FOX revealed the two-hour finale for series Fringe in its fifth and final season will conclude on January 18 at 8p-10p. This will also mark the series’ 100th episode. Fringe is from co-creator and executive producer J.J. Abrams who created the series with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. Fringe is produced by Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
In other news from FOX, the network has cut its episode order for midseason comedy, The Goodwin Games nearly in half. Citing a lack of room on its schedule, FOX trimmed the original 13-episode order to seven episodes. Recently, FOX upped the episode orders for its other sitcoms Raising Hope, New Girl and The Mindy Project all to 24 eps while the first season comedy Ben and Kate was approved for 19 eps.
All day today, the Disney/ABC Television Group will host a Day of Giving to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy with donations going to the American Red Cross. The call-to-action event will include network and syndicated programming over various dayparts including News, Daytime, Primetime and Late-Night. Good Morning America will kick off the Day of Giving by dedicating the full 8a hour to raising money for Sandy relief efforts. Other network and syndicated programming participating in the Day of Giving includes LIVE with Kelly and Michael, The View, The Chew, General Hospital, Katie, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, plus ABC Owned Stations and local ABC affiliates will integrate Day of Giving messaging into their local news throughout the day, in addition to World News with Diane Sawyer, Dancing with the Stars and Nightline along with cable networks ABC Family and SOAPnet as well as Radio Disney, Disney Stores and DisneyStore.com.
This Wednesday, Syfy bows the half-hour reality series, Deals from the Darkside at 10p. The series goes inside the world of eccentric collector, Steve Santini and his desire to expand his collection of bizarre treasures, many of which are on loan to the National Museum of Crime and Punishment in Washington, DC. Santini’s items include an executioner’s sword, a deck chair from the Titanic and a piece of the Hindenburg. The series follows Santini, his partner, Robert “Biker Rob” Diguay and researcher Stef Proctor as they travel the world to call on experts to prove that the artifacts are or are not what they’re claimed to be. The series will also explore Santini’s other passion, escapology as he has been called the world’s most extreme escape artist by Ripley’s Believe It or Not. Syfy acquired the 13-episode reality series from CABLEready. Starting this Wednesday, two original episodes of Deals from the Darkside, produced by Buck Productions, will air on Syfy back-to-back.
A new docu-series, Salvage Dawgs will debut on DIY Network this Thursday at 11p. The series follows architectural salvage business owners, Robert Kulp and Mike Whiteside as they reclaim vintage elements from historic buildings and resell them to be used in home renovation projects. Also this Sunday, DIY Network premieres Building Alaska at 10p which follows hunting expert Bob May and his family as they attempt to build the perfect hunting lodge in the wilds of Alaska.
On the heels of canceling its cop drama Common Law, USA Network has canceled another series, Fairly Legal. The second season of Fairly Legal debuted with 3.5 million total viewers on March 16 though declined to just under 2.5 million viewers by the end of the run. USA also has decided to not move forward with an additional order for Political Animals. The limited series event starring Sigourney Weaver from Greg Berlanti and Laurence Mark was originally ordered straight to series with the option for a potential additional order. The planned six-episode miniseries debuted in mid-July with 2.6 million total viewers with the finale attracting 2.3 million.
Later this month, Discovery Channel will air Super Storm (wt), a program detailing the formation of Hurricane Sandy as part of the network’s CURIOSITY series in the US on November 18 at 9p. The program will also air across Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Latin America. Super Storm (wt) follows the storm’s action hour-by-hour from its origins in the Caribbean through its path in Cuba to the devastation across the East Coast of the US. Super Storm (wt) is produced by Darlow Smithson Productions for Discovery Channel.
TLC predicts a fourth season is in store for its reality series Long Island Medium which just concluded its third season on Sunday. The series follows Long Island mom Theresa Caputo who also possesses the ability to connect with the dead. TLC ordered 30 half-hour episodes for season four set to premiere in March 2013. Long Island Medium is produced by Magilla Entertainment for TLC.
Effective immediately, AKQA was named the lead digital agency by Anheuser-Busch for its Budweiser, Bud Light and Stella Artois brands. AKQA will take over the task of creating digital extensions for the brand’s marketing campaigns encompassing online and mobile programs, content creation, new partnerships and app development. AKQA will also work closely with the current marketing agencies of record, Budweiser’s Anomaly, Bud Light’s Translation and Stella Artois’ Mother.

