Cynopsis Kids was pleased to honor legendary television creator, producer and writer Terri Minsky, the visionary behind the hit Disney Channel series Lizzie McGuire and Andi Mack, with a Luminary Award at the seventh annual Imagination Awards, held on September 25th in NYC.
Minsky created Lizzie McGuire, a defining hit live-action and animated series for Disney Channel that resonated with a generation of kids and tweens. Continuing her track record of writing strong and relatable female characters, Minsky returned to Disney Channel as creator and executive producer of another hit series, Andi Mack, the first Disney series to feature a gay middle school boy.
With a knack for magnetic characters and storytelling, and an uncanny ability to keep in step with today’s sophisticated youth audience, Minsky of late has tackled timely topics including Disney Channel’s first coming-out story arc. The network recently greenlit Andi Mack for a third season.
Andi Mack star Peyton Elizabeth Lee presented a moved Terri Minsky with her Luminary Award on September 25th. Minsky thanked the Andi Mack writers, cast, crew and fans, noting the impact of the show. “When girls get their boyfriends to watch the show, their relationships improve dramatically,” Minsky said during her speech. Afterward, in a chat with Cynopsis’ Cathy Applefeld Olson, Minsky said she appreciates getting to “put words in my characters’ mouths that I wished had been my own.”
Minsky also created Less Than Perfect and The Geena Davis Show for ABC and Finding Carter for MTV, and served as a consultant for the hit cable series Sex and the City. She has a far-reaching list of writing credits including Pearl, starring Rhea Pearlman and Carol Kane; Central Park, starring Raquel Welch; and Sibs, starring Jami Gertz and Dan Castellaneta. Her producer credits include The CW’s The Carrie Diaries, ABC’s Cashmere Mafia, CBS’ Doctor, Doctor and Viacom TV’s Flying Blind.
