At approximately 8:45pm Sunday evening, WABC/NY was restored on Cablevision NY, NJ and CT, in time for the first award presented at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards The following very brief statement was provided by Cablevision’s Charles Schueler, EVP/Communications: “We are happy to report that WABC Channel 7 has returned to Cablevision’s 3 million New York area homes. We are very grateful to our customers for their support and pleased to welcome ABC back.” Shortly thereafter, this statement was sent out by WABC from Rebecca Campbell, Pres/GM: “We’ve made significant progress, and have reached an agreement in principle that recognizes the fair value of ABC7, with deal points that we expect to finalize with Cablevision. Given this movement, we’re pleased to announce that ABC7 will return to Cablevision households while we work to complete our negotiations.” Just after midnight on Saturday, an estimated 3.3 million Cablevision subscribers in the New York Tri-State area lost their ABC programming as ABC Disney pulled its station WABC-TV (ABC7) off Cablevision’s line-up. Cablevision and ABC Disney have been embroiled in intense retransmission negotiations for several days and when the 1201a March 7 deadline was reached, both sides remained at an impasse. Right before the screen went dark, viewers tuning to ABC7 saw the following message from the station: “Cablevision betrayed you again. First HGTV and Food Network, now they lost ABC7. Enough is enough. Go to ABC7.com to switch now.” Over the weekend, dueling statements were being fired back and forth by WABC and Cablevision. At the stroke of 8pm on Sunday night, it appeared there would be no Oscars on Cablevision in much of the tristate area. Then at around 8:45pm, WABC was restored. FOX announced over the weekend it is renewing Fringe from Warner Bros. Television for a third season. FOX will also air Fringe and Bones repeats beginning March 18 and new episodes of both starting April 1. In other renewal news, NBC gave early new season nods to The Office and 30 Rock. To date, NBC has renewed all four of its Thursday night comedies as previous approvals were handed to Parks and Recreation and Community. NBC also announced it will broadcast the Emmy Awards for the first time in decades live from coast to coast on August 29 at 8p ET/5p PT. NBC additionally set the premiere dates for new series 100 Questions starring Charlotte Payne for May 27 at 830p and the mystery drama Persons Unknown for June 7 at 10p. Animal Planet is bringing back two series later this year with second seasons:
CNN will open the new hour-long show John King, USA starting March 22 at 7p. The weeknight show will cover current news and political conversations with King presiding. On March 19, the show will stream live online at noon via CNN.com and CNN.com/Live. Bravo’s The Real Housewives of Orange County finale on Thursday attracted nearly 2.5 million total viewers while the third season premiere of The Real Housewives of New York City followed with 2.0 million total viewers.
