A whole lot more people saw programs that aired during the broadcast nets’ premiere week than initial numbers indicated. CBS reports that with 30-day multi-platform playback counts in, the 7.4 million viewers for Hostages recorded in fast nationals swelled to 15.5 million with 30-day playback, up 110 percent. Elementary gained 57 percent, to 16 million viewers, and The Big Bang Theory jumped 38 percent, to 26.1 million. Freshman comedy The Crazy Ones increased to 23.5 million viewers, a 52 percent bump.

~ IN THE NEWS ~

ABC gave a thumbs up – with full-season orders – to The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife, issuing a less hearty order of four more episodes to Super Fun Night. Back In the Game has not been picked up, but will finish out the remainder of its 13 episodes. Goldbergs, Fun and Game all scored a 1.7 rating in A18-49 last week, but Goldbergs was the only show to build on its lead-in. Wife earned a 1.4 in the demo but is the only show owned by the network.

JFK: Inside the Evidence premieres on Reelzchannel tonight. The doc, hosted by journalist Bill Kurtis, examines evidence presented in JFK: The Smoking Gun, which premiered last night and airs again tonight at 7p, that suggests President Kennedy died from a bullet accidentally shot from a Secret Service agent’s gun. On Tuesday, November 5, Killing JFK 50 Questions Answered debuts at 7p. “The story of the Kennedys is in Reelz’s DNA,” says net CEO Stan Hubbard. “Viewers look to us for Kennedy programming.”

Mythbusters hosts Grant Imahara and Tory Bellici were at the Los Angeles International Airport when a gunman opened fire on Friday, confirmed Discovery Channel. “Grant and Tory are safe and being rerouted,” said the net in a statement Friday afternoon. “Our thoughts are with all those affected by today’s tragedy and our gratitude goes out to the members of the LAPD, Airport Police, TSA, and Virgin America staff.” Bachelor host Chris Harrison was also on the scene, and Mad Men was filming in a nearby terminal.

Lifetime canceled Sony Pictures Television drama The Client List after two seasons. Although there were reports that tension over star Jennifer Love Hewitt‘s storyline hastened the axe, ratings didn’t help  the season two finale drew 2 million viewers, down from 2.7 million for season one.

History Channel and Rockwell Tools launched a new integrated marketing campaign, “Rock Your Garage,” across social and digital platforms that will also include retail promotions in Lowe’s stores. The centerpiece of the campaign: a sweepstakes, running through January 31, tied to the net’s Counting Cars marathon airing Friday, December 6. Prizes include a restored hot rod, a set of Rockwell tools and a $500 Lowe’s gift card.

Sprinkles Cupcakes is teaming with CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls, about aspiring cupcake mavens, for November 10’s National Vanilla Cupcake Day (yes, there is such a thing). From November 1-15, Sprinkles is offering 2 Broke Not So Vanilla cupcakes. “We liked the idea of putting a Broke twist on National Vanilla Cupcake Day,” said Lisa Gregorian, Chief Marketing Officer, Warner Bros. Television Group. Broke airs Mondays at 8:30p.

In the wake of a report by Al Jazeera America claiming that California State Senator Ron Calderon took tens of thousands of dollars from undercover FBI agents after assuring them he could arrange adjustments to the state’s Film and TV tax credit program, Calderon has been yanked from the California Film Commission, “If for no other reason, the appearance of impropriety,” said President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg.

Fox International Channels launches Spanish-language lifestyle net FOX Life today, transitioning Utilisima to the brand. “Our goal is to unify and leverage the best lifestyle content,” said FIC Latin America president Carlos Martinez, “and grow Fox’s international recognition even more.”

~ COMING UP ~

Crossover alert: Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will continue the story told in Marvel/Disney movie Thor: The Dark World, opening November 8. “In the aftermath of the events chronicled in the feature film,” said Marvel, “Coulson and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. pick up the pieces.” Episode airs Tuesday, November 19.

More crossover news: Michael Trevino tells EW his Vampire Diaries character, Tyler, will be the first to visit his CW show’s spin-off, The Originals, “sometime soon.’ Diaries airs Thursdays at 8p; Originals airs Tuesdays at 8p.

