CBS News may well make a formal announcement today allowing it too now questions the authenticity of the papers questioning President Bush’s National Guard service record, according to today’s New York Times, and may well conduct an internal investigation to determine the step by step process by which the papers eventually made it to air. According to the Times, Dan Rather interviewed a former National Guard officer Bill Burkett, ver the weekend, reportedly the man who helped CBS News gain access to the documents. It is unclear if that interview led CBS to question whether these documents actually did come from the personal files of Colonel Killian, or if other new information has come to light. Alternatively, CBS may stand by the documents once a final review of all the pending information has been completed.
A new novela for Univision will premiere tonight at 8pm. Rubi (Ruby) is produced by Jose Alberto Castro and is about a woman’s search for true love and money, and, during that search she also finds betrayal. Rubi was filmed in Cancun, Mexico.
Casting / Production / Development
Lisa Kudrow is working on a pilot with producer Michael Patrick King for HBO called The Comeback, playing the role of a sitcom star who’s show has ended and now she’s trying to make a comeback.
HBO is also considering a dramatic project with Courtney Cox from director, and in this case producer/writer, Nick Cassavetes. This is also about an actress and recovering alcoholic attempting her big comeback.
Lifetime has unveiled its new movie initiative — scheduling an original movie every Monday night for the entire 2004-05 season. If you’re not sure of the math – that’s 52 original films in one year. Lifetime has a 2-year $800 million programming budget from which to draw, and to help soften the financial blow of 52 original films, the net pays on average $700,000 per title according to Variety, significantly less than the usual $2 million budget for a made-for. In addition to the now planned originals, the network has also accumulated several theatrical films, including The Hours, The Good Girl, and Love Actually.

Note: Because of Saturday morning’s storm taking out the electrics and cable at my house all weekend (electrics back on as of last night – cable still in limbo), today’s edition is being sent out via an AOL phone connection. That raises all sorts of problems including the one where AOL decides this is all spam and refuses to send anything. So, if you get today’s edition more than once, please know it is only because of emailing issues with AOL and my attempt to make sure you all get this, and not because you are on the list more than once. The good news is the cable company is coming today (anytime between 8am and 6pm) and once that happens, all of our ails here will be cured. At least the cable ones.
