World-famous mentalist Keith Barry stars in a new Discovery Channel series, Deception with Keith Barry. The network will air a sneak peak of the four-episode series on May 31 at 10p with the series settling into its regular time slot of Wednesdays at 10p starting June 1. The Lizard Trading Company and Discovery Studios are behind the series for Discovery Channel.
A fourth season of TLC’s series Toddlers and Tiaras debuts June 15 at 10p. The new season opens as two tiny pageant contestants vie for the crown of Texas-based Universal Royalty Pageant. TLC ordered 18 one-hour episodes produced by Authentic Entertainment. A week later, TLC bows a fourth new season of I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant offering more shocking stories of women who did not realize they were pregnant until they went into labor. TLC serves up 25 half-hour episodes of I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant from Mike Mathis Productions.

US Spanish network, Vme hosted its upfront event last Thursday at the Samsung Experience in New York’s Time Warner Center.
Vme’s programming lineup includes weekly strip shows targeting the bilingual and bicultural young Hispanic consumer:
- E3 – New original show premiering July 18, offering up-to-date entertainment news and Hollywood headliners. Roser Cabanas hosts.
- Nota Musical – The network returns this original show for another season hosted by Ceceliz and OZ, bringing the latest news and top artists from the world of music.
- En Pantalla – Hosted by Keyla Medina, this show highlights movies from Hollywood blockbusters to independent films, offers exclusive interviews and movie and DVD releases and premieres.
- Game40 – Weekly interactive show geared toward gamers in partnership with 40 Principales with new releases in the video game market. Series premieres later this year.
- Cliptomanicas – Presented by Red Bull, this original extreme sports show is hosted by professional extreme athletes who present and live the sports. Each week’s episode showcases a different stunt from various locations about the world.
Vme also offers two new dramas:
- Piratas – Set in 18th century Spain, this drama is about the misadventures of a philandering member of the nobility who is forced to infiltrate the pirate crew under Captain Bocanegra. The drama offers beautiful ships, sword fights, dungeons, executions, rescues, battles, treasure and more.
- Los Kennedy – The eight-part miniseries originally created by HISTORY, documenting the Kennedy family from the 1930s to 1968 will air on Vme starring Greg Kinnear, Katie Holmes, Barry Pepper and Tom Wilkinson.
Returning scripted drama series on Vme include: Africa de mi Corazon; Cuentame Como Paso; and Comisario Rex. Vme further is renewing Alerta Cobra for a new season soon after it premiered in April; and primetime drama Aguila Roja is back for another season on Vme.
Vme can be found in 40+ markets in the US and is available free over-the-air and via basic digital cable. Vme is also carried nationally through satellite providers such as Dish Network, DirecTV, Verizon FiOS and AT&T U-verse on their basic and Hispanic package.
Distributor Peter Rodgers Organization (PRO) reupped its exclusive representation for The Fremantle Company’s library in North America containing such classics as The Adventures of the Swiss Family Robinson, The Adventures of Black Beauty, hundreds of hours of programming previously owned by Passport Pictures and more than 75 feature films. Additionally, PRO recently finalized its acquisition of digital broadcast rights for the series, The Saint starring Roger Moore from ITV and also confirmed a national broadcast license with Luken Communications for its Retro Television Network (RTN) and TUFF TV platforms. The Saint will begin airing June 1.
Cinemax’s new late-night comedy series Chemistry added four actors to its cast roster. Joining the 13-episode series about a couple, Liz and Michael (Jonathan Chase) who have an intense physical relationship are: Ragan Brooks (Desperate Housewives) as Jocelyn, Michael’s Martha Stewart-wannabe finance who is also the daughter of Michael’s boss, Arthur. Eric Pierpoint (Parks and Recreation) will play Michael’s boss, Arthur, the founding partner of the law firm where Michael works. Jeremy Kent Jackson (Without a Trace) will play Michael’s supervisor at the law firm. And, Asante Jones (Harry’s Law) will portray Preston, a police officer who is Liz’s partner.
British actor Rod Hallett (Showtime’s The Tudors) next appears as a full-time regular on FOX’s new drama Terra Nova.
HBO’s Hung tapped Ana Ortiz (Ugly Betty) for a multi-episode run, playing a woman with serious anger issues who becomes a client of part-time male prostitute Ray (Thomas Jane). Also for HBO, Alice Eve will appear in a four-episode run for the final season of Entourage.

Chicago’s new mayor, Rahm Emanuel, welcomes executives from the cable and content sectors in The Cable Show‘s must-see opening General Session on Tuesday, June 14. Panel that follows includes CEOs: Jeff Bewkes, Time Warner; Glenn Britt, Time Warner Cable; Chase Carey, News Corp; Pat Esser, Cox; Philippe Dauman, Viacom and Neal Smit, Comcast. Hear candid, unscripted dialogue straight from the top – only at The Cable Show.
Thursday A18-49 Analysis: Compared to the previous week, FOX remained rock solid with its ratings Thursday night at 4.8/14 A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. American Idol on FOX excelled during 8p with a 6.3/20 while the comedies The Big Bang Theory and Rules of Engagement averaged a 3.1/10 in second place for CBS. The one-hour season finale of The Office pivoted NBC to #1 at 9p with a 3.9/10 followed by the season finale of Grey’s Anatomy on ABC at 3.6/9. Then at 10p, the second half of the two-hour season conclusion of The Mentalist on CBS did best at 3.1/9 and ABC’s Private Practice season ender was #2 at 2.5/7.
