Good Morning, it’s Monday, February 5, 2007 and this is your first early morning briefing.
Morning after Super Bowl 2007, and while it may have been a sloppy game in all respects, it was still a great game. As for the commercials, according the small microcosm focus group living in this house, the “greats” were far and few between. Here’s how they fared:
- Best Commercial in the 1st Qtr: Blockbuster Total Access – Live Mouse
- 2nd Qtr: Budweiser Dalmatian Wannabe
- 3rd Qtr where the best commercials of the nights ended up, a tie: Taco Bell “Carnes” Lions & Bud Lite Gorilla’s at the Zoo
- 4th Qtr: E*Trade Things You Can Do With One Finger
- Grossest Commercial: Sierra Mist’s beard comb-over
- Dumbest Commercial: Garmin GPS
- Best Dramatization: Toyota Tundra
- Homemade Doritos commercials: Nice
- Biggest Tie Knot: Shannon Sharpe
- Half Time Show: Just okay.
Tonight’s Premiere:
CBS: Rules of Engagement at 930p
Tonight’s Finale:
E!: High Maintenance 90210
NBC will premiere the mid-season drama series The Black Donnellys on March 5 at 10p, following Heroes at 9p. The crime series centers on four New York working-class Irish-American brothers who are involved in organized crime and who will back each other up at any price. NBC will also debut its latest comedy Andy Barker, P.I. on March 15 at 930p. In other scheduling updates, NBC will shelve Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip which currently airs on Mondays at 10p for the time being, returning it sometime later this season. And, 30 Rock will move back to its former Thursday at 930p slot with new episodes on April 19 after Andy Barker completes its run.
Viacom Inc. has drawn a line in the sand and ordered Google’s YouTube to remove more than 100,000 unauthorized video clips, including those from Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report and VH1’s Flavor of Love, because the two companies could not reach a distribution agreement. Viacom, who was receiving no payment for its content being on YouTube said the online video site “is unwilling to come to a fair market agreement that would make Viacom content available to YouTube users.” In response, YouTube said it would promptly obey with Viacom’s request. Even though the two companies have this current disagreement, Viacom’s MTV Networks did reach a licensing pact with Google last year allowing its video search unit to use MTV clips and those from its sister networks under a revenue-sharing deal.
Turner Broadcasting is expected to pay $1 million to the City of Boston and nearby cities as restitution for the response and actions related to the terror scare last week triggered by Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim guerilla marketing campaign to promote Aqua Teen Hunger Force. In addition to a public apology posted on the Adult Swim web site, Turner Broadcasting purchased two full page ads in the Boston Globe and Boston Herald, with a further apology from Chairman/CEO Phil Kent for the incident.
Trifecta Entertainment & Media, which has the exclusive syndication rights for UFC Wired, a new series of Mixed Martial Arts action featuring athletes from the Ultimate Fighting Championship, has sold 22 one-hour episodes to the Fox Television Stations group, making it the first deal to take the series nationwide for the 2007-2008 season on a full-barter basis. The first-run show will air this fall in nine of the 10 markets where Fox has MyNetworkTV duopolies. The agreement includes clearances in Los Angeles and New York, but not in Chicago. It is yet to be determined if other Fox affiliates or Fox O&Os will pick up the series. In addition, Trifecta will manage all advertising sales for the program. Hosting UFC Wired will be Joe Rogan, who also hosts UFC pay-per-view specials and NBC’s Fear Factor.
