Director/Licensing Sales with Feld Entertainment, Inc. based in New York City. Allison will supervise brand licensing sales for Feld Motor Sports’ property Monster Jam.
