CYNTHIA TURNER’S
Cynopsis

03/06/06

Good morning. It’s Monday, March 6, 2006, and this is your first early morning briefing.

And the Top Oscars went to:
Best Pictures:                Crash (Lionsgate)
Best Actor:                     Philip Seymour Hoffman for Capote
Best Actress:                 Reese Witherspoon for Walk the Line
Best Supporting Actor:  George Clooney for Syriana (and he was right, he didn’t get the Director Oscar, Ang Lee did for Brokeback Mountain)
Best Supporting Actress: Rachel Weisz for The Constant Gardner

And here’s to Jon Stewart who did an admirable job.  His best line of the night was that Bjork couldn’t make it to this year’s festivities – she was trying on her dress and Dick Cheney shot her.   And by the way, loved the animated opening.

Tonight’s Premiere:
ABC: Miracle Workers at 10p

* MORE GOOD STUFF *Charmed series finale on the WB has been scheduled for May 21.  That’s right – series finale.  It will not be part of the new CW line-up in the fall.

The second season of Adult Swim’s Robot Chicken premieres April 2 at 11:30p.  The network will also premiere a new series created by Adam de la Peña, Todd James and Peter Girardi called Minoriteam, wherein ethnic superheroes have a comedic take on bad guys, on March 19 at 12a.

Yes, it’s another show about things you never thought you’d think of from VH1I Love Toys is the network’s latest pop culture countdown extravaganza featuring the 100 most famous toys from “your” childhood – if you’re in the 18-49 bracket.  Premiering March 6 at 10p, the hour-long show explores Lego to Barbie and beyond.

TV Guide magazine and SCI FI Channel are giving away 1.4 million downloads of an episode of Battlestar Galactica in the March 6 issue of TV Guide.  Each newsstand copy has a distinct 12-digit code on the cover, which readers can enter on the iTunes Music Store to receive their free download.

Great American Country is changing its programming lineup and re-naming its series GAC Classic, calling it The Master Series.  GAC will also add a new family-friendly afternoon video block.  Starting March 6, host Bill Cody will premiere The Master Series at 10a and 3p, featuring artists who have been ‘masters’ and overcome many obstacles in the country music biz.  GAC will also launch Mainstreet, a new weekday video block airing at 6p.

The Cynopsis Video Podcast launched last Wednesday, and in its first three days was downloaded more than 2800 times, primarily in the US, but also in the UK, Japan, Russia, Australia, Hong Kong, Canada, and Norway.  This video is updated daily, ready for downloading each morning by 7:15am.  It’s available on iTunes, Yahoo, YouTube.com.  Take a look and let us know what you think!  [email protected]

The History Channel
presents This Day in History:
1857: The Supreme Court of the United States handed down the famous Dred Scott v. Sanford decision, ruling that slaves were not citizens. This ruling, regarded as one of the most important Supreme Court decisions in United States history, stipulated that as non-citizens slaves were not protected by the federal government. This decision was not overturned until the passage of the 13th and 14th Amendments.
