Good morning. It’s Monday, December 12, 2011, and this is your first early morning briefing.
Tonight’s Premieres:
NBC: Fear Factor at 8p
OWN: Rollin’ with Zach at 8p
Upcoming new reality series Remodeled will have its launch moved to January 17 at 9p, on The CW, following the return of 90201. The network will re-air the first two episodes of Remodeled multiple times during the show’s first two weeks. After airing this repeat episode pattern, The CW will place Remodeled in its regular time period on Wednesdays at 9p out of the final season of One Tree Hill. Ringer will then make a comeback in its Tuesday at 9p time slot starting January 31.
Syndicated daytime series The Nate Berkus Show is ending after this current second season. Sony Pictures Television and Harpo Studios officially announced the cancelation though the show will continue in production and will deliver all scheduled original episodes. The Nate Berkus Show, starring interior designer Nate Berkus was a spin-off of The Oprah Winfrey Show and premiered in 2010.
Lifetime has opted to cancel its frosh drama series Against the Wall. Produced by Universal Cable Productions, Against the Wall is delivering 1.6 million viewers each week for its 13-episode run which is a decline from its premiere episode that attracted 1.8 million total viewers on July 31. The series starred Rachael Carpani with co-stars Treat Williams, Kathy Baker and Andrew Walker.
Referred to as AFTRA’s Network Code, AFTRA and the television networks forged an agreement involving a new three-year contract. The new deal includes an annual 2% wage increase and a 1% upgrade in employer contributions to health and retirement. The health and retirement 1% increase was AFTRA’s main goal in the bargaining. The deal covers scripted and unscripted programs in all television dayparts with the exception of scripted network primetime and scripted basic cable.
A second season of Infested! launches on Animal Planet December 30 at 9p with seven one-hour episodes and two “best of” episodes. The series goes deep into real-life ordinary people’s homes to find horrible infestations that are plaguing their lives. Infested! is produced by Darlow Smithson Productions for Animal Planet.
Also on December 30, Discovery Fit & Health premieres a new season of Dr. G: Medical Examiner at 10p, the first of six one-hour episodes. Soon after the new season launch, TLC will air the one-hour special, Dr. G: Inside the Caylee Anthony Case on January 1 at 8p. The special will offer the viewpoint and perspective of Chief Medical Examiner, Jan C. Garavaglia, M.D. (aka Dr. G) who performed the autopsy and said Caylee’s death was a homicide. The special will air again on Discovery Fit & Health on January 6 at 10p. Atlas Media is behind both the series and the special.

A program licensing deal was struck between AMC and CBS Television Distribution for CSI: Miami. AMC gains the rights to air the first ten seasons of CSI: Miami plus the next two seasons if produced. AMC will premiere CSI: Miami, starring David Caruso beginning January 2 at 5p. CSI: Miami will air as a strip on AMC at 5p Monday through Friday.
Bounce TV picked up the animated series Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids in a licensing deal with Classic Media. The deal affords Bounce TV all 113 episodes of Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids and the network will launch the series in a marathon January 1 titled Hey! Hey! Hey! It’s New Year’s Day. In addition, Bounce TV will rebrand its Tuesday nights to become Fat Tuesdays by airing four episodes of the animated series in primetime starting January 3 at 8p. Furthermore, Bounce TV added two new affiliates to its roster: WTXL/Tallahassee owned by Southern Broadcast Corp./Calkins Media and WFXL/Albany, GA owned by Barrington Broadcasting Group. These two affiliate additions take Bounce TV’s reach to 72% of African American homes.
Production has commenced in Los Angeles on ABC Family’s multi-camera half-hour comedy pilot, Village People starring Jennie Garth, John O’Hurley, Sadie Calvano, Sebastian Sozzi and Rachel Cannon. The plot is about Alexa (Garth) a single, high-powered professional woman who wants to start a family and takes in pregnant teenager (Calvano), the young woman she was planning to adopt from. Garth will also serve as executive producer on the project along with Meg DeLoatch.
Reality series The Moment will debut on USA Network during second quarter 2012, per Variety. The series will be hosted by former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner and will highlight personal reinvention and life transformation stories. The format for the series is described as similar to CBS’ Undercover Boss by focusing on one individual per episode. The pilot has been filmed in Los Angeles and is from producers Charlie Ebersol and Justin Hochberg.
Thursday A18-49 Analysis: CBS was the champ on Thursday among A18-49 at 3.1/8, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. CBS did best at 8p with its comedies The Big Bang Theory and Rules of Engagement at an average of 3.8/11 while FOX’s The X-Factor placed second at 2.9/5 and the return of Wipeout on ABC was in third at 1.9/5. CBS stayed at #1 through 9p with Person of Interest at 2.8/7 and FOX’s Bones and NBC’s sitcoms The Office and Whitney tied for #2 with each posting a 2.4/6 for the hour and Univision’s La Fuerza del Destino was third at 2.0/5. CBS closed out the night the overall primetime winner with The Mentalist at 2.7/7; NBC’s Grimm was #2 at 1.6/4 while the new series The Great Big American Auction on premiered on ABC and ranked #3 at 1.4/4.

TV personality, humorist, actor and writer Mo Rocca is joining CBS News as a Correspondent for CBS Sunday Morning. Mo has been a contributor to the Sunday morning program since 2006 and he will continue reporting for Sunday Morning in addition to other CBS News broadcasts.
Susan Shipsky was appointed VP/Production for Turner Broadcasting’s Animation, Young Adults and Kids Media’s (AYAKM) Creative Group. Susan will head all video, print, special event and digital production as well as post-production for Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and Boomerang sponsorship and collateral material. She will additionally manage all on-air branding, promotion production and post-production for Cartoon Network and Boomerang among many other duties. Based in Atlanta, Susan will report to Michael Ouweleen, SVP/Group Creative Director, AYAKM’s Creative Group.
Cross-cultural advertising, branding, promotions, digital and communications agency, Republica tapped Enrique Dussan for the new upper management position as VP/Media Services. Enrique joins Republica from Wing/Grey Global where he was VP/Director of Communications Planning.
Several executives were added to the staff roster at Golf Channel:
- Andrew Smiley was recently hired as Coordinating Director to head the network’s studio directors and studio productions including Golf Central, The Golf Fix, School of Golf, Morning Drive, Grey Goose 19th Hole and Live From broadcasts based at major championships. Andrew will also be the lead director on certain studio programs. Previously, Andrew worked for ESPN where he was Director/Studio Directing.
- Jessica Batchelor was employed as an On-Air Planner for the network’s promotions department. Jessica is in charge of managing the daily scheduling for logs and promotional requests. She joins from Sun Sports and Fox Sports Florida.
- Javier Zapata joins as Senior Graphic Designer, coming from Fox television affiliates in Tampa and Orlando.
