~ MORE GOOD STUFF ~

Returning sitcom Rules of Engagement moves to Thursday nights beginning October 20 at 830p on CBS coinciding with the series’ sixth season premiere.  Starting October 15, frosh comedy How To Be A Gentleman flips to Saturdays at 830p. CBS also announced it has halted production on further episodes of How To Be A Gentleman and the remaining seven episodes will air on Saturday nights sandwiched between repeats of Two and a Half Men and CSI: Miami.  In the meantime, an encore of The Big Bang Theory will air this Thursday at 830p following a new episode of the sitcom at 8p. 

The longest-running scripted show in television history, The Simpsons was renewed by FOX through season 25.  Currently in its 23rd season, The Simpsons will be back for a 24th and a 25th season totaling 559 episodes.  After the MLB American League Championship Series and World Series games, The Simpsons will resume on FOX with all-new episodes starting October 30 at 8p with a special Halloween episode.  The Simpsons is a Gracie Films Production in association with 20th Century Fox Television. 

Late last week, FOX also gave So You Think You Can Dance a ninth season renewal saying the dance competition show will return next summer.  FOX did not, though, indicate who will be part of the show’s judges panel. 

CEO Bob Iger will be staying with the Walt Disney Co. through June 2016 as part of the company’s succession planning process.  Iger’s title will be further enhanced next March when he also becomes Chairman following the retirement of present Chairman John E. Pepper.  Further, Disney has started planning for Iger’s replacement, establishing the timeframe as March 31, 2015 when a new CEO will be announced. 

Just prior to Halloween, Nat Geo WILD introduces viewers to swamp monsters and other ghoulish animal predators when Monster Bash Week opens October 24 through October 28.  Programs will air at 7p and 10p each night focusing on creepy, crawly animals and will culminate on October 30 and October 31 with a marathon of shows featuring more animal nightmares.  For a complete Nat Geo WILD programming guide, visit www.natgeowild.com .

As of today, Vme is re-launching its original series Pase VIP under the new name of Pase VIP de L’Oreal.  The show also is adding a new weekly feature called VIP Look presentado por L’Oreal where the show hosts present the latest trends in celebrity fashion on and off the red carpet. The weekly half-hour show airs on Mondays at 730p.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CLEARANCE & COVERAGE ~

A multi-year licensing deal was reached between Netflix Inc. and AMC Networks Inc. involving AMC’s original series The Walking Dead.  As of last Friday, season one of The Walking Dead will be available to Netflix members in the US and Canada.  Other seasons of The Walking Dead in addition to other future AMC and Sundance Channel shows will be available via instant streaming to Netflix members just before the premiere of the seasons.  Netflix also licensed non-exclusive rights in the US to specific scripted and unscripted shows which will be available just prior to the following season premiere.  This programming will come from AMC, IFC, Sundance Channel and WE tv and will include such series as IFC’s Portlandia and The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret; WE tv’s Braxton Family Values, My Fair Wedding and Bridezillas; and Sundance Channel’s All On the Line with Joe Zee and Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Former All My Children cast member Melissa Claire Egan (Annie Novak McDermott Lavery Chandler) is moving to another daytime soap, taking on a role with CBS’ The Young and the Restless.  Egan will play a mysterious woman named Chelsea who is connected to Billy’s arrest in Myanmar.  Egan’s contract role begins November 11.

Thursday A18-49 Analysis: FOX was in charge Thursday night at 4.0/11 with the A18-49 viewers, according to final national ratings from Nielsen.   At 8p, FOX’s The X-Factor won with a 3.7/11 while CBS’ comedies The Big Bang Theory and How to Be a Gentleman averaged a 3.5/11 in second place and Univision’s new Una Familia con Suerte was third at 2.0/6.  The second hour of The X-Factor kept FOX at #1 with a 4.2/11 during 9p and ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy was #2 at 3.1/6 and NBC’s comedies The Office and Whitney averaged a 2.8/7 in third place.  CBS had a turn on top at 10p as The Mentalist did best at 2.7/7 followed by ABC’s Private Practice at 2.1/5 and NBC’s Prime Suspect in third at 1.5/4.

Katreese Barnes, the former Emmy Award-winning Musical Director on NBC’s Saturday Night Live becomes Musical Director/Band Leader for The Rosie Show on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network when the new daily talk show opens tonight at 7p.  In her new role, Katreese will compose original music for The Rosie Show and lead a five-person band. 

Christopher Cassel launched his own production company, Castle Pictures, Inc. in New York and will serve as President/Creative Director.  Previously, Christopher was showrunner, director and writer for Manhattan-based KPI for thirteen years.  Most recently, Christopher worked with executive producer Steven Spielberg as supervising producer/writer on the six-hour miniseries, Rising, Rebuilding Ground Zero that aired on Discovery Channel and Science.
