Katie Couric is preparing to leave ABC News. Couric was named a special correspondent there as part of the deal with ABC’s syndicated programming unit to produce her daytime talk show, Katie, now in its second season. After getting limited exposure on the net, Couric is working on a deal to move to Yahoo, which has a news partnership with ABC – and where she already hosts news blog Katie’s Take. The future of Katie is uncertain. The show is averaging 2.2 million viewers, down eight percent from last season.
According to Bloomberg sources, Comcast Corp. and Charter Communications “have discussed a joint bid to buy Time Warner Cable and divvy up its customers,” with each company tacking on TWC users near regions they already serve. A split deal could give a boost to both companies, as well as reduce their risk in the venture. The report describes talks as preliminary, and one among several options.
Fox announced changes to its winter premiere schedule. The Following returns for its second season Sunday, January 19 at 10p, following the NFC Championship game. The next night, another episode of The Following follows the season finale of Sleepy Hollow airing at a special time, 8p. Legal drama Rake, originally scheduled for the post-NFC game slot, premieres instead on Thursday, January 23 at 9p.
Tuesday nights are getting a makeover on Fox, too. The week after The Mindy Project airs its winter finale on January 28 at 9:30p, Brooklyn Nine-Nine slides into the 9:30p slot, after New Girl at 9p. Glee returns with new episodes, moving to Tuesdays at 8p on February 25, replacing Dads (nowhere to be found after February 11, despite a full-season order) and the relocated Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The Mindy Project returns with back-to-back new episodes Tuesday, April 1, then is back in its 9:30p slot the following week.
Good Morning America‘s Amy Robach plans to return to the air on Monday, December 2. The corresponded underwent a bilateral mastectomy after a televised mammogram to raise awareness about testing revealed a tumor. The surgery exposed a second malignant tumor, but “My prognosis is good,” Robach said in a message to co-workers, “and I couldn’t be more excited to get back to work.”
EPIX and joint venture partner Paramount Pictures launched a nationwide search for the next Ron Burgundy,ahead of the release of Paramount’s Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. Contestants upload an audition on http://www.iamronburgundy.com; the winner will have the opportunity to act as anchor for EPIX at the movie’s NYC premiere on December 15.
Another Anchorman 2 publicity stunt: Ron Burgundy/Will Ferrell is joining Canadian cable sports channel TSN. “This is going to end terribly,” said”Burgundy” in a statement.
The Directors Guild of America and The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers didn’t have too much trouble negotiating a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract. Negotiations began November 4.
FX is preempting Sons of Anarchy on Tuesday, November 26 “due to the holiday week.” The outlaw motorcycle drama returns December 3 at 10p; season six finale airs December 10 from 10p-11:50p.
The Television Academy elected Rob Swartz to serve as Secretary for a two-year term. Swartz is president of Venn Media.

ABC is showing the love for upcoming The Bachelor. Sunday-at-8p specials will precede the dating competition’s Monday airings, starting the night before Juan Pablo‘s January 8 debut as Bachelor number eighteen, with The Bachelor: Countdown to Juan Pablo. Sunday, January 12 brings The Bachelor: Behind the Scenes, and the 19th brings The Bachelor: Bachelor Love Stories. Icing on the cake? The Bachelor: Sean and Catherine’s Wedding, airs live on Sunday, January 26.
Internet sensations-turned-reality-TV-stars Golden Sisters share their irreverent reflections on the most talked-about stories of the year on OWN‘s Golden Sisters 2013 Countdown: Best Pop Culture Moments. The LMNO Cable Group production airs Friday, December 27 at 10p.
AXS TV ordered a second season of Tom Green Live, to launch Thursday, January 9 at 9p. The interview series is part of AXS TV’s Thursday night “Seriously. Funny. Comedy.” block.
When H2‘s America Unearthed returns with forensic geologist Scott Wolter, the show from Committee Films will incorporate mysteries submitted by viewers. The premiere of season two of the net’s number one original series, averaging 824,000 total viewers, is Saturday, November 30 at 9p.
Nickelodeon greenlit Instant Mom for a second season, and added six more episodes to season one. The family comedy has averaged 1.2 million total viewers since its September 29 premiere Sundays at 8:30p on Nick at Nite, and its launch on Nick Jr.‘s NickMom comedy block was the block’s highest-rated premiere in W18-49 and total viewers.
