On Saturday, longtime Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after suffering a mild heart attack. Paula Askansas, a Sony Television spokesperson said Trebek is expected to make a full recovery and back on the job when Jeopardy! begins production on a new season next month. While Trebeck was in the hospital Saturday, Jeopardy! won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game Show. Trebek has served as host of the game show for 28 years.
Marc Cherry’s latest drama series, Devious Maids was picked up by Lifetime, where the network ordered the project to series for 2013 with 13 episodes. Devious Maids, which was previously a pilot project at ABC, is about five maids who possess ambition and dreams of their own while they work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills. The drama stars Ana Ortiz, Judy Reyes, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez, Edy Ganem, Grant Show, Brianna Brown, Rebecca Wisocky, Tom Irwin, Marianna Klaveno, Brett Cullen, Drew Van Acker and former soap star Susan Lucci. Devious Maids is based on the Mexican telenovela Ellas son la Alegria del Hogar and is produced by ABC Studios with Cherry serving as EP along with Sabrina Wind, Eva Longoria, Paul McGuigan, Larry Shuman, David Lonner, John Mass, Paul Presburger and Michael Garcia.
The premiere for MTV’s upcoming comedy, The Inbetweeners has been scheduled for August 20 at 1030p. The series is based on a popular British show by the same name.
MTV bowed the Jersey Shore spin-off series Snooki & JWoww last Thursday with 2.4 million total viewers and delivered a 1.1 rating among A18-49. MTV’s first Jersey Shore spin-off show featuring Pauly D drew in 2.9 million total viewers when it debuted last March.

Meredith Corporation announced its unit Meredith Video Studios, an original programming development and production business, selected the Rohrs Media Group, helmed by John Rohrs, to head distribution of The Better Show as well as other future projects. Going into its sixth season, The Better Show is a syndicated program available on more than 150 broadcast television stations and cleared in nearly 80% of the US households.
Gravity Collection, Inc. (GCI) launched a new action-extreme sports channel along with sports apps showcasing hundreds of hours of action and outdoor sports programming. The programming will include originally produced television content, feature films, shorts and clips in various actions sports such as surfing, snowboarding, skiing, skateboarding, mountain biking, motocross, climbing and more. GCI will be available on major MSO outlets.
Family entertainment network, GMC TV approved two new GMC World Premiere Series. The first series is, The Bulloch Family Ranch featuring working-class couple, Julie and Rusty Bulloch who are parents to 25 kids they have taken in from the streets and broken family situations. Produced by Peacepoint Entertainment Group and Cry Baby Media, GMC ordered seven one-hour episodes with production beginning this month in central Florida. The second series is a one-hour docu-series called I Forgive You, a show giving people the chance to forgive someone who has hurt them or a love one physically and emotionally. The series’ mission will facilitate healing to overcome hatred, anger and revenge. I Forgive You is from Arnold Shapiro Productions and Bayonne Entertainment. For now, GMC ordered a one-hour special with plans to turn it into a series.
NBC’s musical drama Smash is adding Jennifer Hudson in a multi-episode arc for the second season. Hudson will portray Veronica Moore, a Tony-winning Broadway star who plays an important role in the lives of Karen (Katharine McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hilty). Hudson’s role will be introduced in the season two premiere which will debut in midseason. Hudson won a supporting actress Academy Award for her role in the musical film Dreamgirls.

Thursday A18-49 Analysis: ABC topped the pack among the A18-49 viewers Thursday at 6.0/19, according to final primetime national ratings from Nielsen. CBS’ comedies The Big Bang Theory and 2 Broke Girls, both with repeat episodes, beat out the competition at 8p with an average of 2.2/8 followed by ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live Game Night and the Kia NBA Countdown at an average of 1.8/7. ABC then ruled during 9p with the last of the NBA Finals Game 5 at 6.5/21 while FOX’s The Choice and Univision’s Abismo de Pasion tied for #2 at 1.5/5 each. ABC’s ratings for the NBA Finals jumped to a 7.7/23 at 10p way ahead of next in line Univision with La Que No Podia Amar at 2.0/6.
