ABC cancelled the second new series of the 2010-2011 television season as My Generation was removed from the schedule late last week. The drama featuring an ensemble cast of young people who attended the same suburban high school, tallied 5.17 million total viewers during premiere week then declined to 3.82 million for last Thursday’s broadcast. ABC has halted production on future episodes and there is no word on how ABC will fill My Generation’s time slot.

CNN announced it let anchor Rick Sanchez go on Friday after Sanchez said incendiary remarks about Jews and specifically Jon Stewart, host of Comedy Central’s Daily Show. Sanchez made these comments on Pete Dominick’s SiriusXM radio show on Thursday. CNN will rebroadcast CNN Newsroom in Sanchez’s 3-5p time period until further notice. CNN also released this statement: “Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.”

Adult Swim renewed the comedy series Children’s Hospital for a second season and production on fourteen new episodes will begin yet this year. The series debuted on Adult Swim in July and new episodes air Sunday nights at midnight. The ensemble cast includes Malin Akerman, Lake Bell, Erinn Hayes, Rob Huebel, Ken Marino, Megan Mullally and Henry Winkler. Rob Corddry created Children’s Hospital which is produced by Abominable Pictures and distributed by Warner Bros. Television.

Prolific television producer, Stephen J. Cannell died last Thursday at his home in Pasadena. Mr. Cannell was known as one of the most celebrated television writers/producers ever and either created solely or co-created nearly forty television shows. Some of the shows created by Mr. Cannell include The Rockford Files, The A Team, Wiseguy, The Commish and he was also behind Baretta, The Greatest American Hero, Hardcastle and McCormick and 21 Jump Street. Mr. Cannell was also a novelist. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marcia, three children and three grandchildren.

These eps will be produced in the UK by Manoto I and feature Iranian diners and will then be broadcast throughout Iran.

and on a personal note from Cannes …. For me, traveling to a foreign country where I speak only a word or two of the language, can be a little disconcerting. Not sure if I’ll be able to make myself understood, ending up with something entirely different than what I thought I asked for, or receiving that world renowned French look of disdain.  Cannes, however, is different.  There’s something very comforting and familiar about Cannes.  Certainly seeing so many of the same industry faces year after year helps, and they always seem to book the same place to stay every time – the same apartment, the same hotel and often enough the same hotel room.  But it’s goes so far beyond my fellow travelers.  It’s the Concierge at the hotel, the waiter in the restaurant, the wine shop owner, the florist down the street and the druggist at the pharmacy – all the same people year in and year out.  And somehow, miraculously, they always seem to remember me – well not my name, but my preferences.  The druggist who knows I’m back for allergy medicine (perhaps he remembers the game of Charades I engaged him in the first time my allergies ran amok in Cannes); the wine shop owner who remembers the particular vintage I prefer and always has a new suggestion, the florist who recalls I don’t like red flowers tho the yellows are gorgeous.  These little moments make Cannes the most wonderful city to visit.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & CARRIAGE ~

FOX took many of its cable channels and regional sports networks off of DISH Network last Friday as the midnight deadline passed without a new carriage agreement in place. FOX pulled FX, National Geographic Channel and 19 regional sports networks away from DISH subscribers. The impasse centers on rates with DISH saying FOX is asking for more than a 50% increase in carriage fees for the networks. FOX denies this claim. Apparently, no talks occurred between the two entities over the weekend.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

The famous DC comic book heroine Wonder Woman will be revamped for a new television series by Warner Bros. Television. David E. Kelley has been tagged to perhaps write and produce the new project featuring the Amazon princess superhero.

Peter MacNicol (Ally McBeal, Numb3rs, 24) landed a role on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy for a multiple episode run, reports TV Guide. MacNicol will play Dr. Stark, a pediatrics attending who will work closely with Alex (Justin Chambers).

Lifetime handed a pilot order for a medical drama about a female head of the psychiatric department at a university hospital based in Philadelphia, cites Variety. Michael Sardo executive produces the project along with Gerard Bocaccio for Universal Cable Productions.
