Speaking late last week regarding their distribution negotiation standstill, Bill Abbott, President/CEO of Hallmark Channels responded to AT&T’s statement: “It is unfortunate that AT&T U-verse’s statement of the situation is inaccurate. They are a multi-billion dollar organization bullying one of the nation’s last surviving independent cable networks by insisting on unreasonable rates that would seriously jeopardize our longevity. Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel are two of the few remaining family-friendly networks offered on television and represent less than 1% of AT&T’s total basic programming fees! Although we would have preferred to conduct the negotiations privately, we have been forced to comment since AT&T advised its customers weeks ago that Hallmark Channels may be dropped on August 31, 2010.”
Sportsman Channel picked up two hunting shows from veteran big-game hunter and outdoor show host and producer, Tom Miranda. Beginning in July 2011, Sportsman Channel will air the hi-def-produced series Whitetail Country and Territories Wild. Both shows previously aired on ESPN2.
Shankly International Distribution, based in West Hollywood, acquired the global TV rights to the reality series Half Pint Brawlers which premiered this past June on Spike TV. Shankly will start licensing the series, with six half-hour episodes at the MIPCOM market in Cannes.
NBC’s Chuck is adding Timothy Dalton in a multi-episode run as a mystery man character that has associations with Chuck’s mom, played by Linda Hamilton. Dalton will make his debut on the show during the seventh episode. Chuck premieres its new fourth season on September 20 at 8p.
Casting Call: 3 Ball Productions, behind such reality shows as The Biggest Loser and Beauty and the Geek, is casting women and men aged 20-35 years where the woman is dating two men at the same time and can’t choose between them. This project will allow the woman to explore what a future with each man would be like before making her final choice. 3 Ball Productions is producing a non-airing pilot (subject to change) where scientific profiles will be used to determine what a man will be like in the future. Interested participants should send an email to [email protected] and include name, age, city, contact numbers and email, two recent photos and your story.
Thursday A18-49 Analysis: CBS and UNIV shared the top berth Thursday night at 1.8/6 each among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. CBS’ Big Brother stood out at 8p with a 2.7/9 and following in second place was ABC’s Wipeout rerun and UNIV’s Hasta que el Dinero Nos Separe with each posting a 1.9/7. UNIV took the 9p hour with Soy Tu Duena at 2.3/7 with ABC’s Rookie Blue at #2 with 1.6/5. CBS regained the lead through 10p with an encore of The Mentalist at 1.4/4 and UNIV’s La Rosa de Guadalupe was a mere tenth of a rating point behind at 1.3/4.

Today’s Trivia Question: Who am I? I’m a bit of a momma’s boy, and she put me in charge of this very cool business. My staff calls me The Big Guy, which I like a lot. I even used that nickname in a political campaign when I was running for City Council: A Big Guy for a Big Job. And by the way, who knew turkeys couldn’t fly. Who am I? (Email [email protected] with your answer and be sure to include your name, company, city and time zone.
