Food Network serves up a new six-episode series Meat Men from Zero Point Zero Production premiering April 9 at 11p.  The series features famous New York butcher and meat seller Pat LaFrieda who operates Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors, a third-generation wholesale meat business that serves 500+ customers including many well-known restaurants and bistros in NYC. 

New fishermen series, Wicked Tuna debuts on National Geographic Channel April 1 at 10p.  The 10-episode series highlights the spirited fishermen in America’s oldest seaport of Gloucester, Massachusetts as they catch bluefin tuna.
 
Home improvement series The Vanilla Ice Project was renewed for a third season by DIY Network.  The series follows 1990s pop star and home renovator, Vanilla Ice as he tackles a neglected Palm Beach mansion in the next season which begins production this May.

~ DISTRIBUTION, CARRIAGE & CLEARANCE ~

First-run syndicated daily newsmagazine program America Now, co-hosted by Leeza Gibbons and Bill Rancic has been renewed for a third season.  America Now currently airs in 45 markets on weekdays and is from ITV Studios America and Raycom Media. 

As of last week, Bounce TV is now available in the Los Angeles market on KCOP-TV as part of a deal between Bounce TV and FOX Television Stations.  With this addition in Los Angeles, Bounce TV is now seen in the top five markets in the US and is available in close to 75% of African American television homes since its launch last September 2011.

CABLEready, the international television program distribution and development company picked up the international distribution rights to several series and specials including Inside The Actors Studio – The New Season from Bravo/In The Movement Productions with six one-hour episodes; Esther Extraordinaire from Cream Productions for HGTV in Canada with 14 half-hour episodes; half-hour weekly series The Countdown produced by Reelz; CABLEready secured the broadband content rights to the 2012 Tony Awards (CABLEready already holds the broadcast rights to the annual awards show); and TV Guide Network specials with a total of 42 one-hour programs. 

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Production is underway on Nat Geo WILD’s new six-episode worldwide series Extreme Animal Rescue which will be seen in more than 100 million homes and more than 90 countries.  The series, produced by Bienstock Young Media follows wildlife expert and adventurer Donald Schultz and animal advocate, actor, producer and film director Alison Eastwood as they relocate animals to healthy living environments.

Former soap opera star Susan Lucci (All My Children’s Erica Kane) joins the ABC primetime soap drama Devious Maids from Marc Cherry.  The drama is about four maids (Ana Ortiz, Judy Reyes, Roselyn Sanchez and Dania Ramirez) who all have ambitions and dreams of their own while working for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills. Lucci will co-star as Genevieve Delacourt, a wealthy and somewhat crazy employer of one of the maids.  ABC Studios is producing.

Karen LeBlanc was added to the cast of ABC’s Beauty and the Beast project.  LeBlanc will play Ehren, the leader of the rebel band that wants to see Emperor Dorian (F. Murray Abraham) dethroned. 

Film actor Michael Nyqvist, who recently starred in the Swedish film version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and its two sequels as well as Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol will next star in ABC’s drama pilot Zero Hour.  The plot centers on Hank Foley (Anthony Edwards) who after spending 20 years as the editor of a skeptic’s magazine and following a strange twist of fate, is pulled into one of the most compelling conspiracies in human history.  Nyqvist will play White Vincent, one of the villains in the center of the conspiracy.  ABC Studios is producing.

ABC’s supernatural drama pilot 666 Park Avenue tagged Vanessa Williams to play Olivia, who with husband Gavin (Terry O’Quinn) owns the historic luxury apartment building that sports supernatural activities. 

Claire Forlani (CSI: NY) was cast in the central leading role in ABC’s drama pilot Scruples based on the novel by Judith Krantz, reports TVLineBoris Kodjoe and Jessica McNamee also join the cast.   Forlani will play Billy Winthrop, a powerful fashion designer; Kodjoe was cast as Josh Hillman, the attorney of Billy’s late husband; and McNamee will portray Maggie, a celebrity journalist and Billy’s best friend.

Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond, ‘Til Death) takes on a new sitcom role in ABC’s comedy pilot How to Live With Your Parents For the Rest of Your Life.  Garrett will play the dad Max married to Elaine (Elizabeth Perkins). Max and Elaine’s daughter Polly (Sarah Chalke), a recently divorced single mom moves back in with them. 

Also for ABC, two regulars were added to the comedy pilot The Smart One starring Portia de Rossi and Malin Akerman, reports THRMatt Oberg and Stephanie Beatriz join the cast that also includes David Arquette and Jean Smart. 

FOX’s untitled teen spy drama is in negotiations with Angela Bassett and Julian McMahon to join the cast.  The drama centers on Jane Forsythe, the orphaned 14-year-old daughter of a CIA operative who encounters a mysterious rogue agent/assassin who becomes her surrogate father and mentor in the spy world.  Bassett will play Alice Vargas, the director of the CIA and McMahon will play Kevin Lear, the longtime CIA operative who takes Jane (Saxon Sharbino) under his wing.  Twentieth Television is producing.

Previous Friday Nights Lights star Zach Gilford will co-star in FOX’s untitled medical drama from Josh Berman.  Gilford will play a rich doctor alongside Jordana Spiro’s character who is forced to “moonlight” as a mob doctor.  Sony Pictures Television is producing. 

Carla Gugino landed a starring role opposite Sigourney Weaver on USA Network’s six-hour original series Political Animals.  Gugino will play Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper reporter Susan Berg, an ambitious Washington, D.C. journalist focused on destroying the career of former First Lady and newly appointed Secretary of State Elaine Barrish (Weaver).  Political Animals is slated to debut this summer and is from Berlanti Productions and Laurence Mark Productions in association with Warner Horizon Television.

~ RATINGS ~

Thursday A18-49 Analysis:  It was a close call, though FOX pulled out the win with A18-49 viewers at 3.6/10, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen.  At 8p, there was no doubt that American Idol on FOX did best at 4.9/14  and CBS’ double The Big Bang Theory episodes was #2 at an average of 4.5/13.  CBS flipped into first place at 9p with Person of Interest at 3.4/9 followed by FOX’s The Finder at 2.3/6.  CBS stayed firmly at #1 during 10p with The Mentalist at 2.8/8 and Univision’s La Que No Podia Amar trailed in second place at 1.7/5.
