On Friday evening, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the winners of the 37th Annual Daytime Entertainment Creative Arts Emmy Awards at an event held in Los Angeles. Christian LeBlanc of CBS’ The Young & the Restless hosted and was joined by presenters running the gamut of daytime television. A sampling of the recipients includes (for more info click here):

Saturday’s two and a half hour FIFA World Cup match airing on ABC/ESPN between US and Ghana, the game which eliminated the US from the tournament, now ranks as the most-watched Men’s World Cup game in World Cup history. The match drew nearly 15.0 million total viewers between 230p and 512p. The game also attracted 4.5 million viewers on Univision, making it the highest viewership ever for a US World Cup game on the network.

Starting tonight, Outdoor Channel launches 13 new series for third quarter as well as a slew of returning series, all broadcast in hi-def. The new series include:

  • Truck Academy – Original series offering a diy take on upgrading and maintenance of pickup trucks and off-road vehicles. Hosted by former Miss USA Kimberly Pressler. Premieres tonight at 9p.
  • Jim Shockey’s The Professionals – Series takes viewers behind the scenes into the life and career of Jim Shockey while traveling to dangerous hunting destinations. Premieres this Tuesday at 7p.
  • Dream Season Celebrity – Teams go head-to-head to test their deer-hunting skills. Premieres this Tuesday at 1030p.
  • Benelli on Assignment – Series features top bird shooting action and big game adventures in remote locations with writers and photographers who are “on assignment.” Premieres this Wednesday at 5p.
  • Field & Stream’s Gun Nuts presented by Smith & WessonField & Stream’s field editor Dave Petzal and shotguns columnist Phil Boujaily showcase the latest gun hardware in this half-hour series. Premieres this Wednesday at 930p.
  • Gold Tip’s 4CE – Series hosted by three friends, Jim Burnworth, Ray Bunney and Keith Mark will welcome a fourth host each week as they uphold American sportsmen’s values. Premieres this Thursday at 7p.
  • Wanna Go Fishing? – Host Matt Eastman asks a random individual to join him on an all-expenses paid fishing trip. Premieres this Friday at 10p.
  • Buck Commander protected by Under Armour – MLB superstars team up with “Boss Hogg” Willie Robertson as they participate in bow practicing and lots of comic antics in the field. Premieres this Saturday at 10a and 730p.
  • Craig Morgan All Access Outdoors – New reality show that follows country music star and avid outdoorsman Craig Morgan. Premieres this Saturday at 11a.
  • The Season with Justin Martin – Series follows world champ professional archer Justin Martin as he tries for a new title and the next great hunt. Premieres this Saturday at 830p.
  • Boone and Crockett Country – Weekly hunting documentary honoring the best in big game hunting and conservation in North America. Premieres this Sunday at 10a.
  • Mathews’ Dominant Bucks presented by Mathews Archery – Whitetail hunting expert and outdoor icon Stan Potts explores the world of hunting. Premieres this Sunday at 630p.
  • Legends of the Fall – Series profiles six Outdoor Channel “Dream Season” and “Bow Madness” hunters. Premieres this Sunday at 11p.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Jonny Lee Miller (Eli Stone) is joining Showtime’s Dexter during season five, playing a mysterious man linked in a storyline involving Julia Stiles’ character. Miller will appear in six episodes of the drama series which has begun production on the fifth season slated to premiere this fall.

VH1 is working on a new reality series about the staff of the restaurant Beso, owned by actress Eva Longoria-Parker (ABC’s Desperate Housewives). Longoria-Parker’s Beso has two locations, one in Hollywood and the other in Las Vegas and at this time it is not determined which location will be featured. Longoria-Parker will not star in the reality show.

In other updates from VH1, the network picked up a workplace reality pilot titled Office Bonus (wt) set in an office where the workers vie for a $50,000 bonus. The premise of the pilot has staffers locked inside their workplace for 72 hours and during this lockdown, they must encourage their co-workers to vote for them. The one employee who gets the most votes wins the cash bonus. 3 Ball Productions is producing with JD Roth, Todd Nelson and Adam Greener as executive producers. 3 Ball is also behind VH1’s Dad Camp and The OCD Project.

George Hamilton is the next celebrity up for a reality series, as TV Land is prepping a docu-soap series featuring the actor and his sons Ashley and George Thomas, cites THR’s Live Feed. Bunim Murray is producing the show about the bachelor dad and his older bachelor son, Ashley who have to act their ages when 10-year old George Thomas moves to Los Angeles to live with them.

Former Melrose Place actress Katie Cassidy will remain on The CW though is switching to Manhattan-based series Gossip Girl. Cassidy will join the cast of Gossip Girl playing a student at Columbia and a love interest for Nate (Chace Crawford) in a multiple-episode run. Cassidy’s first appearance will coincide with the launch of Gossip Girl’s fourth season premiere.

A&E Network approved an unscripted pilot from Ryan Seacrest Productions showcasing British self-help guru Paul McKenna. The 60m series tentatively called The Incurables will focus on McKenna as he tries to help two people in each episode who are suffering from major psychological or physical problems. McKenna’s production banner, McKenna Media will also produce; executive producers include Ryan Seacrest, McKenna and Sam Mettler, an executive producer on A&E’s series Intervention.

CBS tapped Judy Greer (Miss Guided) for its midseason comedy Mad Love. Previously, CBS gave the comedy a 13-episode order though stalled on the final pick-up as the producers, Sony Pictures Television and CBS Television Studios, searched for a replacement for star Lizzy Caplan. Greer stars along with Sarah Chalke who was also recently recast in the comedy about a group of friends looking for love in New York City. Mad Love’s writer is Matt Tarses who executive produces with Jamie Tarses.

~ RATINGS ~

Thursday  A18-49 Analysis: ABC and FOX shared the top spot Thursday night by each posting a 1.9/6 among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. ABC’s summer reality series Wipeout took out the competition at 8p with a 2.6/10 followed by UNIV’s Hasta que el Dinero Nos Separe at 1.9/7. During 9p, FOX with So You  Think You Can Dance and UNIV with Soy Tu Duena tied for first place at 2.4/8 each while the premiere of Rookie Blue on ABC came next at 1.9/6. At 10p, a repeat of The Mentalist on CBS won with 1.7/5 and ABC’s new Boston Med program was #2 with a 1.3/4.

Steve Schiffman was elevated to President of National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo WILD. Steve has been the EVP/GM of NGC since 2007 and will continue to report directly to David Haslingden, CEO, National Geographic Channels and CEO of National Geographic Channels International and Fox International Channels.  Congratulations Steve!

NCM Media Networks hired David Murray as VP/Integrated Sales and Marketing based in New York. In this newly-created position, David will develop new business strategies and integrated marketing opportunities using NCM’s multiple platforms including its various in-theater cinema advertising promotional products across NCM Cinema Network and NCM Interactive Network. Additionally, NCM Media Networks advanced Rebecca Eldridge to VP/Marketing where she will supervise all marketing activities for NCM’s multiple cinema advertising outlets. Rebecca will also continue to head and create NCM’s integrated entertainment marketing programs with its movie studio partners. Rebecca will continue to be located in New York, reporting to Michael Eaton, SVP/Marketing.
