Bruno Mars has landed the coveted Super Bowl halftime spot. The “Grenade” singer will perform at the event on Fox on Sunday, February 2, 2014, at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Tokyo beat out Istanbul and Madrid to play host to the 2020 Summer Olympics, the last in NBC‘s current contract. The net shelled out a whopping $1.418 billion for the 2020 Games, but considering 2012’s sky-high ratings (a record 219 million viewers) it looks like money well spent.

Like AMC‘s Breaking Bad and Walking Dead, Sons of Anarchy has gotten itself an aftershow chatfest. FX will stream 30-minute eps live on its web site after the 10p season six premiere on Tuesday, September 10, episode five and the season finale. Fans will be able to ask questions of a panel of cast members and guests.

Ahead of the Congressional vote on military action in Syria, President Obama is scheduled to tape interviews today with ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox News, PBS and CNN. CBS News also announced a Charlie Rose talk with Syrian president Bashar-al-Assad, taped Sunday, to air Monday.

Actress/model/former Miss USA Susie Castillo has been tapped to represent Oxygen Media as its on-air personality. Castillo is tasked with building awareness for the brand by covering pop culture for the net, hosting events and participating in social media initiatives.

Rural Media Group has signed a deal with Sony Pictures Television Ad Sales to expand exposure of RMG’s rural lifestyle themed nets, RFD-TV and Rural TV, as well as its radio properties, to major national advertising agencies. There will be emphasis on event broadcasts, like the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in December.

Pepsi is bowing out of its flagship sponsorship of Fox‘s The X-Factor. Taking its place, along with departing Chevrolet, are Honda and Procter & Gamble. Honda’s Odyssey minivan will get digital-voting social media exposure, while P&G will plug Cover Girl, Secret deodorant and Herbal Essence.

For the record books: AMC‘s Breaking Bad made the 2014 Guinness World Records Book as Highest-Rated Series. Nielsen-wise it’s no Duck Dynasty, but the record is based on’s score of 99 out 100 for the critically acclaimed meth drama. The latest Guinness edition goes on sale Thursday, September 12.

Docu-series Life After is back for season five to check in with celebs who faced major turning points in their lives and careers. “Actress Maia Campbell (In the House) is probably the biggest surprise of the season,” K2 Pictures Inc.‘s Exec Producer  Robert Katz tells Cynopsis. “She had amazing success, then faded from the limelight. We’re glad we can tell the rest of her story.” Series returns on TV One September 11 at 8p.

When The X-Factor premiered last season, the spotlight was on Britney Spears. After lackluster ratings, Spears is gone, and Kelly Rowland, Paulina Rubio and returning Demi Lovato sit with Simon Cowell on the judge’s panel – but this year, at a screening for several season three auditions, Cowell promised it will be the contestants who will shine. “The whole purpose of making this show is to find a star,” said Cowell. Season premiere is Wednesday, September 11 at 8p.

Networks (both Cable & Broadcast) are faced with eroding ratings and ad dollars shifting from TV to Digital. That’s why Cynopsis is presenting a conference on what networks are doing  and what they need to do more of  to aggressively evolve to compete, and profit in this shifting landscape. Join us as our experts share the latest business and advertising models for success at the Cynopsis Future TV Summit!

Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City) will join NBC‘s Hannibal in a recurring role when the serial killer drama returns midseason for its sophomore go-round. Nixon will play Jack Crawford’s (Laurence Fishburne) new boss.

Michael J. Fox gets a mom and dad on his new NBC series, The Michael J. Fox Show – and they’re Candice Bergen (Murphy Brown) and Charles Grodin (Beethoven). Series premieres Thursday, September 26 at 9p.

Greg Germann (Ally McBeal) has been cast in Lifetime drama pilot HR, opposite Alicia Silverstone. Germann plays a director of human resources.

Syfy has cast three actors for supernatural drama pilot Dominion. ChristopherEgan (Kings), Tom Wisdom (300) and Alan Dale (The OC) play characters in a follow-up to theatrical film Legion (2010). The Universal Cable Productions project starts shooting later this month in Cape Town, South Africa.

Three Pac-12 networks have struck a deal with AT&T U-verse. Pac-12 Network, Pac-12 Los Angeles and Pac-12 Bay Area will now be available on U-verse, and AT&T will become the exclusive wireless provider for the Pac-12 venues. The agreement gives subscribers of DirecTV, which does not carry the net, another college game option.

Lionsgate has acquired the home entertainment distribution rights to Britt Allcroft’s Magic Adventures of Mumfie. The children’s series featuring an adventurous elephant premiered on British television and on Fox Kids Network in the mid-90s.

Canal 22 Internacional, an arts and entertainment channel for the Mexican audience in the U.S., is introducing new series Mexicanos Exitosos. The show, chronicling the journeys of people who found success in new countries, debuts Sunday, September 15 at 11p, with English subtitles.

Oriental Dreamworks is digging deeper into China. The partnership between DreamWorks Animation and three Chinese partners was originally envisioned as a feature animation company, but Head of Production Joe Aguilar announced that plans have expanded to include animated TV, live action films and live action TV, including reality shows.

Bethenny Frankel‘s new syndicated talker, Bethenny, from Telepictures and A Very Good Production, makes its debut today after a successful test run last summer. “We always believed Bethenny had the talent, popularity and credibility with daytime viewers to become appointment television,” Ken Werner, President Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution tells Cynopsis, “and are thrilled the long wait is over.”

A weather delay didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of football fans on Thursday night. The NFL season opener on NBC averaged a 10.3 rating/31 share in A18-49 and 25.1 million total viewers, up about 5 percent.

After Wednesday night’s R&B Divas LA: Reunion Part 1 drew 834,000 viewers 2+ and tied for the top telecast among A25-54 in TV One history, Chairman and CEO Alfred Liggins is looking forward to part 2. “The combination of host Wendy Williams with our exciting LA Divas cast delivered for TV One in blockbuster fashion,” Liggins tells Cynopsis. “We can’t wait for viewers to get a taste of part 2.” Airs Wednesday, September 11 at 10p.
