NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
I’m sure this is not too much of a shock to anyone … but … actor Daniel Radcliffe has apparently signed on the dotted line to star in final two Harry Potter movies, HP and the Half-Blood Prince and HP and the Deathly Hallows, according to, well just about every darn HP website that ever was.
MORE KIDS STUFF
Nickelodeon UK’s Nick Jr. and Nick Jr. 2 channel debuted the first episode of the new series Little Green Fingers over the weekend. Created and produced by the UK-based Jam Create, the short form series focuses on the wonderment of working in the garden. Launching with 12×2′ episodes in the can, additional episodes of the series will follow later this year episodes. Simultaneously, the network has launched a corresponding Little Green Fingers site at www.nickjr.co.uk/greenfingers.
In other Nick UK news, bowing today on the NickToons UK at 4:30p is the 4Kids Entertainment series Viva Piñata. An interactive Viva Piñata page can be found at the channel’s website www.nicktoons.co.uk .
Martin de Ronde, formerly co-founder of Guerrilla Games has launched OneBigGame (OBG), a non-profit videogame publisher that will release games to raise money for a range of kid’s charities around the world. Specifically, OBG will channel funds it generates to charities that “revolve around a structural improvement in children’s lives, expanding their opportunities in life.” Simultaneously, OBG hopes to also raise awareness among video gamers for the various causes it supports. OBG will attend the Game Developer’s Conference 2007 in San Francisco this week where the company plans to expand its relationship with gaming community to create content for this initiative. Several game developers have pledged their support, including designers such as Charles Cecil (Revolution Software), Eric Zimmerman (Gamelab) and Ernest Adams (international Hobo), as well as development studios such as Avalanche Studios, Relentless, Kuju and Freestyle.
Spain’s BRB Internacional has picked up a second season (52 episodes) of the Bernard animated short-form series as well as a feature film based on the CG animated property. Production on both the series and the movie will head into production this year, with the movie slated for a 2009 release. The property revolves around the humorous misadventures of Bernard, a clumsy polar and strange polar bear. When season two of Bernard is completed there will be a total of 104 episodes. The first season of Bernard (52-episode) has been picked up in 60+ countries. In the global licensing arena, Bernard bear production lines have or will be introduced: The German WB Compagnie (toys, plush and accessories), Seven S.P.A. in Italy (stationery), in France Evasion Comunicacion (fancy dress) and Prime (decorative food products). Additionally, the TV series can be downloaded on mobile phones in several countries: in Austria, OHM; from mid-2007 Materna is planning to market not only episodes of Bernard, but also a range of other mobile content (e.g. wallpaper, ringtones) in Germany, Austria and Switzerland; Kitio Mobile has acquired the video downloading rights, as well the VOD rights, to Bernard in Croatia and Slovenia.
Pileasted Pictures, video games, character animation and concept developer, has spun-off a new company, Planet Cazmo, a teen-targeted virtual world that will feature advertiser opportunities. Like other virtual world sites, Planet Cazmo plans to let users create and accessorize their own virtual characters, neighborhoods, homes and gardens, and playing games, watching videos and trailers as well as trading playlists, the company is promising new customization possibilities than previously seen.
