~ PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT ~

Casting Notes:

  • Benjamin Stockham was cast in the upcoming FOX comedy series Sons of Tucson. Newcomer Stockham plays the youngest of three brothers, Robby Gunderson. The plot has the brothers hiring a charming con guy to stand in as their father who is doing time in prison. 20th Century Fox Television produces.
  • Andrew Connolly joins the NBC drama Heroes over multiple episodes playing Samuel Sullivan’s older brother played by Robert Knepper, per THR.

Penn Jillette and Teller, the comedic/illusionist team made a deal to star in a project for ABC somewhat based on their own lives, reports Variety. ABC gave the one-hour Penn and Teller project a script order about a pair of Las Vegas magicians by night and reluctant detectives by day. Warner Bros. Television will produce and Leonard Dick (House) is writing and executive producing along with Jillette and Teller; Peter Golden also co-executive produces. Penn and Teller are not new to television as together they have appeared on several TV shows and currently host the seven-season series, Bullsh*t! on Showtime.

In other ABC news, a pilot production commitment was given to a relationship comedy written by Shana Goldberg-Meehan (Friends), cites Variety. The multi-camera project is about two sisters in varying stages of romantic relationships. Warner Bros. Television will produce with Goldberg-Meehan executive producing. Additionally, ABC handed a script order for another multi-camera comedy from writers Brett Paesel and Marsh McCall. This yet-to-be-titled project is about a newly divorced woman, Megan McPhee who, in the process of rebuilding her life, takes on an unusual job. Warren Littlefield executive produces.

CYNOPSIS DIGITAL – TODAY’S TOP STORY:  The FCC will no longer remain neutral on the controversial net neutrality issue, according to published reports. FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski is expected to give speech on Monday to transform existing net neutrality principles into codified rules that specify how internet service providers are allowed to manage the flow of traffic on their networks. The rules, which will be extended to include both broadband and wireless networks according to the WSJ, will make it impossible for the Comcasts and AT&Ts of the U.S. to block or throttle services based on what kind of content is being delivered or how much bandwidth is being consumed. The new rules, long advocated by content providers like Google, could open up the net to new data-intensive services.   Full edition: CYN DIGITAL.

CYNOPSIS KIDS – TODAY’S TOP STORY: After 38-years with Disney, Dick Cook announced on Friday that he is stepping down as Chairman of the Walt Disney Studios, effective immediately.  The news came as a surprise to pretty much everyone.  Cook, who began his career with the company as a ride operator at Disneyland and became Chairman in 2002, offered no specific reason for his egress explaining, “I have been contemplating this for some time now and feel it’s the right time for me to move on to new adventures….”  Cook is also credited with helping to ink a deal with Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks, under which Disney will distribute DreamWorks movies, and launching Disneynature and the newest Disney’s Double Dare You with Guillermo del Toro at the helm.  The movie studio has not had huge success with its releases over the last year or so, with Disney CEO Robert Iger pointing to the studio as the cause for Disney’s decline in the second part of 2009.  Of course, right after that, Disney released Up (5/29/09), which remains the third biggest grossing movie of 2009 domestically and the fourth biggest computer animated movie, per Box Office Mojo.  A successor for Cook’s position has not been named.  Full edition: CYN KIDS.
