TNT does business again with Major Crimes, renewing its hit show via an order for 15 new episodes from Warner Bros. Television to run next summer. The show, starring Mary McDonnell, airs Mondays at 9p on TNT and the first season is slated to wrap mid-October. TNT said the show averages nearly 7 million viewers and has been one of cable’s top three new dramas in adults 18 to 49 with 1.6 million viewers and 25 to 54 with 2.1 million viewers.
Lifetime selects its designers from past Project Runways for the second season of Project Runway All Stars, set to premiere October 25 at 9p. Supermodel Carolyn Murphy hosts and designers include: Wendy Pepper (Season One, Second Runner-Up), Andrae Gonzalo (Season Two), Kayne Gillaspie (Season Three), Uli Herzner (Season Three, First Runner-up), Suede (Season Five), Althea Harper (Season Six, First Runner-up), Emilio Sosa (Season Seven, First Runner-up), Peach Carr (Season Eight), Casanova (Season Eight), Ivy Higa (Season Eight), Anthony Ryan Auld (Season Nine), Laura Kathleen (Season Nine), and Joshua McKinley (Season Nine, First Runner-up). Celebrity guest judges this season include Katie Holmes, Stacy Keibler, Liv Tyler and others.
MTV2 picks up a third season of Guy Code, slotting it to begin again in January 2013. The renewal comes on the heels of the finale of the show’s second season earlier this week. Guy Code is the network’s highest-rated and most watched original series ever, MTV2 said.
CW gets closer to Nielsen via a deal to integrate Nielsen Online Campaign Ratings into its digital advertising inventory starting this season. The partnership brings an online GRP into CW’s online video, and could prove a boon to the use of GRPs not just in TV but in digital advertising too. CW is the first TV network to commit to use Nielsen’s Online Campaign Ratings.
The nation’s 8th largest cable operator Mediacom will integrate Tivo into the video offerings of its set-top boxes in early 2013.
Food Network and sister channel Cooking Channel turn to Sandra Lee for two new series. She’ll helm Sandra’s Restaurant Remakes debuting October 14 at 10a on Food Network and Sandra Lee’s Taverns, Lounges, & Clubs premiering October 17 at 10:30p on Cooking Channel.
On the heels of its Emmy wins for best drama, and the top drama acting nods for Homeland, Showtime has started its tailgate tour to promote the new seasons of Dexter and Homeland that begin on September 30. For the marketing push, two Showtime trucks are touring the country and stopping at college campuses to give away show-related goodies, snow cones and more at college football games for the next two weeks.
TV Guide Network schedules the premiere of the second season of Rove LA for October 6 at midnight. The one-hour comedy talk show is hosted by Rove McManus and will feature Russell Brand, Adam Lambert and Kristen Schaal as the first guests this season.
ION plans a debut of WWE Main Event October 3 at 8p with a taped event from the night before.
Hallmark taps October 1 at 10a as the premiere for its new how-to show Home & Family.

TV Land aims to air a potential Kirstie Alley sitcom. The network ordered a cast-contingent presentation of the script Giant Baby starring the sitcom vet. The show is helmed by Marco Pennette, showrunner for Ugly Betty and Samantha Who. Alley plays a Broadway star whose adopted son returns to reunite with his birth mom.
Discovery-owned Destination America gives the go-ahead to a bacon-centric series United States of Bacon, based on an episode from its summer three-parter United States of Food. The bacon episode fared well for the network, so it’s given the greenlight to turn the special into a 12-episode series with host and chef Todd Fisher hunting out bacon creations across the country. The show is slated to premiere in December.
International film sales and distributor Sierra/Affinity and TV distributor Engine Entertainment link up to form Sierra/Engine Television. The new venture will produce and distribute its own content and represent programs from third party programming providers, such as Georgeville Television.
Discovery Networks Western Europe plans to produce an adventure series covering a group of explorers who attempt to recreate polar explorer Ernest Shackleton’s journey across the Southern Ocean surrounding Antarctica. Dubbed Endurance in the Wake of Shackleton, the show is slated to run on Discovery Channel in Western Europe in the third quarter of 2013.
