NBC and The Tonight Show host Conan O’Brien continued their talks over the weekend concerning O’Brien’s exit settlement with an agreement set to be announced soon. O’Brien had a guaranteed contract for another two and a half years, valued at an apparent $10 million to $20 million per year. O’Brien is likely to get a settlement from NBC valued at more than $30 million. Other negotiated terms include allowing O’Brien to debut a new show on another network, perhaps as early as September. O’Brien may host The Tonight Show only through this week.
This Friday at 8p, eleven broadcast and cable networks will televise a two-hour telethon, Hope for Haiti to benefit victims of last week’s earthquake. ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN, BET, CW, HBO, MTV, VH1 and CMT will air the special in the US and MTV Networks International, CNN International and National Geographic channels will air it worldwide. Hope for Haiti, hosted by George Clooney, the Haitian-American musician Wyclef Jean and CNN’s Anderson Cooper, will feature about twelve other celebrities.
IFC offers up new seasons of two original series with a culinary theme airing in the network’s Automat block starting April 27. At 10p a second season of Food Party debuts with two 15-minute episodes airing back-to-back each Tuesday. Food Party, with 20 total episodes produced by Greencard Pictures, features host Thu Tran and her crew of puppets. Following at 1030p, the 30-minute series Dinner with the Band airs as the first alternative food show combining food with musical performances and interviews with independent bands. Ten new episodes of Dinner with the Band showcases such groups as Rufus Wainwright and Murder City Devils and more. Dinner with the Band was created by Darin Bresnitz and co-developed by Greg Bresnits, co-founders of Finger on the Pulse and their production company Diabolik Productions.
This June, MTV will roll out two new original scripted comedy series:
- The Hard Times of RJ Berger – Half-hour coming-of-age series about fifteen-year old, RJ (Paul Iacono). Twelve episodes comprise the first season.
- Warren the Ape – Series parodies celebrity reality shows and features D-list celebrity puppet, Warren “The Ape” Demontague. Season one will include twelve episodes.
A&E Network launched a tenth season of The First 48 last Thursday which became the best-ever season premiere for the series, attracting 1.4 million A25-54 and averaging 2.4 million total viewers. The First 48 also delivered 1.4 million A18-49 viewers. Then at 10p, A&E debuted a second season of Manhunters: Fugitive Task Force which drew in 1.2 million A18-49 and A25-54 viewers as well as 1.9 million total viewers.
FX’s series premiere of animated comedy Archer Thursday at 10p tallied 1.2 million A18-49 and 1.8 million total viewers. Additionally, Archer became the network’s highest-rated comedy series debut among A18-34 at 786,000. The Archer encore, airing at 1030p, brought in 955,000 A18-49 and 1.4 million total viewers. New episodes of Archer air on FX each Thursday at 10p followed by a repeat episode at 1030p.

E! announced two new upcoming unscripted series:
- Pretty Wild (wt) – New series follows the lives of three sisters, Tess, Alexis and Gabrielle and their dysfunctional Hollywood family. The eldest two sisters, Tess and Alexis lead heavy party lifestyles while the youngest, Gabrielle is so far resisting the temptations surrounding her in Hollywood. Borderline Amazing Productions and New Wave Entertainment produces with a premiere date set for this March.
- Holly’s World – Half-hour reality series centers on beautiful Holly Madison who appeared on the series The Girls Next Door. In this new series, Holly moves to Las Vegas and headlines a stage show and creates a new life for herself. The eight-episode series is produced by Prometheus Entertainment, Alta Loma Entertainment and Fox Television Studios.
CBS gave a new rendering of Hawaii Five-O an official nod. The remake of the classic cop show, produced by CBS Studios, is written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Peter Lenkov and all three are also executive producing. The original Hawaii Five-O aired on CBS from 1968-1980 about the specialty branch of the Hawaii State Police led by Steve McGarrett who answered only to the governor.
On the pilot front, ABC okayed a new untitled multi-camera comedy from Shana Goldberg-Meehan (Friends) and produced by Warner Bros. Television, cites THR. The project previously titled Leap Frogs is about two sisters at different stages in their romantic relationships.
FOX also approved two pilots, a comedy and a drama, per THR. The first project is an untitled single-camera comedy from writer Adam Goldberg and director Seth Gordon from Sony Pictures Television and Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison about a group of 20-something geniuses who break into computer security systems. Goldberg and Gordon will both executive produce. The second pilot is a drama titled Midland from 20th Television about the oil industry and a polygamist leading a double life.
AMC is developing a new miniseries called Black Gold: The Teapot Dome Scandal from Kirk Ellis (HBO’s John Adams) and adapted from the nonfiction book authored by Laton McCartney. The project is set in the 1920s about the scandal involving the big oil companies and their participation in electing President Harding. Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank are executive producing.
Thursday A18-49 Analysis: ABC had the cure for the A18-49 demo Thursday night posting a top-rated 3.5/10, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, FOX’s Bones came in first at 3.3/10 followed by NBC’s comedies Community and Parks and Recreation averaging a 2.2/6. ABC was #1 at 9p with Grey’s Anatomy at 4.8/13 with CBS’ CSI next at 3.3/9. During 10p, the network order was duplicated as ABC stayed in the lead with Private Practice at 4.2/12 and CBS’ The Mentalist was #2 at 3.4/9.
