Cynopsis: Kids!

9/14/07

Good morning. It’s Friday, September 14, 2007, and this is your first early morning briefing.

Paddington Bear comes to life in a new live-action feature film from Warner Bros.  Based on the classic Paddington Bear books by creator/author Michael Bond, with illustrations by Peggy Fortnum, the first of which was published in 1958, the Paddington Bear movie will be produced by David Heyman (producer of the Harry Potter movies), through his company Heyday Films.  Hamish McColl will adapt the story for the big screen.  UK-based VP/Production, Ollie Madden will oversee the project with LA-based EVP/Production, Kevin McCormick. Rosie Alison will supervise for Heyday Films.

Disney Channel has cast a gaggle of celebrities to lend their voices in recurring and special guest roles in its new animated series Phineas and Ferb, according to the Hollywood Reporter.  Joining the regular voice-over cast that includes Ashley Tisdale, Caroline Rhea and Kelly Hu, in recurring parts will be Malcolm McDowell, Allison Janney, John O’Hurley, Jane Carr and Barry Bostwick.  Guest voice-overs will be provided by, Sandra Oh, Steve Zahn, Billy ray Cyrus, French Stewart, Timmy Curry, Evander Holyfield and the pop and daughter team of Joel and Jennifer Grey.  The series had a sneak peek earlier this summer, which is set to repeat on Disney Channel September 28.  The series will launch in January 2008.

MORE KIDS STUFF

The Sorpresa! network has acquired the US rights to the popular Mexican kid’s game show, El Reto Burundis, and its two animated movies Enredos y Maranas and Navidad con Angel from BouncyNet Inc.  Under the deal Sorpresa has the exclusive US broadcast rights to the series and movies, which it will air in the afternoons beginning this October 2007.  Targeted to K6-12, El Reto Burundis features a mix of animated characters and real people.  Sorpresa! will distribute the BouncyNet content digitally via sorpresatv.com.

FremantleMedia Enterprises inked sales to Mediacorp channels in Singapore.  Mediacorp TV5, Channel News Asia, and Mediacorp TV12 have picked up 320+ programming hours.  Mediacorp 5 acquired a package of shows that includes American Idol Season 7, How Clean is Your House, The Martha Stewart Show, Jamie’s Kitchen Australia, and Jamie Oliver: Australian Diary.  Channel News Asia bought season one of Iconoclasts and Secrets of the Great Plague.  Mediacorp TV12 took Planet Cook, Nigel Marven’s Rhino Adventures, Nigel Marven’s Ugly Animals, and Penguin Adventures with Nigel Marven.

4Kids Entertainment Home Video, in association with Funimation Entertainment, will release Season One, Part Two of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on DVD on September 2007.  The DVD includes the final 14 episodes from season one.

MARKETING/LICENSING

Jakks Pacific has inked a new licensing deal with Chorion Silver Lining to develop and market a line of consumer products based on the Mr. Men and Little Miss publishing brand.  Targeted to tweens, Jakks’ Mr. Men and Little Miss products will include collectible vinyl figures, room decor, make-your-own jewelry kits, electronics accessories (e.g. cell phone charms, mp3 cases) among others.  The line will debut nationwide in 2008.

American Greetings enters into a licensing partnership with Comedy Central for a line of humor-based greeting cards.  The initial product launch includes a line of seven South Park birthday and anytime cards.  The deal also includes licenses for Comedy Central’s shows Reno 911!, The Sarah Silverman Program, Mind of Mencia and Lil’ Bush.  The new South Park cards are available at Target stores.  Cards featuring signature “South Park” sound bytes are set to debut at select retailers in January 2008.
