In the carriage dispute between Fox Networks Group and DirecTV, yesterday DirecTV sent a letter to the FCC saying the News Corp.-owned Fox Networks Group has been “abusing the public trust” with advertising they contend is misleading.  DirecTV also said in its letter sent to FCC Bureau Chief Bill Lake that Fox was negotiating in bad faith.  The current Fox Cable Networks deal expires November 1 though the retransmission deal for Fox-owned stations does not expire until the end of the year.

A new Military Channel series examines the history of modern warfare when Triggers: Weapons That Changed the World premieres November 30 at 10p.  Hosted by former Army Ranger and Air Force Pararescueman Will Willis, the series combines history, science, technology and demonstrations documenting the evolution of firearms and how each changed the scope of combat warfare.  In each episode, Willis will be joined by other historical and technical experts to test vintage firearms and see what made each unique.  MorningStar Entertainment produces the series for Military Channel.

In early December, Sundance Channel debuts a new half-hour interview series, The Mortified Sessions which reveals portions of a celebrity’s diary or an unsent love letter from their adolescent years.  The series’ host David Nadelberg goes one-on-one with celebrities such as Ed Helms, Jennifer Grey, Eric Stonestreet, Mo’Nique and more as they together sift through memories evoking laughter and sometimes mortifying feelings of the past. RelativityREAL produces The Mortified Sessions for Sundance Channel which launches on December 5 at 8p.

CBS tagged Kaley Cuoco, star of its sitcom The Big Bang Theory to host the 2012 People’s Choice Awards, the show’s 38th edition, on January 11.  The awards show has been hosted for the past five years by Queen Latifah.

This holiday season, Hallmark Channel introduces a new Christmas TV ratings system coinciding with the launch of the network’s annual Countdown to Christmas campaign encompassing more than a dozen Hallmark Original holiday movies.  The Christmas TV ratings include S for Santa; T for Christmas Tree; J for Joy; F for Family Meal; G for Gathering; P for Presents; and C for Caring.  The new Christmas TV ratings system will be included in customized feature film opens for all new Hallmark Channel Original Movies and Specials.  Hallmark Channel’s Countdown to Christmas launches November 12 at 8p with the Hallmark Channel Original Movie, Lucky Christmas which received T, C and F ratings.

Heads up!  Coming to you on December 1st the first every Cynopsis Media Holiday Programming Guide, listing all the great network holiday programming coming up during the month of December 2011.  We’ll include one-time-only specials as well as special holiday episodes of regular series.  We don’t want to leave anyone out, so help us help you and send us your network holiday listings, to me at [email protected].  And thanks!

~ PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT ~

Making a comeback on television next summer, Charlie Sheen will star in the new sitcom, Anger Management acquired by FX that is loosely based on the 2003 hit comedy film of the same name starring Adam Sandler from Joe Roth’s Revolution Studios.  FX ordered 10 episodes of Anger Management from Debmar-Mercury owned by Lionsgate.  Production on the sitcom begins early next year. Bruce Helford is on board as writer, executive producer and showrunner.  Anger Management will be produced by Lionsgate Television, headed by Television Group President Kevin Beggs and COO Sandra Sterm; Roth and Revolution Studios’ Vince Totino;  Sheen manager Mark Burg’s production company, Evolution Management; and Ramon Estevez and Estevez Sheen Productions.  If Anger Management proves successful, FX will pick up 90 additional episodes under a similar syndication model Debmar-Mercury created for Tyler Perry’s sitcoms and others.  Anger Management will air exclusively on FX until the off-network episodes begin airing in broadcast syndication in fall 2014.

The comedy script, Ben Fox Is My Manny was picked up by FOX from creator Dana Fox.  The network purchased the single-camera pilot from 20th Century Fox with penalty attached.  The project is about a single mom’s slacker brother who moves in to help her raise her baby.  Fox will be an executive producer with Peter Chernin and Katherine Pope.

Discovery Networks International (DNI) is teaming with Nutopia to produce the five-hour new docu-series How We Invented the World.  The series will use updated filming techniques, cinematic CGI and dramatic reenactments to showcase iconic inventions and breakthroughs of the modern age such as black boxes on airplanes to cell phones plus the world of future inventions.  Filming will happen worldwide using a new global creative model and will be adapted and customized for each of Discovery’s top territories including London, New York, Sydney and Warsaw among others.  How We Invented the World is slated to premiere next year on Discovery Channel worldwide in 210 countries reaching 400 million households.

Andrea Roth, last seen on the FX series Rescue Me, is joining The CW’s Ringer as Catherine, the ex-wife of Siobhan’s husband Andrew Martin and the mother of Juliet who is also described as a trouble-making stepmother.

Casting Call: AllScreen Entertainment is looking for people who think their business should be featured in a reality/documentary network TV series.  If you own a small business, in a small town or in an urban setting, that has colorful employees or a funny office environment, consider applying.  AllScreen invites those interested to submit a short video via private YouTube links. For details and an introductory video, please visit: www.smallbizontv.com.  Selected finalists will be notified in early 2012 and invited to collaborate with AllScreen to develop the show pitch which will be presented to networks in Canada and worldwide.