Witches of East End was renewed for a second go-round on Lifetime. The Fox 21 production, one of the net’s youngest-skewing scripted series with a median age of 46, is averaging 3.0 million total viewers and 1.7 million A25-54. Season one finale is Sunday, December 15 at 10p.
Adam Devine’s House Party will return for a second season on Comedy Central with eight more eps in 2014. The stand-up comedy focused show from Avalon Television airs Thursdays at 12:30a.
Executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson has been added to the cast of Starz drama Power, in the recurring role ofa friend to a wealthy New York nightclub owner. The CBS Television Studios drama is currently in production for a 2014 debut.
Aasif Mandvi (The Daily Show) has been cast in HBO dark comedy pilot The Brink, reports Deadline. Project stars Jack Black and Tim Robbins.
Michelle Forbes (The Killing) will guest on Fox‘s upcoming Rake, reports The Wrap. The series stars Greg Kinnear as a criminal defense lawyer.
Beth Riesgraf (Leverage) has been cast in USA drama Complications, says the Hollywood Reporter. Also added to the Fox Television Studios project, starring Jason O’Mara (Terra Nova), are Jessica Szohr (Gossip Girl) and Lauren Stamile (Burn Notice).

Reality pioneer Mike Darnell, president of unscripted and reality programming at Warner Bros. TV, has a haunted house-themed reality project at ABC, says the Hollywood Reporter. Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity) will exec produce through Blumhouse Prods for Warner Horizon Television.
ABC bought a spec script for Iman & Andy from Electus, Whoopi Goldberg and Principato Young, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The comedy focuses on an interracial couple pressured into talking about their relationship in a vlog for the online magazine where they both work.
HR also broke the news of a series in development at HBO from writer Diablo Cody (Juno) based on Dr. Julie Holland’s upcoming book, Moody Bitches. Cody will exec produce the comedy with Oprah Winfrey and Harpo Films.
The Doctor Who 50th anniversary event, The Day of the Doctor, drew 10.2 million viewers to the BBC on Saturday. The prior BBC show, reality competition Strictly Come Dancing, reached 11.7 million.
Spain’s streaming service Wuaki.tv announced it will offer all five seasons of Breaking Bad on demand to subscribers of Wuaki.tv Selection. It’s the first time every season of a show has been available at the same time in the country.
On week number two of Fox‘s revamped Friday night, Bones saw a three tenths of a point hike in the A18-49 demo, for a 1.5 rating, according to Nielsen fast nationals, but was still down from the 2.0 rating it scored on its final Monday showing. Raising Hope‘s back-to-back eps were each up one tenth, to .9 and .8.
The fourth season premiere of The CW‘s Nikita Friday night dropped 33 percent from its season three bow, to a premiere lowof .2/1 among A18-49. In total viewers the thriller fell to 732,000 from 947,000.
Friday night’s fast nationals report that ABC‘s 20/20 jumping three tenths of a point week to week to tie its season high in A18-49, 1.6/6. The Neighbors and Shark Tank each got a one tenth bump.
On NBC Thursday night, an hour block of Parks and Recreation was down one tenth from last week to a 1.0/3, a series low, and the net’s Sean Saves the World and The Michael J. Fox Show remained at last week’s .9/2. That opened the door for CW to squeak by NBC in the demo from 8p-10p for the first time ever with regular series, notching 1.3/4 for Vampire Diaries and .7/2 for Reign.
The 14th Annual Latin Grammy Awards delivered an average audience of 4.6 million total viewers and 2.4 million among A18-49, ranking it third for the night on Thursday in the demo. Nielsen reports it was the top broadcast station among A18-49 in Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Phoenix and Sacramento.
Thursday A18-49 Analysis: CBS grabbed the most A18-49 viewers Thursday with 2.7/8, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. CBS won the 8p hour with a 4.1/12 average for Big Bang Theory and The Millers, with Univision’s Latin Grammy Awards coming in second with 1.9/6. ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy took the hour 9p with 2.6/7, versus a 2.2/6 average for CBS’s The Crazy Ones and Two and a Half Men. ABC continued in the lead at 10p, with 2.9/8 for Scandal, followed by 1.8/5 for CBS’s Elementary.
