~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Debmar-Mercury is working with ITV Studios to premiere a new US version of the British daytime talk show The Jeremy Kyle Show this year. Debmar-Mercury will debut the talk show via a limited, on-air preview over several weeks. Then in 2011, Debmar-Mercury will pivot the talk show into a full national syndication launch. In the UK, The Jeremy Kyle Show has been on the air since 2005 and is consistently one of the most-watched daytime programs.

HGTV hired Heather Armstrong, known as America’s “mommyblogger” under an exclusive programming development agreement where she will team with the network’s online and on-air production units to create new programming. Armstrong will headline HGTV’s social media efforts which will be unveiled in more detail this spring and continue to blog on her website at dooce.com.

Many more pilot pick-ups by FOX and NBC last Friday:

  • FOX approved a drama pilot called Breakout Kings about a group of marshals working with ex-cons to capture criminals who break out of prison. The project is from writers and executive producers Matt Olmstead and Nick Santora and 20th Century TV.
  • FOX is moving forward with a legal drama titled Pleading Guilty from Jon Avnet, 20th Century TV and Chernin Entertainment. Based on the novel by Scott Turow, the storyline is about Mack Malloy, an ex-cop who now is employed as a partner in a prestigious Chicago law firm.
  • NBC gave a nod to a pilot for the multi-camera comedy This Little Piggy from ABC Studios. The plot is about two adult siblings who fall on hard times and move back into their childhood home with an older brother and his family. Originally, the project was written as a spec and given a presentation order in March 2009 by ABC through ABC Studios. Steven Craff and Brian Bradley are writing and executive producing.
  • NBC gave a further order to another comedy pilot Nathan vs. Nurture about an ambitious heart surgeon who was adopted and finds his biological parents and his underachieving siblings. David Guarascio and Moses Port wrote the script and are executive producing.
