The lawsuit filed by the estate of Michael Crichton, calling upcoming Max medical drama “The Pitt” a copy of Crichton’s “ER,” is “baseless,” says Warner Bros. Television. “’The Pitt’ is a new and original show,” the studio said in a statement. “Any suggestion otherwise is false, and Warner Bros. Television intends to vigorously defend against these meritless claims.” The lawsuit alleges that the studio ended negotiations with the Crichton Estate for an “ER” sequel, then proceeded with the series, moving the setting from Chicago to Pittsburgh.
Comedian Nikki Glaser, whose profile rose with a memorable set on Netflix’s Tom Brady roast, will host the “82nd Annual Golden Globes,” set for Sunday, January 5 on CBS. “This is truly a dream job,” said Glaser. “Plus, I no longer have to feel guilty for every TV show and movie I’ve binged over the past year. It was all worth it. (‘Below Deck: Sailing Yacht’ season four will be nominated, right?).”
Seventy-eight percent of Hispanic Americans prefer streaming to traditional TV, citing the ability to watch at your own pace (82%), a wider range of content options (69%), and easier content discovery (62%) as primary reasons why. That’s according to a report from LG Ad Solutions, “The Inclusive Screen: Hispanic Americans.” Additional findings include:
· While 43% of Hispanic CTV users report family/friends as a top source to find new content, 37% point to specific app home screens and the TV screen homepages (33%) as top sources.
· Four in five Hispanic households watch a mix of Spanish and English language TV networks, with 7 in 10 Hispanic CTV Users preferring English content when it comes to TV and video.
· 69% of Hispanic CTV users prefer streaming free video content with ads instead of paying for a subscription without ads.
· After seeing a streaming TV ad, 41% of Hispanic CTV users reported searching online, and 40% visited a brand’s website.”
Hispanic audiences are increasingly turning to streaming platforms, not just for the breadth of content, but for the personalized, on-demand experience CTV offers,” said Monica Longoria, Head of Marketing Insights at LG Ad Solutions. “Our findings underscore the importance of culturally relevant content in CTV advertising.”

Sports fans assume that in general, traditional broadcast or cable networks can deliver sports better than individual streaming brands, according to a new report from Hub Entertainment Research. Surveyed for “What’s the Score: The Evolution of Sports Media,” 24% of respondents, given a list of nine options – “regular” cable and broadcast TV networks, plus eight major streaming platforms – said network TV would do the best job of delivering sports, more than twice as high as Amazon Prime (11%) and about 3x higher than brands like Hulu or Netflix. However, as a category, almost twice as many chose a streaming platform (59%) as those who chose network TV (24%). |

Streaming has its issues – 37% of avid sports fans said they “regularly” experience at least one of a list of technical issues while streaming sports, and 69% think it’s a hassle to use multiple providers to watch the same sport. And almost 59% say it’s gotten more difficult to find the sports they want to watch. “The reputation streaming brands have built delivering scripted TV has earned them goodwill when it comes to sports,” said Jon Giegengack, principal at Hub and one of the study’s authors. “But that goodwill doesn’t come without strings attached: network TV still benefits from the inertia of familiarity, one which individual streamers will need a longer track record to match. Plus, fans are already wary their sports will become more confusing to find – a problem which will be even more frustrating with live sports because it’s critical to find and watch them immediately.”

Snapchat launched its first native app for the iPad, thirteen years after launching on the iPhone. “Snapchat now offers native support for iPad,” states the App Store release. “This means that Snapchat will fill an iPad’s full screen, providing you with a larger canvas when capturing Snaps and allowing you to see more friends on the 2nd and 4th tabs.”
Apple has cut about 100 jobs across its digital services group, reports Bloomberg. The majority of those impacted were in the team that runs the Apple Books app and Apple Bookstore.
Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group is promoting the upcoming theatrical release of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” across the VIZIO platform with features including a new voice activation feature that incorporates a key line from the movie. By saying “Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice” into a VIZIO Voice Remote, viewers can launch a Movie Collection portal, which features an autoplay sound-on video preview of the film. VIZIO’s Smart TV audience can also click to watch the extended trailer or purchase opening weekend tickets.

Eight-time Super Bowl champion Bill Belichick heads to ESPN this NFL season through separate agreements with Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions and “The Pat McAfee Show.” Belichick will join “The Pat McAfee Show” on ESPN and ESPN+ and YouTube each Monday; be a featured guest for all 11 “Monday Night Football with Peyton and Eli” alternate telecasts (ESPN2 and ESPN+); and launch “The Breakdown with Peyton and Belichick” on Friday, September 6 on ESPN+.
ESPN has launched a feature to help sports fans find events. Found on its website and main app, ESPN’s “Where to Watch” guides users to sports event on and off the network’s platforms. “Simplifying discovery of sporting events and where a fan can watch has become increasingly important as sports viewing has become fragmented across networks and platforms,” said Brian Marshall, VP, Sports Product & Technology, Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology. “ESPN has always been the first stop for sports fans, and as we continue our evolution as the preeminent digital sports platform, we are proud to meet the needs of fans with new features to improve the discoverability of live sports and simplify their consumption journeys.”
Tennis fans will find the US Open on ESPN through 2037. The network signed a 12-year extension with the US Tennis Association that includes expanded streaming coverage. ABC will continue to air matches during the final Sunday of the two-week tournament, along with “Middle Sunday” matches.
