Yelp is suing Google for antitrust violations, alleging Google has preserved its monopoly in local search by directing users toward its own local search vertical from its general search engine page. The suit comes after a federal judge ruled earlier this month that Google violated US antitrust law by maintaining a monopoly in the search and advertising markets. “Yelp has long fought to make Google’s local search experience more helpful for consumers and create a level playing field for competing vertical search services,” wrote Yelp co-founder and CEO Jeremy Stoppelman in a blog post. “With our action, we aim to safeguard competition, protect consumer choice, recover damages, and prevent Google from engaging in anticompetitive practices so that innovation may flourish.”

Annapurna has partnered with Remedy Entertainment to develop and produce their Control and Alan Wake franchises for film, television and other formats. Annapurna will also work with Remedy as a co-production and co-financing partner for the upcoming game Control 2.
“Blue Ridge: The Series” lassoed a second season order. The drama’s sophomore run will premiere in 2025 on Western Bound, the FAST channel launching September 3 as a rebrand of Cowboy Way. The season one finale airs Sunday, September 1 at 9p in INSP.
NEW & RETURNING SERIES
Season four of Netflix’s “Outer Banks” will premiere Thursday, October 10 with its first five episodes, followed by five more on November 7. The drama follows teens searching for treasure on the North Carolina coast.
The CW is switching it up. The fourth and final season of “Superman & Lois” and new unscripted series “The Wranglers” are moving from Thursdays to Mondays, while “Scrabble” and “Trivial Pursuit” move from Mondays to Thursdays. “Superman & Lois” launches with a two-hour premiere on October 7, followed a week late by “The Wranglers.” The game shows make their series premieres on October 3.
Acorn TV and Channel 5 ordered a fourth season of crime drama “The Madame Blanc Mysteries.” Clapperboard and Saffron Cherry Productions are co-producing, with Acorn Media Enterprises onboard as international distributor. A Christmas special is set to air on Acorn TV and Channel 5 in 2024, with the rest of the season continuing in 2025.
Sequel series “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” premieres Tuesday, October 29 at 8p on Disney Channel. Original cast member Selena Gomez will guest star on the first episode, and Disney Channel alums Raven-Symoné (“That’s So Raven”) and Danielle Fishel (“Girl Meets World”) are directing episodes of the show.

Be Heard: #ShopLikeNana aims to popularize shopping in closets of thrift store to help avert the climate and environmental crises that fast fashion is causing. OpenAI is in discussions on a deal that would value the company at $100 billion, reports The Wall Street Journal. The funding round would be led by Thrive Capital, and could also include funding from Microsoft; both companies have already invested in the ChatGPT maker. Also in talks with OpenAI is Apple, according to WSJ.

YES Network and MSG Networks are forming a joint venture for a new direct-to-consumer business called GAME (Gotham Advanced Media & Entertainment), which will be home to streaming apps MSG+ and YES. The New York Yankees and Brooklyn Nets are YES Network teams, while MSG’s include the Knicks, Rangers, Islanders, Devils and Sabres. “This joint venture with YES will combine the streaming expertise of two of the largest regional sports networks in the country,” said Andrea Greenberg, President and CEO of MSG Networks. “With the formation of GAME, we seek to marry our collective insight, expertise and best-in-class technology not only to explore enhancements to our own products, but also to offer other networks, teams and sports properties an efficient way to launch a state-of-the-art streaming service. We are excited to partner with YES to create solutions for third-party content providers looking for a seamless way to reach new audiences.” The app will arrive in time for the NBA and NHL seasons.
Tom Brady’s bid to become a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders puts restrictions on his access to teams around the NFL as part of his role as a Fox Sports broadcaster. Brady is not permitted to attend broadcast production meetings, may not have access to team facilities, players or coaches, and must abide by league bylaws that prohibit public criticism of officials and other clubs. Brady is allowed to broadcast Raiders games.

The Walt Disney Company announced 100 exclusive NHL games across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN+, ABC and Hulu.
