A number of development and script deals made by the broadcast networks:
- Comedian Martin Lawrence finalized a talent agreement with CBS and CBS Television Studios where a show will be developed specifically for him, reports Variety.
- FOX picked up a script titled Metropolitan about three sets of detectives working in Washington, D.C., per Variety. The project is from Doug Liman’s Hypnotic company and is being produced by Universal Cable Productions. Jason Tracey is writing the script and executive producing with Liman and David Bartis.
- Author A.M. Homes sold an untitled script to CBS, per Variety. The script will be produced by CBS Television Studios and is a medical drama about a female military veteran. Homes penned the pilot and will be the executive producer along with Carl Beverly and Sarah Timberman.
- John Wells Productions sold a one-hour drama project to NBC centered on inmates in a women’s prison titled Bad Girls, cites THR. The plot is based on a UK series by the same name which was created by Maureen Chadwick and Ann McManus and co-devised by Eileen Gallagher. For the US version, Nancy Pimental (Shameless) is on board to write and serve as executive producer. Warner Bros. Television, John Wells Productions and Shed Media are all producing.
- A small screen adaptation of the sci-fi film Source Code was picked up by CBS from Mark Gordon Company that has an overall deal with ABC Studios, per THR. CBS okayed the project with a hefty penalty for the action/procedural about three former federal agents who are involved in a top secret program. Gordon will produce the drama with Vendome Pictures’ Philippe Rousselet as consulting producer; Steve Maeda is writing.
New projects at a couple of cable networks:
- ABC Family is ready to hand a pilot order for Strut from writer Amy Sherman-Palladino (Gilmore Girls), reports Variety. The pilot is about a Las Vegas showgirl who unwittingly marries a Texan and becomes a drill team instructor for a group of misfits at a local high school. Last year, ABC Family gave the same project a cast-contingent order though was unable to cast it. Sherman-Palladino was brought on board to refresh the project and she will serve as executive producer along with Anna Mastro, Charlie Stratton and Norman Buckley. In addition, ABC Family okayed an action drama pilot Intercept about college students who solve crimes.
- OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network ordered six episodes of Secret Talent Scout, per THR. The series is about a group of talent scouts who go undercover to find fresh talent across the US. Zodiak USA created and developed the format. Zodiak’s CCO Natalka Znak and EVP/Current Claire O’Donohoe are the executive producers in addition to Michael Shevloff.
