~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~
The duo behind FOX’s Fringe, J.J. Abrams and J.H. Wyman are partnering for a new sci-fi project at the network. FOX gave the pair a pilot-production commitment for a futuristic cop drama about LAPD officers who are partnered with humanlike androids. Wyman will write the untitled project and serve as EP with Abrams and Bryan Burk for Bad Robot and Warner Bros. Television where Abrams is based. Kathy Lingg will also be a co-EP.
On the heels of selling a new cop drama to FOX, J.J. Abrams also is re-upping his deal with Warner Bros. Television. The studio extended their deal with Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions for another three years through 2015. The exclusive deal, which began in 2006, also involves Abrams’ long-time partner Bryan Burk with both serving as EPs on new television projects.
The Voice’s coach Cee Lo Green made a first-look deal with NBC to develop, produce and perhaps star in new scripted and unscripted projects for the network under his newly-established production company, Emerald Productions. The deal also involves a new multi-camera comedy for NBC loosely based on Green’s life highlighting his career as a producer and recording artist from Sony Pictures Television and Happy Madison as well as his family life. Ali Leroi will write the comedy project and will be an EP along with Green and Primary Wave TV’s Andrew Jameson, Primary Wave Music CEO Larry Mestel and Happy Madison’s Doug Robinson.
Creator and EP on FX’s Sons of Anarchy, Kurt Sutter finalized a script development deal with FX to write a half-hour comedy titled Diva. Clown. Killer. The projected is created by Sutter who will be EP along with Katey Sagal and Belle Zwerdling. The plot is about an 80’s has-been rock diva, her dysfunctional son who is a kid’s party clown and an assassin. The comedy may also star Sagal depending on her availability with Sons of Anarchy. The comedy is a co-production of Fox 21 and FX Productions. The fifth season of Sons of Anarchy also premieres next Tuesday at 10p.
Producer Jenny Bicks, showrunner on The Big C, made an overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television. Bicks will develop and produce new drama and comedy projects through her Perkins Street Productions.
Former Grey’s Anatomy star, Kim Raver booked a recurring role on NBC’s new drama Revolution set to premiere on September 17. Details on Raver’s new role have not been revealed yet.
Frances Conroy will remain as part of the cast of FX’s anthology series American Horror Story for its second season. Show co-creator, Ryan Murphy tweeted earlier this week saying Conroy will play “the ultimate angel” in the next installment titled American Horror Story: Asylum.
Scott Thompson, former star of The Kids in the Hall has joined NBC’s drama Hannibal in a recurring role, cites THR. Thompson will play Jimmy Price, the third member of the FBI crime scene investigation team headed by Laurence Fishburne’s Jack Crawford, the leader of the FBI’s behavioral science unit. Jimmy is an expert in fingerprinting and spatter patterns at crime scenes. The other team members include Hettienne Park and Aaron Abrams who play Beverly Katz and Brian Zeller, respectively.
Casting Call: ABC’s Wipeout is casting for season six. The producers are looking for dynamic men and women to participate in the show and they must have strong personalities, be outgoing and have a sense of humor. The show is looking to cast singles, family teams, boss/employee teams, hotties and nerds, couples, twins, newlyweds, exes and people with dirty jobs. You can apply by visiting the website: www.mysticartpictures.com and fill out the online profile and the show applications. Be sure and upload a photo with your profile. Applicants can also attend one of the upcoming open casting call events; you will need to bring a copy of your driver’s license and health insurance card if you have one. The open calls will be September 22 in Los Angeles; October 6 in Orange County; and October 27 in San Diego. The season five finale of Wipeout airs September 20 at 8p on ABC.
The new series version of Dallas, which recently concluded its first season on TNT, debuted in the UK on Channel 5 this Wednesday and opened to close to 3.0 million total viewers and posted a 5.1 rating/13 share during the 9p hour. Dallas became Channel 5’s #1 show for the night.
