Cynopsis: Kids!
03/05/12

Good morning. It’s Monday, March 5, 2012, and this your first early morning briefing.

4Kids Entertainment and Asatsu-DK Inc. (ADK) and TV Tokyo, have reached a settlement in the lawsuit brought against 4Kids in 2011 by ADK and TV Tokyo, the licensors of the Yu-Gi-Oh! property. The settlement agreement recognizes that the Yu-Gi-Oh! agreement between the three parties is still in full force, and 4Kids will continue to serve as the exclusive licensing agent for the merchandise licensing, television broadcast and home video rights to the Yu-Gi-Oh! property worldwide (excluding Asia). The settlement of the agreement does not represent an admission by any of the parties of any liability or fault, but instead reflects the decision by the three companies to work together amicably to support the Yu-Gi-Oh! property.

One Direction, a popular UK boy band that came in third on X Factor in the UK, will perform at Nickelodeon’s 25th Annual Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday, March 31 at 8p. To give the US audience a chance to get to know On Direction a little better, the band will also host Saturday nights on Nickelodeon throughout March, in exclusive behind-the-scenes content featuring the boys as they tour with Big Time Rush. One Direction will share stories, secrets and music from the road, leading into the world premiere of the Nickelodeon original television movie event, Big Time Movie on Saturday, March 10 at 8p. One Direction recently taped an episode of the Nickelodeon hit series iCarly, entitled iGot Jungle Worms, which will premiere later this year. Additionally, Syco Music and Sony Music will debut One Direction’s album Up All Night in the US on March 13, 2012. The album is already topping the charts in around the world.

LICENSING

4Kids Entertainment International has been appointed the global licensing agent for the new action/comedy animated series J.V. The Extraordinary Adventures of Jules Verne (26×26), developed by Lux Vide in cooperation with Rai Fiction and Musicartoon. Targeted to K6-11 and slated to debut in spring 2013, the series imagines that a young Jules Verne, the celebrated author of titles including 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, Around the World in Eighty Days, and Journey to the Centre of the Earth, actually lived through the stories he wrote about. The Extraordinary Adventures of Jules Verne follows Jules and a group of regular characters, including the spirited Amelie Lucas, the same age as Jules and a born-adventurer, and her father Artemius, an explorer/journalist who employs the young Jules on the editorial staff of his newspaper, as they battle against the forces of the evil Captain Nemo – who is intent on taking over the world through his technological genius. The licensing and merchandising program is set to kick off with the launch of toys, games, interactive and collectables in 2013, followed by back to school, apparel and accessories.

Upper Deck has partnered with Marvel Entertainment and Gazillion Entertainment to release the first Super Hero Squad trading card game (TCG) on April 24, 2012. Based on the rules and card design of Marvel Super Hero Squad Online’s player vs. player card game, the TCG brings a new dimension to the Super Hero Squad franchise. Based on Hasbro’s 2006 toy line, Marvel’s Super Hero Squad has since become an animated TV series and a digital massive multi-player online game (MMOG), and now a TCG. The new Super Hero Squad TCG will offer additional connectivity with exclusive loot cards and reward codes that can be used to unlock features in Marvel Super Hero Squad Online. The new Super Hero Squad TCG will feature a 300-card base set that includes Marvel heroes like Spider-Man, Iron Man, Wolverine, Thor, Captain America, The X-Men among others, and digital reward codes in every pack. Consumers can pick up four separate single player intro packs themed around Spider-Man, Iron Man, Wolverine and Hulk. Each of which includes one “super-rare” foil card and a collectible coin per each intro pack. A two-player intro pack is also available, pitting The Avengers against the X-Men, and including two exclusive play mats and a collectible coin. Additionally, booster packs consisting of six common cards, three uncommon cards and one rare foil card will be available.
