Football, specifically the Jets 27-20 victory over the Bills, delayed the start of the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards, but once the show began it took over as the most exciting game in town – from Michael Douglas (Best Actor in a Miniseries/Movie for Behind the Candelabra) to Merritt Wever’s acceptance speech to a few stunning upsets.

Jack Klugman‘s son was fuming over his father’s exclusion from a special tribute on Sunday’s Emmy show. “I think it’s criminal,” Adam Klugman told The Associated Press. “My dad was at the inception of television and helped build it in the early days.” Klugman and others were part of a traditional In Memoriam segment, but not the special tribute reserved for Cory Monteith, James Gandolfini, Jean Stapleton, Jonathan Winters and Gary David Goldberg.
Madmen creator Michael Weiner told The Hollywood Reporter “there’s no chance” of a spinoff for the AMC series, which is set to split its final season with seven episodes in the spring of 2014 and seven in 2015. “This is the story. When it’s done, it’s done,” said Weiner.
The countdown to the end of AMC‘s Breaking Bad begins with a marathon of seasons 1 to 4, airing Wednesday, September 25 through the finale on Sunday, September 29 at 9p, followed by Talking Bad, a live after-show featuring creator Vince Gilligan, Aaron Paul, Jesse Plemmons, RJ Mitte, Giancarlo Esposito and others. “We want to appropriately honor this remarkable series by delivering the ultimate, most immersive experience for Breaking Bad fans,” said Charlie Collier, president, AMC.
Guy Fieri is hitting the supermarket in the new Food Network competition series Guy’s Grocery Games on Sunday, October 20 at 8p. The show features four competitors navigating their way through real-world culinary challenges for a chance to win up to $20,000.
Meanwhile, season nine Food Network Star winner Damaris Phillips will join the daytime lineup in her new cooking show, premiering Sunday, October 27 at 10:30a. The focus will be modern Southern cuisine.
Cooking Channel is dishing out three new series: Best in Chow (Wednesday, October 9 at 10:30p), Come Date with Me (Friday, October 25 at 10p) and Restaurant Redemption (Tuesday, October 29 at 8p). Premises range from finding love via adventures and cooking to making over struggling eateries.
A time capsule containing the mouse from Steve Jobs‘ first mass-marketed Lisa computer was uncovered on the grounds of the Aspen Music Festival in Aspen, Colorado. The finding was made by National Geographic Channel‘s Diggers team for an episode of the series that will air in early 2014.
TNT has canceled King & Maxwell. The drama series, which debuted in June, averaged 3.1 million total viewers during the course of its 10-episode season.

HBO has greenlit the pilot The Brink from executive producers Jerry Weintraub, Jay Roach and Roberto Benabib. The dark comedy centers on a geopolitical crisis and its effect on three desperate men.
TNT has ordered 10 episodes of Murder in the First, the new Stephen Bochco drama starring Taye Diggs and Kathleen Robertson. The series is being produced by TNT Originals and is slated to premiere in summer 2014.
BBC Kids network CBBC is adapting Henry Winkler’s children’s book series Hank Zipzer: The Worlds’ Greatest Underachiever into a TV series. Based on the Winkler’s experience with dyslexia, the show will get a 13-episode run next year.
Jason Watt of Watt Pictures has inked a one-year first look deal with Al Roker Entertainment (ARE). Watt’s credits with ARE include Lockstars (Spike). He also served as Creator and Executive Producer on TLC‘s Jersey Brides and Bada Bling.
The League‘s Paul Scheer has sold a family comedy to ABC. The show focuses on a couple working to keep their relationship together, while juggling their kids and their parents. Scheer is slated to write and produce the project.
Connection III Entertainment Corp. has sold the third season of Live Life and Win! to the FOX, CW Plus and Sinclair station groups for 2013-14. This fall also marks the ninth season launch of Made in Hollywood and the eighth season launch of Made in Hollywood: Teen Edition.
TLC will ring in the 2014 with all new episodes of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. The network has ordered 12 episodes and three specials, premiering on Wednesday, January 1 at 9p.
Food Network gets in the spooky spirit with a new season of Halloween Wars, premiering Sunday, October 6 at 9pm. Also returning is Restaurant: Impossible with Robert Irvine on Wednesday, October 23 at 10p.

John Noble, remembered as eccentric scientist Walter Bishop on Fringe, has been tapped for a recurring guest-starring role on the new FOX drama Sleepy Hollow. He’ll play Henry Parrish, a kind and reclusive man who possesses supernatural powers.
Jeffrey Wright (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) will appear on Monday, September 23’s episode of FXX‘s Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell.
Miami Heat Star Dwyane Wade will make a cameo in season three of Disney Channel‘s Austin & Ally slated to air in early 2014.
Star Trek‘s George Takei will make a surprise visit on the series premiere of Syfy‘s Fangasm on Tuesday, September 24 at 10p.
On the heels of last week’s finale, NBC‘s America’s Got Talent is starting casting auditions for season nine. Cities include: Miami (October 25-27), Atlanta (November 1-3), New York (November 15-17), Dallas (November 2-24), Denver (December 6-8), Indianapolis (January 14-16), Los Angeles (February 7-9). Nordic World has sold its live-action pre-school drama series Waffle Heart to Germany children’s channel KiKA. The deal marks the first international sale of the Prix Jeunesse-winning drama, based on Maria Parr’s best-selling book Waffle Heart, which has now been published in almost 20 territories.

ABC‘s season debut of Dancing With the Stars added 1.4 million viewers to its live + same day total and gained 13% more Adults 18-49, based on Nielsen’s Live + 3 Day data. Posting bigger lifts in the L3 data than last year’s premiere, the show’s opener is now up by even higher double-digit percentages year to year in both Total Viewers (+15% – 17.4 million vs. 15.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (+25% – 3.5 rating vs. 2.8 rating).
Over 1.5 million people tuned in for Tyler Perry‘s For Better or Worse season three premiere on September 18 at 9p. The series led OWN to its most-watched Wednesday night in network history in total viewers, and OWN ranked as the #3 cable network for the night in women 25-54.
Thursday A18-49 Analysis: CBS won the most A18-49 viewers on Thursday night with a 1.8/6, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p FOX’s The X Factor led with 2.0/7. CBS’ Big Bang Theory and Two and A Half Men combined for a close second at 1.9/7. CBS took over the top spot at 9p, with episodes of Big Bang Theory and Two and A Half Men averaging 2.0/6, followed by NBC’s Million Second Quiz at 1.5/4. At 10p Univision’s Que Bonito Amor was number 1 at 1.1/3. CBS’ Element trailed at 1.0/3.

John Saade, executive vice president of alternative and late-night programming at ABC, is out. Saade was a key player in developing Dancing With the Stars and The Bachelor. No reason was given for his departure. Former E! executive Lisa Berger is expected to take replace him.
Michael Riley is exiting his post as president of ABC Family. It’s been reported that he is seeking a position with greater focus on international business. Riley is likely to depart next month.
Lionsgate CFO James Keegan is retiring, effective October 1. He’ll be replaced by James Barge, former executive vice president and CFO of Viacom. Keegan will remain on the board as a consultant until January 3, 2014 to assist with the transition.
Paul Fredericksen, President and General Manager of KCCI-TV, the Hearst Television Inc. CBS affiliate serving the Des Moines, Iowa, television market, will retire later this year. Frederickson has served in the post since 1986. His successor will be announced at a future date.
