After much delay, NBC will debut its anthology dramedy series, Love Bites on June 2 at 10p.  The series, starring Becki Newton will air this summer in the Thursday at 10p time period.

Prince William and Catherine Middleton’s Royal Wedding in London last Friday was covered live by a slew of networks here in the US.  Nielsen reports eleven networks including ABC, CBS, NBC, Telemundo, Univision, BBC America, CNN, E!, FOX News Channel, MSNBC and TLC carried live coverage from approximately 6a to 715a and the sum of the average audience was 22.8 million viewers.  In comparison, though, the coverage of Princess Diana’s funeral in September 1997 was watched by 33.2 million in the US.  Taking a snapshot of the morning news programs from 7-9a, NBC’s Today did best, according to fast national results from Nielsen, with more than 9.6 million total viewers; ABC’s Good Morning America tallied 8.7 million total viewers; while CBS’ The Early Show recorded 3.9 million total viewers.  There was much additional buzz about the royal nuptials online and E! Online said it broke its own single day record for most page views last Friday with 23.6 million.  E! Online offered full coverage and live streaming of the Royal Wedding.  The site also attracted the second highest number of visitors at 1.5 million and visits at 1.9 million.

New spinoff investigative series, The First 48: Missing Persons opens on A&E Network June 2 at 10p.  The new series, a spinoff of A&E’s The First 48, follows the Chicago Police Department’s missing persons division during the crucial first 48 hours searching for a missing person.  The hour-long series is produced by Found Films, LLC for A&E. 

A new reality competition show searching for the next talent to star on FOX’s Glee series launches on Oxygen when The Glee Project premieres June 12 at 9p.  The Glee Project is from Glee’s creator Ryan Murphy and executive producer Dante Di Loreto and follows 12 talented performers as they compete to win a seven-episode guest starring role on Glee.  The 10-episode competition series is produced by Ryan Murphy Television and Embassy Row.

Thursday A18-49 Analysis:  FOX paced ahead of the competition Thursday night at 4.2/12 among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen.  At 8p, American Idol on FOX beat the rest at 5.7/17 with CBS’ comedies The Big Bang Theory and Rules of Engagement averaging a second place showing at 2.8/9.  NBC’s supersized The Office episode during 9p topped with a 4.2/11 followed by ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy at 3.7/9.  Then at 10p, it was CBS’ turn to win with The Mentalist at 2.6/7 and ABC’s Private Practice posted a 2.2/6 in #2.

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~

CNBC’s anchor Erin Burnett is moving to CNN Worldwide to become Anchor/Chief Business and Economics Correspondent.  Starting in June, Erin will anchor a weekday general news program and will be a contributor for CNN’s national and international breaking news events in addition to contributing to CNN.com.  Erin will be based at CNN’s New York headquarters.  

CBS News’ Face the Nation promoted Mary Hager to Executive Producer up from Senior Producer, a position she has held for two years.  Mary started her career at CBS News in 1991.

Todd D. Hansen named COO with Sportsman Channel.  Todd was a co-founder of Sportsman Channel in 2003 and since has been the network’s SVP/CMO.  In his expanded role, Todd will supervise operations, new revenue and growth opportunities in addition to overseeing resource allocation, Corporate Communications and Digital Media.  Todd reports to Gavin Harvey, CEO.

WNET New York Public Media said Laura Savini will no longer be the VP/Marketing and Communications at WLIW21. Instead, Laura is establishing a new company, Untamed Hair Productions & Consulting.  Laura is a well-known fixture on the public television station for more than twenty years and she will continue as an on-air host at WLIW21.
