~ MORE STUFF ~

In another week, Discovery Channel premieres a new six-episode series, Mobster Confessions that chronicles stories of Mafia members who offered firsthand testimonies of their experiences working with America’s most notorious underground families.  Mobster Confessions debuts June 25 at 9p.

Last Thursday’s season finale of Don’t Be Tardy for the Wedding on Bravo chalked up series highs with 2.35 million total viewers and 1.31 million among A18-49, based on Nielsen data.  True Entertainment produces the series for Bravo.

Comedian and actress, Yvette Wilson died last Thursday at the age of 48.  Los Angeles-born Ms. Wilson was best known for her roles on the television comedies Moesha and its spinoff program The Parkers.  Ms. Wilson began her entertainment career as a stand-up comedian and went on to land her first acting roles in the 1993 ABC sitcom Thea and in the feature films House Party 3, Friday and Poetic Justice.  On the popular sitcom UPN sitcom Moesha, that launched in 1996 and starred the R&B singer Brandy, Ms. Wilson played the role of Andell Wilkerson, owner of the hangout The Den.  Ms. Wilson was on Moesha for five seasons and then joined The Parkers for five more seasons.

Cynopsis Media attended the CTHRA Talent Everywhere HR Symposium (Cable and Telecommunications Human Resources Association) in Atlanta this past week. Held at the CNN Center, the event was put together well with some great content providers in attendance including representatives from Comcast, Scripps Networks, Turner Broadcasting and A+E Networks to name a few. Being amidst the fast-paced downtown area of Atlanta, with its wonderful Southern hospitality, the breakout sessions were fun and enlightening. Communication involving the five generations in the workforce today or the challenges of managing a globally disbursed team were a couple of issues HR professionals are challenged with and discussed at the symposium.  A common and all too familiar theme throughout the event reminds us technology is forever changing and shaping our industry – TV Everywhere! This was aptly evident among the attendees who were constantly tied to their iPhones, iPads, Droids, etc.  These same people and the millennials of today are changing not only how and where we view content but also how we do our jobs on a daily basis. That being said, the good news is more positions are being created to attract candidates to keep pace with this digital explosion in the workforce. This strategic shift and focus in the digital space was the catalyst behind Turner Broadcasting’s goal to fill 100 technology jobs in 100 days (subject of one of the breakout sessions). Through strategic planning and some good ol’ elbow grease Turner did it. However, fulfilling this niche of talent can be difficult even for a company such as Turner. Convincing talented technologists that a company like Turner can be as thrilling a place to work as Hulu or Amazon takes lots of tactical planning. “You have to create the hook to get these talented technologists in the door,” said Scott Boyarsky, VP/Sports Media at Turner Broadcasting.  For more information on CTHRA and their event, please visit: http://www.cthra.com/symposium.

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

CBS is dusting off the game show format Win, Lose or Draw, giving a pilot order to Ryan Seacrest’s production company for a remake titled Draw Something.  Produced by Sony Pictures Television, Ryan Seacrest Productions and Embassy Row, the game show pilot project is based on the popular mobile and tablet game from Zynga where celebrities and ordinary people play in front of a live audience to win cash prizes.  The pilot will also include an interactive element allowing viewers to play along at home for prizes.  Seacrest, Michael Davies and Ryan Seacret Productions’ CEO Adam Sher will all serve as EPs on the pilot which ended up at CBS following a bidding war.  A host for the pilot will be determined soon.

Executive producer/TV host Mike Richards (Beauty and the Geek) will become the host of GSN’s pilot for the network’s new original game show, The Pyramid.  Production on the half-hour game show pilot begins filming later this month.  The Pyramid is a modern-day redo of the classic word-guessing game show.  GSN is bringing back the celebrity guests, the Pyramid game board and the Winner’s Circle in a new version that is executive produced by Michael Davies (The Newlywed Game, The Price Is Right) and Maureen FitzPatrick (Donny & Marie, Whose Line Is It Anyway?).  The Pyramid is produced by Embassy Row in association with Sony Pictures Television.

Broadway rising star Jeremy Jordan is joining NBC’s Smash for its second season as a series regular.  Jordan, who gained recognition for his role on Broadway’s Newsies, will play an attractive Brooklyn-born singer with a self-destructive streak on NBC’s musical drama series.

FX’s American Horror Story has cast former MTV’s Skins star Britne Oldford for the upcoming second season, reports TVLine.  Oldford will play the recurring role of Alma though no description of the character was made available.

On Friday, Nicole Scherzinger related via Twitter that she will next appear as a judge for the new season of X Factor in the UK.  Scherzinger, who was a judge during season one of The X Factor on FOX in the US, will be replacing former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland on the original UK version of the competition series.  Simon Cowell’s production company Syco Entertainment produces the show.
