American Public Television is distributing a 30m weekly television program in hi-def this fall titled Growing Bolder. Hosted by journalists Marc Middleton and Bill Shafer, Growing Bolder is about men and women who tear-down stereotypes of middle age profiling master athletes, entertainers to authors and musicians. The program originally debuted on WMFE-TV in Orlando and WEDU-TV in Tampa in 2009 and will be available via satellite to public television stations nationwide starting September 3 (check local listings). Episodes will also be available online at GrowingBolder.com.

Broadcast journalist, Daniel Schorr died last Friday at Georgetown University at the age of 93. Mr. Schorr’s illustrious sixty-year career began when he was selected as one of Edward R. Murrow’s recruits at CBS in 1953. While working for CBS News, Mr. Schorr earned Emmy awards over three consecutive years for his reporting on the Watergate scandal in the 1970s and even earned the distinction of being included on President Nixon’s “Enemies List” citing it personally as one of his greatest career achievements. Mr. Schorr began at CNN in 1979 when the cable news channel was in its earlier stages as the network’s first news anchor.  After his CNN contract was not renewed in 1985, he began as a senior news analyst at NPR. For the last 25 years and until just recently, Mr. Schorr contributed his commentaries regularly on NPR’s All Things Considered and other programs. His style of journalism was considered blunt and muckraking which often times came in conflict with presidents of both parties as well as some of his bosses. Throughout his career he earned many awards including a Peabody, the Alfred I. Dupont-Columbia University Golden Baton and the Edward R. Murrow Award for Lifetime Achievement in Broadcasting. Mr. Schorr was also a member of the Hall of Fame of the Society of Professional Journalists. He is survived by his wife Lisbeth; two children and one grandchild. Memorial plans have not been announced.
