Election 2012: After both the Republican National Convention in Tampa and the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte are now over, the ratings winner for both 2012 conventions is Fox News Channel.  FNC snagged a six-day total audience of 32 million total viewers during the 10p hour.  NBC followed next with 25 million total viewers.  Among the A25-54 demo, the networks switched places as NBC delivered 9.7 million to Fox News’ 8.52 million.  Among all networks, the six-night average among A25-54 ranked with NBC first at 1.94 million; FNC at 1.42 million; ABC averaged 1.32 million; CBS at 1.26 million; CNN with 1.15 million and MSNBC at 1.01 million.  Overall though, the DNC attracted a larger audience and more in the A25-54 demo.  The three nights of the DNC, despite one absent night from NBC for its NFL season opener, grossed 70.2 million total viewers and 24.5 million A25-54 viewers.  The RNC brought in 65.9 million total viewers and 21.2 million with A25-54.

This Saturday, family entertainment channel GMC TV serves up back-to-back episodes of the series Touched by an Angel as part of a Calling All Angels programming stunt this month.  Touched by an Angel will air this Saturday starting at 7p to 3a and then again on Sunday from 9a to 2a.  The series will then air in its regular time slot of weekdays at 7p and 8p.  Touched by an Angel originally ran for nine seasons starting in 1994 and starred Roma Downey as an angel named Monica and Della Reese as her supervisor Tess.  GMC’s programming stunt this month will also include episodes of 7th Heaven airing on weekdays at noon, 5p and 6p and also on Tuesdays from 9p to 11p.

DIRECTV’s Audience Network will debut a new series of documentary films in October presented in association with Brainstorm Media under the banner of Something to Talk About and airing exclusively on DIRECTV.  In some cities, the films will be screened in theaters starting in late September along with live discussions in some locations.  The 12-part series will begin with the broadcast premiere of Battle For Brooklyn on October 20 at 9p followed by Big Boys Gone Bananas on December 1 at 9p.  The films will also be available on DIRECTV on Demand, DIRECTV Everywhere on home video and also via electronic sell-thru.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Angela Bassett is attached to a new legal drama for NBC that is in early stages at the network.  Bassett will star and also serve as EP in the drama from writer Ben Ripley and EPs Deb Spera and Maria Grasso.  Sony Pictures Television is producing.

Prolific producer Shonda Rhimes and her Shondaland company sold a FBI drama, Under the Gun to NBC with a script commitment.  Peter Norwalk will write the script and be an EP with Rhimes and her Shondaland producing partner Betsy Beers under their overall deal at ABC Studios.  Under the Gun is about Erin Kain, a woman who goes to work for the FBI as she struggles to make sense of a past tragic event that ruined her life and broke her family apart.  Despite her young and fragile appearance, her dark past helps her get inside the minds of criminals who were normal one day and crazy the next.

NBC gave script orders to a comedy about a divorced father from Warren Lieberstein and writing partner Halsted Sullivan with Jon Favreau involved as producer.  The untitled project is being produced by Universal Television and is about a divorced father who has shared custody of his 5-year old daughter who moves into a building full of singles and has to now balance his dating life and parenthood.

Adam F. Goldberg, creator of the short-lived series Breaking In on FOX was handed a pilot production commitment from ABC for a single-camera comedy titled How the F— am I Normal.  The project is described as a dysfunctional Wonder Years set in the 1980s.  Goldberg will write the project produced by Sony Pictures Television and he will serve as EP along with Happy Madison’s Doug Robinson.  Seth Gordon is also on board as an EP and will also direct the pilot.

Also for ABC, a single-camera project that was on the docket during last season’s development slate is being revived.  Trophy Wife has been given a cast-contingent pilot order with ABC Studios producing.  The half-hour project is about a former party girl who finds she has an instant family when she falls in love with a man with three manipulative children and two difficult ex-wives.  Emily Halpern (Private Practice) and Sarah Haskins (SuperNews) are writing and serving as EPs; Lee Eisenberg (The Office) and Gene Stupnitsky additionally serve as EPs.  Halpern and Haskins have a two-year overall deal with ABC Studios.

FOX is moving ahead with a single-camera comedy from Mad About You creator Danny Jacobson titled Loveland.  The project is about a dysfunctional family that runs a Las Vegas wedding chapel.  Jacobson will write and be an EP on Loveland for Warner Bros. Television.  Tom Werner and Mike Clements of Werner Entertainment are also attached as EPs.
