Next Tuesday, Bloomberg Television debuts a half-hour non-scripted reality series TechStars highlighting a New York-based boot camp for start ups profiling six up-and-coming companies. The series opens at 9p on September 13 and will conclude with a live, hour-long finale on October 18.
HISTORY premieres a new season of IRT Deadliest Roads on September 25 at 10p. The series features the fearless, experienced drivers who brave the perilous routes of Bolivia and Peru. IRT Deadliest Roads is produced by Original Productions, a FremantleMedia Company for HISTORY.
The series finale of FX’s Rescue Me ended Wednesday at 10p with 2.3 million total viewers and 1.3 million with A18-49. During its seventh and final season, Rescue Me averaged nearly 1.5 million total viewers which is +10% better than the previous sixth season.
New reality series Paranormal Witness on Syfy debuted Wednesday at 10p with 1.26 million total viewers; 716,000 with A18-49; and 726,000 among A25-54.
On Tuesday, Bravo aired the season finale of Flipping Out which delivered its best-rated episode in the series’ history and also the season premiere of The Rachel Zoe Project which scored its highest-rated season debut ever among all key demos, based on Nielsen’s ratings data. The season five conclusion of Flipping Out attracted 1.76 million total viewers and 1.14 million among A18-49. The Rachel Zoe Project opened a fourth season with 1.26 million total viewers and 801,000 with A18-49.

CBS handed a script commitment to a drama project from Rina Mimoun and Scott Foley. The 60m project is titled The Escape Artist about a brother and sister who help people disappear. Mimoun and Foley will serve as executive producers as well as writers. Warner Bros. Television will produce.
ABC has plans to adapt Candace Bushnell’s 2008 book One Fifth Avenue and Josh Safran will write the adaptation and Mark Gordon is on board to produce. The project is called One Fifth and described as Sex and the City meets The Good Wife about columnist Cassie Bingham who moves back to her downtown apartment located at One Fifth Avenue after her husband asks for a separation. Bushnell will also be involved as producer.
HBO ordered to series the untitled Aaron Sorkin project helmed by Jeff Daniels, Emily Mortimer and Sam Waterston about a cable news organization. Daniels plays the news anchor; Mortimer as his new executive producer; and Waterston plays their boss. Other cast members include Alison Pill, Olivia Munn, Dev Patel, John Gallagher, Jr. and Thomas Sadoski in roles as the cable network’s staff members. Sorkin penned the pilot and is executive producing with Scott Rudin and Alan Poul with Greg Mottola directing.
Adult Swim approved a new live-action series called Loiter Squad, a 15-minute show featuring sketches, man on the street segments, pranks and music from Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All. The cast consists of Los Angeles rappers, artists and skateboarders and their creative talent in this show described as a Jackass-style program. Set to premiere in 2012, Loiter Squad is produced by Dickhouse Entertainment based in Hollywood and a production partnership made up of Johnny Knoxville, Jeff Tremaine and Spike Jonze who were behind several series including Jackass, Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory, Nitro Circus among others. Jeff Tremaine and Nick Weidenfeld of Adult Swim will serve as executive producers.
TV host Chris Harrison (current host of The Bachelor, The Bachelorette and Bachelor Pad) is about to get busier as ABC tapped him to emcee its new game show You Deserve It where contestants compete to win up to $500,000 for someone else, sometimes a family member, who is in need. The show’s six episodes begin taping next month though no premiere date has been announced.
Principal photography has begun on a third season of original series Rookie Blue from Entertainment One (eOne) and Thump Inc. Rookie Blue airs on ABC in the US and on Global Television in Canada as well as via Universal Networks International’s pay-TV channels worldwide. Furthermore, Peter Mooney is joining the cast for the third season as new rookie and ex-soldier Nick Collins. The first episode of the third season will also feature William Shatner in a guest starring role as Henry McLeod, an angry drunk driver carrying a major secret and a series grudge against the police.
Upcoming competition reality series Best Ink on Oxygen Media is set in the world of tattoo artists and has selected TV host/recording artist Kimberly Caldwell as host, a tattoo enthusiast herself. Best Ink is produced by Bunim/Murray Productions and is slated to premiere this winter.
A half-hour comedy is being developed at ABC Studios based on the book The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth by Jennifer Garner’s company Vandalia Films, cites Variety. The book, written by Alexandra Robbins is about seven different students with distinct quirks and how their personalities will prove valuable in adulthood. Bert Royal will write the pilot and Donna Roth and Susan Arnold will produce.
Former star of ER, Laura Innes was cast in a major recurring role on NBC’s midseason drama Awake. Innes will also direct one or two episodes of the series. In the cop drama, Innes will play Captain Tricia Harper, Michael Britten’s (Jason Isaacs) boss at the police department.

