NYPD Blue co-creators and executive producers Steven Bochco and David Milch are working together again on a new untitled legal drama for NBC. The plot centers on a Washington, D.C. lawyer who has a dark secret and NBC gave the project a script order with a major penalty. Brian Grazer conceptualized the series and invited Bochco and Milch to be involved and they will write the story together as well as be executive producers. The project is produced by Imagine TV and 20th Century Fox Television. Grazer will also serve as executive producer along with Imagine TV’s Francie Calfo.
Brandon Jay McLaren, star of AMC’s The Killing, landed a multiple episode guest role on TNT’s Falling Skies. McLaren will play Sunhil Chutani, a handsome and harried mechanic who spent a fortune on an Ivy League engineering degree and was just a few days from launching an IPO when the aliens struck. This summer, TNT renewed The Killing for a 10-episode second season which returns next summer.
For its fifth and final season, Ryan Phillippe is taking on a major role in Damages playing a Julian Assange-type character who asks Ellen (Rose Byrne) for help. Damages, headlined by Glenn Close now airs on DirecTV and will debut the new fifth season next summer.
MTV continues its venture into scripted shows by handing a script order for a single-camera comedy about mean girls set in the workplace, reports THR. The untitled project is from Krosnoff Foster Productions and MTV. Lisa Parsons will be writer and executive producer and Russ Krasnoff joins as a non-writing executive producer.
Several projects are in the development queue for FX, per THR:
- Bunker centers on a female cop psychologist from Boston. Chernin Entertainment and Fox Television Studios are producing with author Dennis Lehane on board to write and as executive producer with Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope.
- Laredo has the Texas and Mexico border as its backdrop. William Broyles will serve as executive producer; Eric Lodal will write and also serve as executive producer. From FX Productions and Fox Television Studios.
- Scar Tissue is a drama loosely based on the autobiography of the same name penned by Anthony Kiedis, lead singer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. This project was previously developed at HBO and is from Catapult 360 and FX Productions. Mike Benson and Marc Abrams will executive produce through their Catapult 360 company with Kiedis, Untitled Entertainment’s Laura Rister and Jason Weinberg.
- The Americans is a Russian espionage drama set in the 1980s during the fall of the Soviet Union. DreamWorks Television is behind the project about Russian sleeper operatives working in the US. Graham Yost will produce. DreamWork’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey will executive produce in addition to Joe Weisberg who will also write.