There’s going to be a Love Boat (1977-1986) reunion on CBS daytime chatfest The Talk. Gavin MacLeod, Bernie Kopell, Fred Grandy, Ted Lange, Lauren Tewes and Jill Whelan will reminisce about their Pacific Princess days on Tuesday, November 5 at 2p.

CMT‘s upcoming Reel Eats blends movies, recipes and interviews with country artists. Hosted by Allison DeMarcus, the bi-weekly series debuts Tuesday, November 12 at 8p.

ABC‘s Shark Tank will make its off-network debut on January 7, 2014 on CNBC, airing Tuesdays at 8p and 9p. The news net also announced that season two of entrepreneur-focused reality show Profit will return on Tuesday, January 21, to wrap up the lineup at 10p.

Alaska has proven fertile territory for Discovery Channel (Gold Rush, Yukon Men, Flying Wild Alaska). Now the net is venturing to the territory’s remote Kodiak Island, for a four-part series exploring the struggle for survival in harsh wilderness. Four-parter Kodiak, from Orion Entertainment and Discovery Studios, is set for a 2014 premiere.

Walk this way: Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler will judge would-be beauty queens strutting their stuff in the Miss Universe pageant. Tyler, who served as a judge on seasons 10 and 11 of American Idol, joins Carol Alt, Tara Lipinski and other judges for the competition in Moscow, airing on NBC Saturday, November 9 at 9p.

Wendy Williams has been tapped for red carpet duty at the Soul Train Awards. The music event takes place on November 8, for a Sunday, December 1 broadcast at 8p on BET.

Shane West (Nikita) has been cast in WGN America‘s witch trial drama Salem. The 13-episode Fox 21 production is set for a spring, 2014 bow.

Jane Krakowski (30 Rock) and Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network) will guest on episode 11 of ABC‘s Modern Family. Comedy airs Wednesdays at 9p.

 

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT~

FX Productions closed a first-look TV deal with Sacha Baron Cohen‘s production company, Four By Two. FXX ordered Ali G: Rezurection, for an early 2014 debut, which will include all eps of Da Ali G Show, launched in the U.K. in 2003, with new introductions from Baron Cohen. 

The CW has given a script-to-series commitment for Irish mob drama The Cover, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The project about an undercover FBI agent comes from Matt Michnovetz (24).

A comedy about what happens to the friendship of two male friends when one undergoes gender reassignment has landed at ABC, based on the lives of writers Joshua Sternin and Jennifer (nee Jeffrey) Ventimilia, reports Deadline. Di Bonaventura TV is producing.

~ RATINGS ~

With an assist from Charlie Brown Thursday, ABC won the opening night of November Sweeps for the first time since 2007 in the A18-49 demo. Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy were the top two shows of the night. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown delivered ABC’s best numbers in the time period in a year, though it down was almost 20 percent versus its 2012 airing.

ABC‘s Shark Tank was once again the number one show on Friday night in A18-49, posting 1.9/6. At 8p, the net’s Last Man Standing drew 1.4/5 in the demo, up one tenth, equaling its highest rating this season.

NBC got off to a weak start Friday, according to early numbers, with special Why We (Heart) Vampires posting .7 in A18-49. Grimm dropped three tenths from its premiere to earn a 1.5 in the demo, and Dracula lost half a point, earning a 1.3.

GMA won its first Halloween ever in total viewers, with 5.4 million, and the best in A25-54 since 1991 (2.2 million).

CW‘s The Carries Diaries held onto its premiere number in A18-49 (.3) on Friday night, with America’s Top Model posting another .4.

Thursday A18-49 Analysis: ABC grabbed the most A18-49 viewers Thursday with 2.6/8, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. CBS won the 8p hour with a 2.4/8 average for a Big Bang Theory repeat and The Millers, with ABC scaring up a 2.2/8 for its Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown special. ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy pulled into first at 9p scoring 2.6/8, versus a 2.0/6 average for CBS’s The Crazy Ones and another Big Bang rerun. ABC widened its lead at 10p, with 2.9/9 for Scandal, trailed by 1.8 for CBS’s Elementary.
