Score one for broadcasters: A federal judge in D.C. issued a preliminary injunction Thursday against FilmOn X, concluding that the Copyright Act forbids the streaming service from transmitting copyrighted programs over the Internet. The decision is not good news for Aereo, another streaming service being sued by broadcasters.

Joining Emmy-presenting duo Michael Douglas and Matt Damon (Behind the Candelabra) at CBS’s Sunday, September 22 telecast are 2013 Golden Globes hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, Kerry Washington (Scandal) and Diahann Carroll (White Collar), sisters Zooey (New Girl) and Emily (Bones) Deschanel and Allison Janney and Anna Faris (from upcoming CBS sitcom Mom).

MSNBC has confirmed that Alec Baldwin is joining the net as host of a weekly current events show. “After two seasons of my WNYC podcast,” said the Emmy Award-winning actor, “I’ve developed a fondness for hosting a show that involved talking with smart, talented and engaging people.” Show starts its run Fridays at 10p in October.

Investigation Discovery announced an ad partnership with Glamour magazine for its Inspire a Difference campaign encouraging national dialogue about victims’ rights. “Inspire a Difference is a big, bold swing for us at ID,” Henry Schleiff, Group President, ID, Destination America and Military Channel tells Cynopsis. “To help us launch the campaign on a national level, we looked for a like-minded media partner to help us reach a new, younger audience that is similarly active and engaged.”

Tapping into an increase in wellness awareness, Fox News Channel debuts weekly series A Healthy You & Carol Alt. The supermodel, who has written books on healthy eating and lectured on nutrition, will interview health pros and celebs. Show debuts Saturday, September 7 at 4p.

College net MTVu, broadcast on over 750 campuses, will start its fall season with a Tuesday, September 10 “Convocation Address” from SNL alum Andy Samberg. Appearing in front of MTVu’s 9 million students can only help Samberg’s new Fox sitcom, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which launches a week later at 8:30p.

Time Warner Cable announced it’s now offering out-of-home access to AMC shows, including Breaking Bad, through its authenticated app for PC browsers, iOS and Android devices. TWC started offering out-of-home access to VOD content in mid-April.

Things are looking up for women in primetime TV but they can still see that glass ceiling, according a new study. The 16th annual report from the Center for the Study of Women in Television and Film said women had 43 percent of the speaking roles in the measured period, the most since 2007-2008, but held just 28 percent of the positions behind the scenes.
HBO drama True Detective debuts in January 2014. The eight-ep series starring Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey focuses on the hunt for a serial killer.

CBS MoneyWatch anchor Ashley Risk Morrison announced on Facebook Wednesday that she quit her job. “They want to start doing Moneywatch from the NYSE in the mornings beginning next week and I just couldn’t take the additional 1.5-2 hour commute,” she explained.

Hub is once again capitalizing on kid-friendly holiday Halloween to draw its target demo. After its first-ever Halloween Bash on Saturday, October 26 at 8p, featuring a nationwide costume competition, the net is airing a special ep to launch new series Spooksville at 10p.

The Better Show returns for season seven with a face familiar to All My Children fans. Two-time Daytime Emmy winner Rebecca Budig will co-host the syndicated lifestyle series. Kieran Clarke, EVP and GM of Meredith Video Studios tells Cynopsis, “There’s no more loyal viewer than a daytime soap viewer,” says Clarke. Premiere date is Monday, September 9.

Halloween Wars comes back for season three on Food Network, with five teams intent on creating the most impressive Halloween-themed displays out of pumpkin, cake and sugar. First of four eps debuts Sunday, October 6 at 9p.

Animal Planet has renewed My Cat From Hell, about conflicts between felines and their frustrated owners, for season five. The first of sixteen new eps, from Eyeworks USA, will premiere in spring 2014.

Alyssa Milano (Mistresses) will host season three of Lifetime‘s Project Runway All Stars, replacing Carolyn Murphy. The reality competition, from The Weinstein Company and Bunim/Muray Productions, premieres Thursday, October 24 at 9p, promising the largest prize package yet.

PBS music series Austin City Limits returns for its 39th season with Latin legend Juanes, and rising stars Jesse & Joy. The season, which will feature acts as varied as Vampire Weekend and Emmylou Harris, premieres Saturday, October 5.

Networks (both Cable & Broadcast) are faced with eroding ratings and ad dollars shifting from TV to Digital. That’s why Cynopsis is presenting a conference on what networks are doing  and what they need to do more of  to aggressively evolve to compete, and profit in this shifting landscape.
