Cynopsis: Kids!
02/01/10
Good morning. It’s Monday, February 1, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
SciGirls, a new tween girl-aimed educational series, is set to premiere on PBS stations nationwide from February 13 (check local listings). Designed to encourage and inspire tween girls in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math (also known as S.T.E.M.), each 30-minute episode of SciGirls follows a different group of real middle school girls putting these sciences to work answering real questions with the help of mentors and two animated characters Izzie and Jake. The series also integrates a corresponding SciGirls social network website ( www.pbskidsgo.org/SciGirls), which is featured at the top of each episode as Izzie is confronted with an issue and takes to the website to find a group of SciGirls to help her solve her issue and from there launches the video and their story. The site also invites girls to create their own page, avatars, and designs and upload their projects and provide them with information about real world applications of S.T.E.M. subjects. Created by tpt National Productions (DragonflyTV, Newton’s Apple), SciGirls is funded by the National science Foundation with additional support from ExxonMobil.
