Cynopsis: Kids!
1/29/07
Good morning. It’s Monday, January 29, 2007 and this is your first early morning Kids! briefing.
Nintendo and the Associated Press launched The Wii News Channel, available for free to Wii console owners in the US, over the weekend. Under a two-year pact with AP, the News Channel features domestic national, regional and international news stories and photos, in English, French, Spanish, Dutch, German and Swiss-German. In Japan, where Nintendo launched the Wii News Channel on Friday, the news content is being provided by the Japanese news service Goo. In the US, The News Channel joins the other non-game related channels, the Forecast Channel (weather) and the Internet Channel, all of which can be found on the console’s Wii Menu. I’d tell you more about how the service works and what types of news stories are currently available on the new channel, but the TV where our Wii is set-up is currently solidly focused on ESPN’s coverage of the X-Games.
Elsewhere, rumors persist that Nintendo will launch a Games Channel for the Wii console. The latest information is from a Nintendo representative who said the company, “… has developed a programming system that will allow small independent developers to make games for Wii download service,” when questioned by Computerandvideogames.com. The rep then added “We cannot confirm at this time in what format the new content will be delivered, but in the future there will be original games available for download through the Wii Shop.”
MORE KIDS STUFF
The animated series, Gerald McBoing Boing (26×30′) and Krypto The Superdog (39×30′) are set to join the weekday programming lineup on Boomerang, beginning February 5, at 6p and 7p, respectively. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, Krypto The Superdog is based on the character of the same name that first appeared as part of DC Comics Superboy series in 1955. The series first premiered on Cartoon Network. Adapted from the Oscar-winning short film by Dr. Seuss, Gerald McBoing Boing is produced by The Cookie Jar Company.
Universal Studios Home Entertainment will release The Land Before Time: The Great Day of the Flyers’, the 12th and newest chapter in the family-targeted animated prehistoric Land Before Time series, as a Direct-to-DVD title on February 27, 2007. The DVD movie will be followed later this year by the debut of a new mixed 2D/3D animated The Land Before Time series (26×30′) on Cartoon Network, where it is slated to run five days a week. Produced by Cartoon Network, The Land Before Time animated TV series will be distributed by Universal Home Entertainment.
BabyUniverse, Inc. has launched MyBabyTV, a user-generated content area on BabyTV.com. Targeted to new parents, users can upload their own baby video, which will then be reviewed by a BabyTV.com moderator who will approve the content for posting. At launch MyBabyTV will be cross-marketed to visitors of all of the BabyUniverse sites including BabyUniverse.com, DreamtimeBaby.com, PosTots.com and PoshLiving.com, PoshCravings.com and ePregnancy.com.
