~ IN THE NEWS ~

NBC is bringing back the American Comedy Awards, broadcast by ABC from 1987-2000, and Comedy Central in 2001. The reboot will be produced by Don Mischer Productions, to air in May 2014.

Arrested Development actors will reunite for an appearance on Bravo‘s Inside the Actors Studio. Host James Lipton – who appeared on Arrested as Warden Gentiles – will interview six cast members and creator Mitch Hurwitz for a show airing Thursday, November 7 at 8p.

Two new categories have been added to the Daytime Emmys: Entertainment News, for programs like Extra which haven’t had a category to call their own, and one for Outstanding New Approaches to Drama Series, for soaps with fewer than 35 original episodes.

USA‘s Suits has been renewed for a 16-episode season four. The law drama ranked among the top five series in the A18-49 demo in the third quarter; the show’s creator and exec producer, Aaron Korsh, has signed an overall deal with Suits studio Universal Cable Productions to develop new shows. The final six eps of the show’s third season will air in early 2014, after the Olympics.

TNT has ordered eight episodes of reality series Wake Up Call. The Electus production features Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson motivating people facing harsh situations. TNT and TBS SVP, Unscripted Development David Eilenberg said the project is a “natural successor” to Johnson reality competition The Hero, which wrapped on TNT in August.

MTV is splitting the weekend with a “Brofest” marathon on Saturday, featuring guy-centric programming like Ridiculousness and True Life Presents: My Dad Is a Bro, and a “Girl Code” marathon Sunday, with season one of the series airing from 12p-9p. Season two of Girl Code premieres Wednesday, October 30 at 10p.

OWN presents Oprah’s Next Chapter: Gay Hollywood on Sunday, October 27 at 9p, followed by documentary Bridegroom at 10p. Gay Hollywood features actors sharing their experiences being gay; Bridegroom documents the problems faced by a man without the legal protections of marriage who lost his partner.

Documentary series Rebel Music will debut on MTV‘s 24-hour college channel mtvU on Monday, November 18 at 9p. The 30-minute series about young people using music and art to spark change in the world will “remind people of the power of the combination of music, art and activism,” said executive producer/activist Shepard Fairey.

~ COMING UP ~

TV One announced that News One Now, a morning news program hosted by Roland Martin analyzing politics, entertainment and sports from an African American perspective, will premiere Monday, November 4 at 9a. “When the grab for news is as competitive as it is now,” chairman Alfred Liggins tells Cynopsis, “TV One is proud to super-serve African American viewers with the information and perspective that resonates with them the most.”

Discovery is kicking off the season three premiere of Moonshiners on Monday, November 5 with a special ep at 8p featuring the ‘shiners sharing their hopes for the future and answering questions from fans. At 9p, it’s back to business, with a 500-gallon still and strawberry brandy.

Arts net Ovation is postponing the premiere of The Fashion Fund until after its re-launch in Time Warner Cable markets. Ovation was dropped from the TWC lineup at the end of 2012, but after committing to more original programming, struck a deal to return on January 1, 2014. Fashion Fund debuts Wednesday, January 22 at 10p.

One Direction and Florida Georgia Line have been added as performers at the 2013 American Music Awards. The Dick Clark Productions‘ trophy fest airs Sunday, November 24 at 8p.
