Andy Grossman has left the Cynopsis building.  Andy, as you probably know, was the single author of the weekly Cynopsis: Weekender.   The Weekender will go on hiatus for the month of August as it searches for a group of new freelance reporters, and ultimately provide 3-4 different writing perspectives each week. And so, here is a call to all freelance television reporters – email us here (put Freelance Weekender in the subject line).

While I was on vacation, many spent their week writing more letters, both in support and against the FAIR Ratings Act.

  • Writing on behalf of the opposition have been Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., Dorothy Height, National Council of Negro Women; Warrington Hudlin, Black Independent Filmmaker; Debra Lee, BET; Johnathan Rodgers, TV One; Don Jackson, Central City Productions, Inc.; Byron Lewis, Uniworld Group; and Lawrence Parks, Potomac Coalition; representatives of the American Advertising Federation; Association of National Advertisers; Geraldine Laybourne, Oxygen; Jonathan Sanchez of Eastern Group Publications; American Association of Advertising Agencies.
  • Those in support of the bill include the Don’t Count Us Out coalition as well as Reverend Jacques DeGraff of the Canaan Baptist Church, Harlem; Gilbert F. Casellas, former Chairman of the EEOC and former Co-Chair of the Census Monitoring Board, Washington, DC; Richard Willis, Jr., of Mozell Entertainment Group; Alex Nogales, of the National Hispanic Media Coalition; Bertha Lewis of the Association of Community Organizations called REFORM NOW; and Daniel Mayeda, Founding Member of the Don’t Count Us Out Coalition.

Suppose any of these folks have ever cracked a rating book?  No, I don’t think so either.

The History Channel presents This Day in History:
1941-A vital tool to the Allied forces, the Jeep was designed a short time before August 1st and was ready for use by the Allied forces on this day.  The Allies were getting badly beaten because supplies could not move far away from railroad lines.  The Jeep alleviated the problem and helped save the war.  Perhaps this is why it became a household brand throughout the 20th century.