Tuesday A18-49 Analysis: NBC captured the most viewers Tuesday among A18-49 at 2.4/7, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. ABC had a narrow win at 8p with a Wipeout repeat at 2.0/6 followed by Univision’s Teresa a mere step behind at 1.9/6. At 9p, NBC cornered the market with America’s Got Talent at 3.0/8 and Univision stayed in second place with La Fuerza del Destino at 2.1/6. NBC finished the night in #1 with more America’s Got Talent at 3.2/9 and CBS moved into #2 with a second NCIS: Los Angeles encore of the night at 1.5/4.

Out-of-home television network Akoo has expanded its sales footprint by opening new offices in New York and Los Angeles and by hiring a number of executives around the country: Annie Gordon as VP/Sales in New York; Wayne Aaronson and Linda Villani as VPs/Sales in Los Angeles; and Karen Koonce and Laurie Hartnett as Sales Directors in Chicago.
Miramax is increasing its global sales team and opening its first international office in London. Joe Patrick was elevated to Lead Worldwide Sales reporting to Mike Lang, CEO and will work closely with Beth Minehart, SVP/Global Digital. Additionally, the company added Danny Goldman to be part of Joe Patrick’s team as SVP/Head of Sales, Europe. Danny will report to Joe Patrick and based at the new London office located in Covent Garden which opens later this month.
Discovery Channel promoted Matt Kelly and named Mike Sorensen to Senior Directors/Development. Matt and Mike will take charge of creating series, specials, stunts, franchises and other programming initiatives. Both will be based at the network’s Silver Spring headquarters and report to Dolores Gavin, SVP/Development and Production, Discovery Channel.
As of October 1, former NBCUniversal executive Henry Ahn begins a new position as EVP/Content Distribution and Marketing with Scripps Networks Interactive. Henry will head the distribution strategy for the company’s television brands and associated video content across all platforms. Based at company headquarters in Knoxville, he will report to John Lansing, President, Scripps Networks.
Henry Schleiff, President/GM of Investigation Discovery (ID), Military Channel and Planet Green announced several key appointments:
- Marc Etkind becomes SVP/Content Strategy with Planet Green joining from Animal Planet.
- Ed Hersh takes on new role as SVP/Content Strategy with Military Channel. Ed will continue to offer content advice for ID.
- Sara Kozak upped to SVP/Production with all three networks, ID, Military Channel and Planet Green.
- Doug Seybert advances to SVP/Marketing for ID, Military Channel and Planet Green.
Effective immediately, Cristina Mancini was moved up to SVP/Worldwide Marketing with Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution. Cristina will now supervise all worldwide marketing efforts for Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution. Cristina will further oversee international marketing, publicity, creative services and corporate communications under the umbrella of the newly-established Worldwide Marketing unit. Cristina’s scope will additionally manage Television Distribution’s marketing and publicity efforts for Twentieth Century Fox Television, Fox 21, FtvS, Fx Productions and Fox Filmed Entertainment’s four feature film units. Cristina is based at the company’s Los Angeles headquarters and reports to Mark Kaner, President, Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution.
WCBS-TV, New York’s CBS 2, appointed Don Dahler as Anchor of the station’s weekend morning and evening newscasts starting this Saturday.
Nan Byrne joined New Dominion Pictures as Director/Development where she will work in tandem with VP/Development, Peter Rees creator of the series Mythbusters. Previously, Nan was Head Writer at M2 Pictures.
AdLarge Media, LLC hired Jennifer Barnes in the newly-minted role as VP/Research and Client Services. Jennifer will head the development of operational systems and offer reliable metrics to AdLarge clients and partners.
Alexandra Taylor selected as EVP of Carsey-Werner International Television Distribution. In her new role, Alexandra will continue to spearhead the company’s London office which manages Carsey-Werner’s business efforts in the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Alexandra has been with Carsey-Werner International since 1998.
Full-service marketing communications agency Wing tagged Renata Florio as CCO. Renata relocates to New York from Sao Paulo, Brazil and she will head the agency’s creative direction for such clients as Procter & Gamble, Goya Foods, Eli Lilly and the Ad Council.
