At the base of today’s edition are several 9/11 Anniversary specials scheduled between today thru September 11.
In a statement released yesterday, Starz Entertainment President/CEO Chris Albrecht said the company will sever its distribution deal with Netflix for streaming video online when their agreement expires on February 28, 2012. Albrecht further explained in his statement, “This decision is a result of our strategy to protect the premium nature of our brand by preserving the appropriate pricing and packaging of our exclusive and highly valuable content. With our current studio rights and growing original programming presence, the network is in an excellent position to evaluate new opportunities and expand its overall business.”
Univision Network’s fall primetime lineup was released:

Univision also announced the last three celebrities to join the season two cast of its reality dance competition series Mira Quien Baila! are Christian Zuarez, Priscila Angel and Geraldine Bazan.
When AMC’s original series The Walking Dead debuts its second run, the season will launch with a 90-minute premiere episode on October 16 at 9p which opens the network’s annual two-week Fearfest. Six one-hour episodes of The Walking Dead will air in the following weeks after the October 16 premiere. The final six episodes will then return to AMC’s schedule starting February 12 at 9p. The 90-minute premiere episode will additionally air worldwide on all Fox International Channels during the week of October 17-23.
A third season of The Big C was approved by Showtime with ten new episodes commencing production early next year. The comedy series starring Laura Linney is currently in its second season which concludes September 26. Season three will open in second quarter 2012. The Big C is produced by Sony Pictures Television.
Season two of Extreme Couponing is back on TLC starting September 28 at 10p with 12 all-new episodes. TLC will air a sneak preview of the new season on September 12 at 10p following the series finale of Kate Plus 8 at 9p. Sharp Entertainment produces the series which averaged 1.9 million total viewers for its first season.
With school back on for most students nationwide, MTV premieres a new half-hour game show series, The Substitute starting September 12 at 430p. In each episode, unsuspecting students discover their substitute teacher really is not a substitute and instead of normal class they will be competing in a series of trivia and interactive challenges for the chance to win a cash prize of $5,000. The show will air weekdays at 430p hosted by comedian Jon Gabrus.
This holiday weekend, ABC is behind a stunt to promote its new drama series Revenge which is set in the Hamptons. Today and on Saturday, ABC will offer New Yorkers waiting to board Hampton Jitney buses a printed script of the first episode of Revenge plus a Revenge beach towel for their Hampton weekend. Revenge debuts September 21 at 10p on ABC.

AMC expands its programming slate by giving a nod to two new unscripted reality projects:
- Secret Stash (wt) is a one-hour series from Kevin Smith, Charlie Corwin’s Original Media and Elyse Seiden set inside the world of a local comic book store, Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash. The series will have six episodes and a first quarter 2012 debut is planned.
- JJK Security (wt) is a workplace dramedy from Ken Druckerman, Banks Tarver and Left/Right. The plot centers on a group of quirky employees who work at a small family-owned private security company in rural Georgia. Season one will have eight half-hour episodes and a third quarter 2012 premiere is scheduled.
Darlene Hunt, writer/creator on Showtime’s The Big C, sold a comedy script to NBC based on the book Bad Dog by Martin Kihn. Bad Dog is about Marty, a functioning alcoholic and TV writer-turned-management consultant whose marriage depends on his ability to control his dog Hola. Neal Moritz and Vivian Cannon will produce the project from Sony Pictures Television.
FX’s American Horror Story cast Teddy Sears in a recurring role as Pat, Chad’s (Zachary Quinto) partner and co-owner of the haunted home that is the centerpiece of the plot from Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.
Just a day after HBO approved the boxing drama pilot Da Brick from Spike Lee and John Ridley, the premium network cast John Boyega to play the lead, Donnie; Milauna Jemai to play Lynette, Donnie’s mother; Julito McCullum to play Kevin, Donnie’s best friend; and Kamahl Naiqui Palmer as Malik, the moral center of Donnie’s tight group of friends.
Daytime syndicated series The Doctors welcomes psychologist and author Dr. Wendy Walsh as a new co-host beginning September 12 when the fourth season premieres. The Doctors is produced by Stage 29 Productions and distributed by CBS Television Distribution.

Wednesday A18-49 Analysis: CBS won Wednesday with a 2.0/6 among A18-49, according to final national ratings from Nielsen. At 8p, CBS took control with Big Brother at 3.3/11 and Univision’s Teresa was next at 1.8/6. It was NBC’s turn to shine during 9p with America’s Got Talent at 2.6/7 and Univision remained in second place with La Fuerza del Destino at 2.3/6. Competition was tight at 10p though Univision prevailed with La Rosa de Guadalupe at 1.5/4 while ABC’s Primetime Nightline: My (Extra) Ordinary Family and NBC’s encore of Law & Order: SVU tied for #2 at 1.4/4 each.

London-based international distributor DCD Rights named Michael Jackson as Senior Sales Executive and has elevated Rick Barker to Head/Sales. Bruce Feldman, a veteran journalist and New York Times author was tapped by CBS to cover college football. Previously, Bruce was with ESPN for 17 years. Now at CBS, he will write for CBSSports.com and will report college football for all CBS platforms.