New independent 24-hour global network, beIN SPORT which airs live and exclusive coverage of world soccer and international sports, will be carried by Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks. Both TWC and Bright House will offer the network in English and a separate network in Spanish via TV and on-demand.
Chello Zone, a subsidiary of Liberty Global Inc’s international media division, Chellomedia has launched the hi-def version of Outdoor Channel in the African territories of Angola and Mozambique on ZAP. Additionally, the children’s channel JimJam also is debuting on ZAP in these same countries. Both are premiering on the DTH platform ZAP and this is the first time Outdoor Channel is available in these two territories.
Diablo Cody (Juno, United States of Tara) sold a comedy to ABC titled Alex + Amy produced by Warner Bros. Television and Amblin TV. The project is a romantic comedy about a millennial guy and a Gen X woman in love. ABC handed the project a script plus penalty order. Cody will serve as EP along with her manager, Mason Novick and Amblin TV’s Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank who both produced United States of Tara when the company was known as DreamWorks TV.
USA’s new one-hour drama, Graceland has commenced production in Fort Lauderdale, FL under the helm of executive producer and White Collar creator, Jeff Eastin. The series will have 11 episodes in addition to the completed pilot. Graceland stars Daniel Sunjata (Rescue Me) and Aaron Tveit (Les Miserables) and will premiere next summer on USA. Fox Television Studios is producing; Sean Daniel is also serving as EP on the pilot with Russell Fine directing.
Four-time Olympic gold medalist, Greg Louganis will become a judge on ABC’s upcoming 2013 reality diving competition show based on the international format, Celebrity Splash produced by Eyeworks USA (formerly 3 Ball Productions). The series will feature celebrities performing dives escalating in difficulty each week. A professional diving instructor will train each celebrity for several weeks leading up to the competition. Louganis will be one of three judges who will rate the dives.
Discovery Channel tapped actor/producer/civil servant Kal Penn to be host of its new competition series, The Big Brain Theory. Penn has starred in the film franchise Harold & Kumar and also worked in the White House. The series will premiere in the spring of 2013 and is produced by Pilgrim Studios for Discovery.
Content Media Corporation (CMC) under CEO John Schmidt and Content Film’s Jamie Carmichael forged a deal to establish a new film, television and digital production and development company in partnership with Preferred Content (PC) Founders Ross M. Dinerstein and Kevin Iwashina. The new company is titled Preferred Film & TV (PFT) and will be a joint venture between CMC and PC. Dinerstein and Iwashina will together oversee daily operations and work closely with Carmichael. PFT is charged with producing content across all genres and will work with both established and emerging filmmakers.

Thursday A18-49 Analysis: ABC won Thursday night at 3.8/10 among A18-49, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. CBS had the opening win of the night as The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men delivered an averaged 4.4/13 during 8p while ABC’s CMA Awards presentation was next at 3.5/10. At 9p, ABC’s CMA Awards did best with a 4.1/10 and CBS slipped back to second place with Person of Interest at 2.9/7. ABC polished off the final win at 10p as the CMA Awards held steady at 4.0/11 and CBS’ Elementary was second at 2.4/6.

Starz, LLC appointed Dave Baldwin as EVP/Program Planning for Starz Entertainment. In his new role, Dave will head all programming planning and research functions in support of the company’s 17 linear channels and companion on-demand and online assets. Based in New York City, Dave will report to Chris Albrecht, CEO, Starz, LLC. Dave will further handle many of the duties of EVP/Programming Stephan Shelanski, who will be departing at the end of this year. Dave joins Starz Entertainment after serving 31 years in research and scheduling at Home Box Office where he was most recently EVP/Program Planning.
San Francisco-based Indigo Films named Rosemary Wall to the newly-minted role as EVP to manage creative projects, current programming and development as well as corporate operations. Additionally, former executive producer at Optomen Productions, Dana Ross also joins as Senior Supervising Producer to oversee current productions for NatGeo WILD, Investigation Discovery and BIO Channel.
National Geographic Channel (NGC) added Brooke Runnette as VP/Development and Special Projects to develop series and event specials for NGC. Brooke will be based at the network’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. and will report to Noel Siegel, SVP/Production and Development. Prior to this appointment, Brooke was with Discovery Channel where she was Executive Producer/Director of Development for Specials including Shark Week.
Greg Anthony is joining YES Network as a Brooklyn Nets Game Analyst. Greg joins YES play-by-ply man Ian Eagle and begins his new job with the Nets tonight when the Nets host the Timberwolves at 730p.
