Cynopsis: Kids!

11/26/07

Good morning. It’s Monday, November 26, 2007, and this is your first early morning.

Sorpresa network, the Spanish-language kid’s network that is part of Juniper Content Corporation, plans to re-brand its TV network and digital community in early 2008.  With the new look comes a new tag line, El Mundo que Imaginas, or in English, The World You Imagine.  According to the network’s research with K6-11, who report watching Spanish-language TV with their families, the new messaging reflects kid’s desire to be connected to their world, while also supporting their parents desire for their kids to maintain Spanish language skills.  The re-brand will coincide with Sorpresa’s new programming effort, and is being helmed by the creative agency Bonsai3.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Disney Channel Worldwide’s Global Original Programming division inks deals with Coolabi and Blue-Zoo Productions to develop two new kid’s series in the UK:

  • The Shaila Show (working title) is a live-action/animated comedy from Coolabi that revolves around Shaila, a girl who problem solves in her “alternate reality”, where Shaila hosts her own talk show.
  • From Blue-Zoo Productions is Clever Clogs (working title), a tween-targeted animated comedy that follows the adventures of Milly, a normal girl in a very abnormal family.  The series is penned by Bob Baker (Wallis and Gromit) and directed by Oliver Hyatt.

Lending their voices to Disney and Bruckheimer Films’ previously announced combo live-action and CG animated movie version of G-Force are actors Nicolas Cage, Steve Buscemi and Tracy Morgan, per The Hollywood Reporter.  Additionally, on the live action side the action/adventure/comedy stars Will Arnett and Bill Nighy have also been signed.  Also featured in G-Force are Zach Galifianakis, Jack Conley, Kelli Garner and Gabriel Casseus.  Making his feature film directed debut is Hoyt Yeatman, best known as a visual effects maestro who work includes everything from ET, Gremlins and Mighty Joe Young (1998) and more recently Sky High and Underdog.  Currently in production, G-Force is slated for release in May 2009.

Warner Bros. Japan has begun production on a live-action version of the manga Subaru.  The co-Japanese and Chinese movie is based on Masahito Soda’s Subaru, a multi-part manga series, which follows the adventures of a would-be ballerina and her brother.  The movie is slated for release across Asia in 2009, with plans for the US unclear as of now.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Parthenon Entertainment has inked a deal with Germany’s ARD for the first season of the kid’s BBC drama Roman Mysteries (10×30 HD), with an option for the second.  Scheduled to launch in Germany in 2008, Roman Mysteries will air on ARD on Saturday and Sunday mornings, as well as on KI.KA, co-owned by ARD and ZDF, on Saturday afternoon.  A BBC commission, Roman Mysteries is produced by the UK’s The Little Entertainment Group.  The agreement was brokered by Telepool GMbH.
